@@jetcitysinatra7300 I think Busey's performance was carefully choreographed and played. Buddy Holly could keep a crowd's attention due to the novelty of himself, the songs and the genre of rock 'n' roll itself (not to mention his flawless performance). Gary Busey was performing, albeit through the lens of a director's camera, for a 1978 audience. I had the great good fortune to be instrument tech on The Buddy Holly Story in Australia (2009) promoted by great friends David And Julie White... A fabulous tour opened on 3rd of February the 59th anniversary of Buddy's death. By Peggy Sue Gerron ( sadly now deceased ) a great trooper of a Lady, and a wonderful friend. Scott Cameron played a stunningly lookalike BUDDY, and absolutely took the part for his own!! Great days. This version was fabulous too, a fitting tribute to the great man..... Rave on!!

As a big Buddy Holly fan. Gary Busey gave the best performance by far of any who have tried since, and the best tribute, to such an icon. And to be singing live in his performances, shows his real talent. I watched the film on its first release, and never tire of watching it still. I love listening to his takes on all the Buddy Holly songs, but two that stand out for me personally are Maybe Baby and True Love Ways. 🎶🎵🎸

@@roknroller The Sam Cooke tour is fiction, made up for the movie, just like the Buddy is the genius producer of the songs. Buddy was great, a part of the great American songbook. But the movie is highly fictionalized, was disliked by the Holley family (that was the actual spelling of Buddy’s last name) and the Crickets. Also I believe someone added additional guitar to the songs on the soundtrack. Good movie. Not history.

My mother sang at the Apollo way before any of us watching this video we're alive, she was white, actually took first place, second place went to this guy Frank who eventually became a man by the name of Frankie Laine. She passed away in 2017 at 102 years old, so could imagine how long ago that was. Great video by the way! It's funny how the men in the audience mostly all wore suits back then. I was just a kid back then but I remember that. Pretty cool. Ain't It Funny, How Time Slips Away.

The , the morning of February 4, we heard of the plane crash & just knew that was our day of infamy. My bros & sisters & cousins & school friends grieved for months. And gradually there were others appearing on Ed Sullivan that started the momentum again. But, nobody ever replaced Buddy, The Big Bopper & Richie Valance

I've read all the comments and totally agree ... that as a nation... we "are" going backwards to a time when blacks and whites are divided again. What I am curious about is ... why this year 2020? Why is this year that's not even over yet ... any different that the years before. Is it just because it's an election year? I do not have an answer... but as for myself... I have never looked at the color of a person's skin as a negative. We are all human beings and we are all in the same situation with the Pandemic. Well, I'm going to continue my relationships with my black and Hispanic friends as I always have. I care about them as much as I do my family!

So tragic he was lost to the music world @ 23 such an early age, along with the Big Bopper, Ricky Vallance & others in that awful plane crash. The world lost a genius that fateful night. His music lives on, even the Beatles inspired by him.
