aardwolfweb I have a 2.5” lifted MK6 Jetta TDI on 225/70r15 Cooper AT3 4s tires and a full straight pipe, I know exactly what you mean lol. I can idle 1st gear up extremely steep banks and it’s a blast to drive.

@@Realtreecamo98 aardwolfweb is me above on a different account. I'm lifted about the same on General Grabber AT2s. I went with 205/75r15s though to keep the rotating weight down a little. Still about 8 inches of clearance under the Dieselgeek skidplate. You've got a fair bit more factory HP than I do, though I have a mild tune on it to bump my ALH up to the Euro spec of 110. Tons of fun on FS roads, and still about 40mpg. Let's see a Jeep do that! A lot of people don't get it but it's a cross between a rally car and a softroader -- it's perfect for me.

dont hold your breath on that one...in fact they will be lucky just to get home...i said in the last video that thing is a trailer queen meant for going to car shows and driving about 30-40 miles a year tops. just enough to get it on and off trailers and around the car shows...think of it as a statue that CAN move under its own power

sure is...you might be able to do it cheap for like 10 grand but it would really cost like 30 to have a good shop do it...slightly more than the car is worth unless you fill the car with dollar bills

I think FWD in this setup would be better than RWD. Plus, you'd have to re-orient the engine for a RWD conversion. They come transverse mount, which doesn't make a RWD conversion easy. Being FWD and transverse mount, it at least puts a majority of the vehicle's weight (about 2/3rds) over the drive wheels, which is a lot like the old Beetle, except in reverse. Old Beetles were RWD but also rear engined, making them rear-heavy. It gave old Beetles excellent traction as well. In other words, forget the RWD. You wouldn't be making an improvement over a front-heavy FWD setup. AWD, however, is absolutely doable. VW sold an AWD Beetle in Europe along with the related Golf/Jetta platform and here in the U.S., we got the Golf R32 for only a year and several years of Audi TT, which is also on the same platform. So, parts exist to convert them to AWD. The most challenging part is that the rear floor would have to be cut out and the floor from an AWD car welded in its place. Other than that, it's mostly bolt-on parts and a little bit of wiring for the Haldex controller. Although I think the old 01M 4 speed automatic would have to go in favor of a manual since very few automatics were sold in Europe with AWD. And here in the U.S., the only automatics that were offered with AWD on this platform were with the Audi TT and it was a different automatic than the 4 speed this Beetle has. AWD parts for the manual transmissions are much, much more plentiful. Fortunately, these aren't too difficult to convert to manual. I've done a few. The holes in the firewall for the clutch master cylinder as well as the studs to mount the clutch pedal are already there. Aside from a little bit of rewiring, it's a bolt-on affair to convert to manual on these VWs.

@@dzelpwr If you rob the drivetrain from a first gen Audi TT, the chasis are pretty similar and if i remember correctly actually use the same engines and transmissions at least in the 2WD versions so it wouldn't be much of a stretch to imagine that the AWD swap should be pretty easy as well. the first gen audi TT suspension is actually a common performance upgrade for the new beetles. which is a pretty solid indication of how similar the chasis are.
