I was born and raised in Odawara, which is close to Atami, 25min-ride by a local train. Atami is a next stop from Odawara by Shinkansen bullet train. My parents and neighbors who were engaged in rice farming used to go on a trip to Atami with their family members almost every year when the rice harvest was over. The purpose of the trip is to provide the farmers with a chance to get comfort and relaxing time. The comfort trip to Atami continued till 1954 or so. Shinkansen line opened and started its service 10 years later in 1964. This video brought back memories of the time that I as a kid spent with my parents and the neighbors in Atami 68 years ago.

Atami really has a "Showa" air to it. Also my first time ever hearing of this city was from watching Shin Mazinger Z.

A a Gen Xer I found Japan to be oddly nostalgic. Shopping malls still thrive there. Book stores are everywhere. I love the Pike Place Market in Seattle and every shopping street in Japan scratched that itch. I wish I knew the language better.

Atami is so rich of things to see! Even though this walk is kind of long already for a city this size, there's so much more to it! The castle (which is not an original one, but still), beautifully situated at the coast or the Kinomiya-Jinja shrine at Kinomiya station, with beautiful torii paths, a bamboo forest and an absolutely MASSIVE tree are just some of them. I also really recommend visiting the city's centre at night. You have this sea-breeze and the Ginza district. Lovely. Hope a tragedy like the landslide earlier this year won't happen and the beautiful people can live their lives in peace!

You know a lot about Atami! Did you live here?!?! The landslide was such a tragedy. They found it a man-made disaster and the big lawsuit is going on now.
@FlexxenRandomPlaces2 жыл бұрын
@@VSV_Japan I haven't lived there, but I've stayed 2 nights in an Airbnb in 2019! Although I haven't visited the landslide site, it felt so much closer to me than other natural disasters. I actually was emotionally captured by it!

Oh wow! It has totally changed! When I visited 15 or so years ago the station and immediate vicinity were .... shabby. Now it looks newer! Even a little away from the station some areas look better. Maybe time for a return trip! .... once Japan reopens of course...

Had to watch your videos at night better on sound bar to . At the beginning of the train station I said no Mc D’S coming out ? But it’s different at each station in 🇯🇵 when you go out even when you go into them as well. As well I saw you showed Homes 🏡 for sale to. But remember Atami do get earthquakes now and then even a. mudslide but that was caused by something else. Seems like the people are nice there to. If you do a Night walk start at the west side of shore line area . Time 10:05-9 saw a 90’s. Porche convertible as as a black one not sure what make. 👍🇯🇵📸
