Great overview. When it comes to syncing in Premiere I’d use the ‘create multicam sequence clip’ function - super fast way of syncing your multi cam picture with external audio. This basically just uses the audio waveform to match everything up then when you’re on the timeline go into Multicam mode and you can essentially do a software version of live switching right there. You can also go back and tweak transition points etc if need be

Yes, I’ve used this a bunch as well but it’s not always 100% for me in the sync. Pluraleyes is generally much better to automate this part of the process but if I’m honest, most of the time a great hand clap as a cheap slate is the quickest, most reliable option since the ATEM files are already blocked together and you’re just syncing audio to them.

This is exactly what I was looking for. I currently have only 3 USB-C ports on Mac and I can get only 2 HDMI inputs + USB Webcam, but I don't like using elgato switcher because it's only a switcher. I wanted to have all the HDMI outputs recorded so that if I forgot to switch from Dekstop to Camera where I talk, I could fix it in post production. At the same time, I wanted to switch cameras during the recording and not waste time on post editing unless I make a mistake. So, basically this Pro ISO is exactly what I need. Thank you so much, I searched several videos and your's was very easy to follow, wasn't boring, and hit the target audience exactly.

I got the one for $500 that lets you record but, it’s just one file it’s not the $799 one that you’re talking about in the video. The links you have up is the $299 and $499 you should add a link for the 799 because the 499 doesn’t give each hdmi port its own recording track which you outline in the video.

Great video Mahalo! So that I am clear on audio - I use the native camera audio that is output with the hdmi feed as a way to sync with the zoom recorder output, and then mute the cam audio in post.

Thanks for a really helpful video. I upgraded to an ISO from the original Pro. It arrived yesterday and I did a test multicamera podcast today. I use Vegas Pro. It has a multicamera tool that makes the switches very easy to do without having to keep looking down at the buttons. I did a line out audio feed from my Rodecaster Pro 2 monitor out (line level) into the ATEM mic 1 input but it was noisy. It didn’t matter though as the audio over HDMI from the cameras gave me clear reference points to sync the clean audio. Nice!

I love your videos, but out of the box the ISO version does NOT record every camera automatically. You have to set it up in the settings first. Though I should have tested it first, I assumed it would record all inputs separately by default since it is the ISO version. So for my first 3 podcast episodes I produced, which I recorded in one session back to back, there was only the produced video recording for each episode. I'm glad I worked the switcher just in case. You must go into the "Record Stream" settings and choose "ISO record all inputs".

I have a quick question if I have 4 mics connected into a soundboard can I feed the soundboard into the ATEM PRO ISO and will it be able to record all 4 mics as one or can it record all 4 mics separate? is that something that can be done with the Pro ISO?

Hi Samuel, So happy this helped you. Yes, as far as I can tell, the highest resolution I can get it 1080. It might be possible to record internally in 4K while sending a 1080 signal out of an external monitor, however, I have not tried this yet and can't confirm it will work. If you do, I'd love to hear about it.

After watching this, it's a no-brainer to buy the ISO version of the Atem 1 x ATEM Mini Pro ISO 2 x Shure SM7B 1 x Rodecaster pro 2 Will I need a pc/laptop to record, and can I take the audio out of the rode into the Atem?

So happy it was helpful! If you have a Rodecaster that’ll record the audio, you should pipe a line out of the monitor our headphone jack that goes into the Mic line of the ATEM. You’ll have audio in two different t places but have to sync in post, which is my preference.

A question: In OBS, can you make camera changes synchronized with the sensitivity of the microphones? I do this with 3 cameras and 2 microphones connected to a mixer. Can this be done with Atem? There are 2 of us in a podcast and we do not have the support of a third party for camera changes. We are looking to simplify the post-production process. Thanks

So I use Sony cameras. You can't record on camera while you're pushing to HDMI unless it's from an monitor out. The ISO has a setting where it will record the program feed as well as all four HDMI feeds giving you a program feed that has all of the camera switches you made during recording, but also the individual camera feeds. As we should in this video, you can bring all of those files into the NLE of your choice and make changes to the video before you export.

Thanks! What we do is record audio to a Zoom or Rodecaster separately and run a line-out from those recorders into the ATEM Mic 1 or 2 as scratch audio to match up in post. Works like a charm.

Redundancy with audio is always a great idea, especially in a medium where audio is the primary output. Plus, it’s a cleaner feed with more data to work with/manipulate in post later.

Hello can someone please help me? I'm having troubles understanding camera setup for the mini pro. I have a sony A7c and A7iv connected to the atem mini pro, works great. But now my issue is the a7iv is recording the not only the image, but the camera Huds also, and how to get rid of the black bars on the camera display its recording a black square outline also.

You need a clean feed for your HDMI output. That's why you're getting the huds. Also, your aspect ratio is probably 3:2 for the black bars. Pretty sure I go over that in this video (how to get a clean HDMI feed) but it's in your HDMI monitor settings in the menu.

Hey Robert! Thanks for posting this excellent video. I was curious if you could help with something. I'm hoping to use AutoPod with my 3 camera setup feeding into Rodecaster pro 2 + ATEM Mini Iso. AutoPod needs separate A/V tracks for each speaker. Is there any way you can think of to accomplish this straight from ATEM to SSD or PC?

The reason I’d like to have the option is because I’m often going to be interviewing clients on camera podcast style and I won’t always have someone to man the ATEM in real time. Additionally I’d like to create form content where the jump cutting features in AutoPod will allow me to save significant time on editing.

@@movingtovawv - We use separate mics and audio recordings through a Rodecaster Pro 2, which gives us separate, and better audio, but if you wanted, since I believe the ISO records separate camera audio tracks too, you could run your each speaker's microphone into one of the cameras so you would get the audio separated that way for AutoPod. Might not be the best audio, but it would be separate. Always best to record audio separately for best audio quality and best audio separation for things like AutoPod.

Hi Robert! Thanks for your info, very well explained. I have a doubt about the ATEM. I understand that the ATEM at the end of the recording is giving us the program and all the inputs recorded in 1920x1080 as it does not accept 4K but, as you, I do use Sony cameras that can record in 4K. Is there any chance to record the show to each camera to an SD card internally in 4K in case we want to edit and deliver the show in 4K to the client?. Thanks!

Sometimes. You can nudge the audio in the BM software if that is happening for live. Otherwise, I just fix that in post with the audio I capture separately.

It should NOT RECORD anything that was not supposed be recorded. It's crazy that black magic would record a file that you did not want to be recorded.

I haven't noticed anything related to that, Matthew but to be fair, I haven't experimented a bunch with anything other than 24 fps. What were you recording in? How long until you say issues with your video; right away or later in the recording?
