I truly consider Ataturk to have been one of the most humanitarian leaders in global history. The political manoeuvers which he introduced to create a state of egalitarian society and the diplomatic negotiations with other nations, were tantamount to creating a culture which served as a model for national and international collaborative development. All of this is especially a highlight in the current state of international affairs! The documentary summed it up perfectly during the final few minutes, in the assessment of Ataturk's achievements.

I read about him in my World History class in high school back in the 1970s, and came to admire him greatly. As a military and political tactician, he was brilliant. Metaphysically, he was a Master, who "looked out at the world from both corners of his eyes." He did not shroud himself in austere black clothes and clutch the 7th century medieval tunnel vision like it was some treasure in a fortified safe. He knew that Salafism, Wahabism, and any other kind of radical religious extremism from the region, would serve only to ensure that while the rest of the world knew how to fly airplanes, its adherents would not. To this day, I believe that he is the only sane head of state to have emerged from the entire Levant.

It is impossible to truly appreciate what Ataturk accomplished if one does not seriously study and and fully understand the history of the Ottoman Empire. By the standards of the time Ottoman Empire was not so different or bad as compared to its contemporary states in the period between 14th to 16th centuries. Afterwards it became a country of lawlessness, violence, intrigue, civil wars, peasant uprisings, religious fanaticism, bloody Janissary revolts, corruption, economic, cultural and technological backwardness. İt stood aloof to the reinvigorating forces of the Renaissance, religious enlightenment and the miracles of the Industrial Revolution. It managed to remain alive, albeit barely and miserably, until the end of the First World War only because of competions among European nations which did not agree as to how to plunder the estate of the dying Sick Man. As a great soldier Ataturk first militarily saved Anatolia. Then built Turkey as a member of the contemporary world on the basis of the rules/norms and practices of that world, which meant to reverse and reject the archaic/mindset of the Ottomans. If present day Turkey is able to withstand Erdogan's efforts and plans to turn the tide, it is because the foundation that Atatürk laid down is solid.

@Yusuf Isa Mr Yusuf Isa, it would be a great service to history if you could kindly explain your reasons for labelling my commentary as "utter bullshit". From the language you use I can easily say what kind of person you are, your background, the people you hang with etc....I will not say it now and wait for your response. If you have difficulty in expressing yourself effectvely enough in English you can respond in Turkish. @Yusuf Isa I really became anxcious and concerned whether your brain works properlly and normally.. ..And, whether you have ever read any reliable book about Ottoman history. What a stupid and self- accusatory sentence that you use: "Turkey under Ottoman/Islamic rule was much more wealthier and literate." True, it was wealthier until the end of the 16th century. Why? Because it invaded and stole, looted, robbed the riches of the Balkan countries and Eastern europe. During those centuries, the Crimean Khanate was linked with the Ottoman Empire and its main "economic activity" was looting, stealing and taking prisoners from Ukraine, Poland and Latvia. Prisoners taken from these countries were sold at slave markets of Istanbul. But, this unconsionable, immoral, inhuman method of economic enrichment came to an end when the Western countries got the upper hand by using science, logic, reason in every sphere of life. Thus, from the 16th century onwards Ottomans lost the only means of terrorising other peoples, i.e. murder, the sword, slavery etc. Now the funniest part...This Yusuf İsa guy claims that during the Ottoman period the people were more literate. (Senin çook muhtemelen acur tipi bir vatandaşımız olduğundan eminim...Yeme bizi...) Let alone the men in the street, in the highest levels of the civil adminisration as well as of the armed forces, the Pashas ( a title used for high civilian and military personnel) and many others under them were ILLITERATE. During the 1900's the estimated number of literate people was 10 per cent. Mr Yusuf İsa, I hope that I have made a dent in your brain. Good bye...

@Yusuf Isa I am not sure whether you are just and simply ignorant, or also stupid. In the first case you you have a chance....Read, read, learn learn, learn from reputable sources. . This may perhaps helps. In the second case...I can't think of a remedy, a medical procedure... Wait...I just remembered...Since you said you live by İslamic rules/traditions , I am sure there are many traders in religion , sorcerers i.e. Islamic hodjas, fortune tellers and the like around you. (Such people make lots of money in Turkey.) One of them may write couple of lines from your holy book on a piece of paper and you swallow it...Wow!. Did you establish a brand new productive country from the ashes of an utterly fallen Empire ? Did you give equal rights to women in an era where almost no other country give ? Did you fight at any fronts in any wars except pathetically in comment sections of social media applications ? Did you make it compulsory for women to go to school to get educated in a period where again almost no other country did ? Did you make bold moves on education system which enabled for literacy levels to skyrocket ? I can go on and on but I won't because I know I can't win a fight against an ignorant person

I am a Bangladeshi 🇧🇩 & also half Turkish 🇹🇷 😅, and I have a huge respect and admiration for Kemal Atatürk. A lot of Bangladeshis I know love him. Bangladeshis have a huge respect for Turkey as well. Kemal Atatürk was one of the best leaders of 20th century. Well he was undoubtedly better than most leaders we have today. I personally love Turkey as much as I love Bangladesh, as it's my fatherland, and Kemal Atatürk. We have schools, roads, avenues etc in Bangladesh 🇧🇩 dedicated to him. I wish my motherland Bangladesh gets a leader like Kemal Atatürk. May Atatürk rest in peace 🙏 ! Also Ataturk had to join to war from 1912 to 1922... not 2 years or 3 years... Napoleon was a great military strategist. But unfortunality he lost. Ataturk didnt lose. And did very strong reforms. JD it is obvious that you are a Muslim still willing to live in the Middle ages of your self- proclaimed prophet Mr. Muhammed Mustafa.... My friend wake up and come to your senses . Do not deceive yourself. The Western World, the world that uses logic, reason, science, in short the magnificent human BRAIN that THE NATURE gave us produced thousands of wonderful things for mankind...(Also, unfortunately weapons of mass destruction and suffering.) As of this minute we can say that they what they produced are mostly good things...Things that can be used for the benefit all human beings in the hands of good, capable, honest leaders. We are in the 21st century. Couple of years ago, the space telescope Hubble found millions of galaxies in the universe, each containing billions of stars...Hence, our world in this mind boggling universe is nothing but a dust that the most powerful electron microscope is unable to detect...It is therefore incredibly stupid , misleading, meaningless and a huge waste of time as well as energy to explain life on earth on the basis of religions which all are man made tales, stories.

It was an empire means multiethnical and multicultural which ruled under monarchy. After WWI, Atatürk could create a nation state recognized by all world from Ottoman Empire's last pieces with fighting against world's superpowers. I think it deserves respect.
