Actually, this is an opportunity to be involved in a Legendary Vintage Guitar Restoration that happily results in a Documentary film, a Great Guitar builder doing a State-of-the Art Restoration, some lucky great guitar player getting their hands on the modern equivalent of a Stradivarius, and the lucky owners receiving a handsome sum of money to make their Retirement Years Golden ones. You are a good man. Alot of dealers would have seen this as an opportunity to get over on the owner in a really bad way. It’s good to see there’s still good people out there and that not all dealers are trying to get over on you. I have bought alot of les pauls over the years but I don’t come across the fabled closet burst where the owner has no idea what they have. Not to mention being double zeroed and uncirculated. It makes an amazing story that in the long run will probably add more value to the guitar. I would love to play it once it’s done! The wood grain is crazy looking on this one. I love the look of it. Not a fan of the bigby though but it is what it is.

Interesting story, makes you wonder how many more like this are just stashed away and largely forgotten about! I'm personally in the camp of just giving it a good clean up, maybe fix up the issue around the bridge/tailpiece where the tape is but other than that I would try to end up with a clean and fully functional version of what's in front of you. Such a lovely top on that and it's obviously still spent a lot of time outside of its case judging by the pickguard fading. He did not said that about pickups we’ll see if they will show us cotrol cavity, my guess is guess .. but certainly it is in good condition - few hours of work and you can rate condition 8,5/10. Worth at least 180k as is now even if the pafs are rewound but I surely doubt that. Cmon it does not even have the buckle rash and even the checking of nitro it is not visible. Very good condition.

I say restore it minimally. Bring it back to factory spec with as little modification as possible. Dowel and refill the broken bridge posts. Source an original tailpiece. Rewire as much as you can with vintage spec/correct wiring. Build an accurate repro pickguard. Re-fret it only if necessary or if it already has been re-fretted. The pots and pickups can be carefully brought back to life. It really does not need very much to bring it to good health.

Follow up vids on the steps taken to restore a beautiful piece like this would be very interesting. Thanks for your honesty and knowledge and research on this guitar. Wish I had the cash for something like this. I do have a 59 RI, but to find something like this is amazing.

As an owner of an old beat up guitar that might be worth something someday, I’d say give it a good cleaning and check it out first. Maybe try to copy the old pickups and make new ones. See how it sounded for him back then

Definitely a series of videos on the restoration along the lines of the Chris Buck 62 strat bought from a house clearance auction.

The best thing you can do with this guitar is send it to me lol. Please restore it . It would be a crime not to put it back to its glory. I'll dream bout this one tonight lol

It seems from much of social media the guitar has been sold to a wandering minstrel. So I fear this channel may not be able to progress with this fascinating story.
