At least five people have been killed and more than twenty injured in a bus crash near the German city of Leipzig.
Police say the double-decker vehicle was on its way to Switzerland, when it veered off the motorway and rolled onto its side. The operator FlixBus says there were 53 passengers and two drivers on board. An investigation is underway.

I took a Flixbus from Genoa to Nice, wonderful experience. Then I took one from Stuttgart to Rome, what a nightmare. One busdriver was a tiny guy and drove like a maniac. The second driver could not see properly and the other one could not rest, had to stand next to him. We were on the Autobahn when they suddenly swerved and took an offramp and went through tiny little roads. And then bam, Polizei. The first bus probably warned the drivers. Our passports were never checked at boarding. Seven people were arrested for not having passports. One passenger had drugs in his hand luggage. It took hours until the authorities let the bus go, with a different driver, and minus seven passengers, and on condition that the bus tool a different route, not through the rest of Germany. An 18 hour drive (with a broken foot) ended up in a 22 hour drive. That was hectic.

Never Flixbus again!! On route from Zagreb to Antwerp Flixbus had a flat tyre. We were stuck from early evening to early morning. The drivers were not able to fix the flat tyre. Eventually another bus arrived while waiting for another few hours.

This should not have killed people. It is mandatory to wear seat-belts on these busses, but nobody does it. I once had a driver literally drill us to quickly buckle-up in case police stop us to check for infractions. I wore the belt the entire ride, and I was the only one.

@@tidusfantasyThat is one of the reasons why single pilot operations for passenger planes are a bad idea. Passenger planes are (and should always be) flown by two pilots, while a second driver on a bus is typically in a noisy, cramped bunk, trying in vain to sleep, because they'll be taking the wheel when the first driver's work hours run out. Meaning they won't be able to intervene when the first driver loses focus.

Clear weather during the day and no precipitation indicates that the driver was probably driving too fast around a curve and hit the brakes which resulted in the bus being flipped over on its side.

I travelled with Flixbus from Berlin to Hamburg a few years ago, I was travelling in the front row upstairs... the driver nearly crashed twice. One of the times he drove straight through a red light at crossroads and realised too late, jumped on the brakes and skidded to a halt halfway through the junction. They are lethal. I have also had one other journey on a flixbus which also did not feel safe. I filed a complaint for the first journey I mentioned.

I have had several encounters with Flixbusses, and none of them was fun. More often than not they are speeding and driving recklessly. On the Autobahn, once a Flixbus closed up from behind and flashed its lights. When I refused to drive faster than allowed, it got *really* close before it overtook us, again not keeping safe side clearance. And that although the driver must have seen that we had our children in the back. Another time a Flixbus nearly ran over my wife who was riding her motorbike. I'll rather walk than give money to that company!

There was recently a Flixbus incident in Finland, filmed by a driver behind the bus, showing the bus was driving for a while in the opposite line. It could have ended in a huge disaster but luckily no traffic in that moment. The bus driver was from some Baltic country. The reckless driving was never explained by Flixbus, why and how it was possible? The autobahn tragedy sounds a bit similar

I've travelled with them many times and many times had no problems. However, I must say there are some incredibly rude and aggressive drivers. Had Drivers also that got lost and one lost a passenger. Please bring back Eurolines to do the job best.

I took the Flixbus from Munich to the Austrian Alps, no major issues either way. They are not known to have major safety issues in the US, that's the Chinatown buses in the Northeast that are notorious for that as well as cheap tickets.

I've had mixed experiences with Flix. The first time was great, little bathroom and free wifi-the second time the bathroom was locked because of an obnoxious drunk trying to smoke in the bathroom, no wifi. Fairly miserable. Nothing like this, though.

To put it in the perspective there was 2,788 traffic fatalities in 2022 in germany. That is 7.63 daily, it is less then duble of normal death rate. Out of 289,672 accidents causing personal injury buses caused 2,647 while cars 176,661 which is more than half. Statistically speaking buses are much safer form of transpiration than cars and probably this accident was also caused by a car.

Sad story, condolences for those lost. But, here’s the fact: most of the time I find these FlixBus drivers driving really aggressively and rash! My regular trips in Germany, Switzerland and in Italy especially confirms this. Never have I seen other bus drivers driving this rash! It was only a matter of time before these tragedies happen. Even here inside the cities in Northern Italy, they drive those buses like a COMPLETE HOOLIGAN. While I drive I have learnt to keep my distance from these buses, highways or within the city limits. None other buses behave this way, they are completely out of control.

Tu Simple the no human driver on board, autonomous truck driving system moved to China from the US. Systems like Guardian seeing machines use gaze and face tracking algorithms to monitor the driver and 'wake the driver up' to prevent the driver going to sleep.

We definitely should penalise Flixbus with their parasitic modus operandi. They don't employ most of their drivers, who instead work as "freelancers" but are required to put Flixbus branding on their vehicle and wear a Flixbus mandated uniform. They also impose unrealistic schedules, encouraging drivers to ignore legal work and rest times. I'll bet the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.

@@Welgeldiguniekaliasevery single company does that. Very few companies own their buses. Usually they hire from smaller companies. I have seen this on Flixbus, Arriva, Transdev, Gipsyy, Royal Express, Rede de Expressos, Alsa etc etc etc.

@@Welgeldiguniekalias Flix SE (FlixBus) owns only 1 bus. Which is not used in service. The buses and drivers are coming from 250 different bus companies. Asleep behind the wheel can be ruled out in this case. There were 2 drivers on board and they had an argument at the time the accident happened.

I checked media sources and only found Leipziger Volkszeitung who quoted a witness saying that the two drivers had been "arguing loudly", not that they had been arguing when the crash happened. They DID say, however, that the driver had been behind the wheel since 08:00 (in the morning) and the crash happened at night.

Omg. I took a bus from southern France to Barcelona. It could've been me! I am so lucky to be alive. My grandchildren will hear about my close encounter with death. I can't believe I almost died!

You would feel even luckier knowing that on last 10 months there were 4 fatal Flixbus crashes in EU which tokk 27 lives in total. In 3 of these crashes no other vehicle was involved - bus felt off a bridge in Venice Mestre, ran into road safety rail in Austria and overturned, and this one.
