Just curious but what do you think you brew “normal” coffee with. Water.

It’s an “Americano.” The drink supposedly gets its name from American soldiers stationed in Italy. They were used to drinking a full cup of coffee rather than a tiny shot of the much stronger espresso like Italians do. they added water to their espresso until they had enough volume to fill their coffee cups.

Cappucino's, lattes, flat whites e.c.t are just dilluted espresso shots using a certain ratio of milk and froth. Using water to dillute it just gives a less intense espresso shot that is more of a larger drink. Don't knock it til you try it.

@@OneSipCoffeee half of the population just does “Café con leche” (coffee with milk) and the other half just black. Not sure how espresso is made tbh. And I know I need to be more understanding 😂 I will confess homemade cappuccino has been my choice lately.

I usually do 1-2 parts water for 1 of espresso. But for the vid I had to put way more water to fill the cup 😂 it’s mostly ice tho, so not as diluted as you might think.

It’s hot, but the ice cools it down pretty quick.

Haha it is pretty basic. you can control how much water you use, so can make it as strong or diluted as you want :)

14g of a freshly ground Columbian medium-dark roast, ground fine into my bottomless portafilter. Stir the grounds with my DWT, tap to set, and press with my tamper. Insert into the machine, setup my glass and scale beneath the portafilter. Start my timer when I start pulling the shot. I get ~31g out in 26 seconds, giving me a balanced and dense shot of espresso, just a hair over an ounce. I add that to 5oz of soft water with some ice and have myself a delicious americano that does not taste bland.

Haha tbh they’re basically the same. I think the naming ultimately comes down to which region you’re in. But officially, I believe the difference has to do with the order of when you put the water and espresso…. Soooo basically the same thing 😂 In Canada, we always referred to as Americano.

haha yea basically. in americano we simply refer to long blacks and americanos as americanos (classic americans). they're basically the same thing, only difference is the order in which you pour the water and the espresso

I’m sure Nescafé instant coffee would work! Wouldn’t have quite the same taste, but you can definitely through it in some water and ice for an easy, cool and refreshing drink!

There’s a lot of ice, so it looks like a lot of water, but it’s not a crazy amount. I personally prefer it with less water than that. But that is the recipe for a Starbucks one

It's not sweet (but you could add sweetener if you wanted to). It's a little bitter, but not nearly as much as espresso on its own. It's pretty smooth 😊

It’s an (iced) americano, so espresso + water. ‘Normal’ coffee is usually drip coffee 😊 Also depends on country / region. In Europe normal is probably espresso on its own haha.

@@Elizabeth-ladybug22 it was espresso with water, to make an americano, which is similar to regular black drip coffee (at least as we call it in North America). It definitely had more water than usual, and lots of ice, but the ice doesn’t water it down if you drink it fast. Totally understand some/many people don’t like they’re coffee this way, but yup that’s how it’s made 🤷‍♀️😅
