Well thats kinda problematic of you to say. But in some aspects you could be right. As a black atiny myself of course the cornrows were offending however, I accepted their apology. This hair appropriation thing really hits me in the heart cause i as a black person am affected by it daily and non-black people will never understand. The hate that Hongjoong is receiving from actual atinys themselves needs to stop. The man apologized, he never had the intent to hate on my black culture and KQ do not have the energy and money like SM who can quickly re-edeit and delay the M/V. When I go on their social media (especially on twitter) the amount of hate on there is ridiculous and should stop. The same atinys who are saying that the boys are getting hate from everyone else are actual atinys who are instead hating on the boys. I can't believe that it's actual atinys that are hating on Hongjoong and leaving death threats and telling him to leave Ateez.

not everything you take form certain cultures can be looked at as appreciation tho. to Koreans, they think they are showing appreciation if they used something from another culture (not in a mocking way) bc they think "it is beautiful so let me share it beauty" + they also don't have the grasp of what CA is bc they don't have it in their own culture. with the hairstyle, if you looked at its history then you'll understand why it can be offensive to the community itself, but kq obviously didn't know that bc they are like every other person who think "well its just a hairstyle so I don't think we will offend anyone since we didn't mock it" because they don't or never knew the history behind.

The definition Cultural appropriation is to co-opt a different culture by depreciating it’s meaning and mocking it. Cultural appreciation is when you embrace and engage in a culture respectfully. There is nothing wrong with what hongjoong did. Cultural appropriation is a very American issue. And as a Caribbean American by parents are from Jamaica but I’m raised in America. Both America and Jamaica wear braids and locs and some people perceive them as unkept but if foreigners ever go to Jamaica, Jamaicans they love to share their food with them, braid their hair and share their culture. Bothe the carribeans and America have faced colonialism and slavery but some Americans don’t want to other people to share hairstyles because of that historical past. Those who argue that hongjoong is taking braids, have to realize the definition of take or steal is to now own something that the past owner doesn’t have access to. Hongjoong didn’t take anything because blacks can still engage in that culture. And to those who say he doesn’t know the historical framework so he can’t wear braids have to realize that 1 is not the definition of appropriation and two braids historically have been through indigenous culture, Viking culture, the African diaspora, Caribbean culture before it was even used in America. And the average person can’t tell you the history of braids within those cultures. Hongjoong is very socially aware and open to embracing other cultures, and as American who has Jamaican heritage I’m proud to see him embracing our culture

He also explain that he understands whoever doesnt like it fr the black community and that we should educate the companies on these things. From personal experience, ik atinys who are asian and know nothing about these things because not many black ppl are around there so they get confused with most stuff like this.
