Welcome to Let’s talk DIESEL, today we are going underneath to check out a part you do not see everyday, that is the DEF Pump, this is the mediator between the DEF tank and the SCR panel, so I hope this help you to understand better how DEF circuit works around your truck. Good video .. I d also like to see how to force the pump to work manualy ? How do you even tell if is good or not (without computer conected to the truck) . I m stuck with "service DEF , 5 mph limit " in truck stop and road service mechanics can t figure out how to fix it . Def fluid gauge didn t even bother to move from full after 4 - 5 drive .. and checking the def tank , it s actually really full (I don t see the level to be bad ) . Injector is also new and getting 12.7 ohm reading , I know that s good . The def line goign to the injector it looks pretty dry . How do I check the pump without the comand from a computer that I don t have . Any pin conection from 12 v battery or maybe a way to do it from the truck .?

I have a weird problem with my 2013 Volvo VNL 670 with D13. When I get into higher elevations/mountains (usually about 6000 ft and up) I will get the "SCR performance low, 5 MPH at next stop". If I stop, it will go into 5 MPH derate, then I leave it sit for 10 min and I start it again and then it says "SCR Performance Evaluation Continue Driving, 5mph Limit Temporarily Removed". After about 75-150 miles the codes will go away. Also, the codes will go away once I am below 6000 ft. I have checked the vent tube and it is clear. The dealer checks it and runs a regen but the numbers on the computer keep saying everything is fine. Thanks!

This is a very good question, but to get an straight answer is hard. Possibly causes could be: 1. It is possible that DEF might be contaminated in an small amount and gets worse at colder temperatures. 2. The DEF heater lines might be not working properly causing the DEF to be like slurpee. 3. Or ECM/ACM might have problems with the barometer sensor. Usually ECM Carries the barometer sensor inside, meaning you must replace the ECM. About the ACM I am not sure if it has another barometer sensor. Thanks for watching and keep in my mind this is my personal opinion and it is not an advice specifically for your truck.

So a mistake was made pumped 6 gallons of diesel in the def tank .the tank was drained an refilled then drained enough where def was clear.how to know if damage was done .no engine lights ,trucks running good.ran over 250 miles no issues or will there be ?

If your truck has not problem so far at this point in time, probably might have problems in the long run. The best you can do right now it is keeping an eye with the check engine light. If CEL is OFF then the diesel did not make to other sectors besides the tank. The most vulnerable components are the pump and the injector. Let’s hope nothing happens later to your vehicle.

The issue that I'm having is that when you check the system and the Dozer is open the pressure goes down from 130 to about 119 and it's supposed to be at 130 do you think the pump itself is bad

There is a possibility that the pump is bad, but first make sure that the injector itself has no leaks, second the DEF blue lines are ok without damage, third you might want to change the DEF pump filter before changing the whole pump perhaps you could get a pressure improvement. Also, if the pressure is low, a fault related to a Pump prime loss will appear in the diagnostic tool (Tech Tool). I hope this helps. Thanks for watching and good question.

Hi! I have a volvo 2016 engine d13. Regen coming every 2nd day and it's not doing automatically. I need to stop and do it myself. Do you know what's parts doesn't work properly? Fault code SA 16 DTC P20EE00. I already replaced def doser valve, inlet nox sensor. Thank you

Usually, the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) needs to be cleaned 250,000 miles (under Volvo Preventing Maintenance Manual). Also, if your Parked regeneration is that often, there is a possibility for DPF delta pressure sensor failure or a DPF failure, or something else relate it to emissions system (EGR cooler, EGR valve, Turbocharger, etc). I hope this help with your question.

Is this the same for def pump on 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee cuz they are charging me two grand to change the pump and flush the tank smh

This DEF pump is designed for heavy duty big rigs. But the one they are going to replace might look similar or it could be totally different. The function is the same, but believe me, those Aftertreatment parts are expensive. That is one of the many other issues many people is thinking twice before getting a diesel vehicle in these days.

Si solamente quiere cambiar el pedazo que conecta a las bomba del DEF. Pienso que no le costará conseguirlo pero no se cuanto costará, usualmente no son baratos, si no falla su vehículo, le recomiendo que solo lo acomode con unas cinchos de plástico para que le dure un poco más.
