This may seem random but I grew up in the church and thought that was the whole religion just going to church every Sunday and eventually stopped going and started to do my own thing. I wanted to find the purpose of life because I knew everything we worked for would pass away. I was looking at all the religions unbiasedly, looking historically so I wouldn't have blind faith. Later on I had a tug on my heart to open up the Bible and saw the Jesus people talked about was completely different from what was in the Bible. I started to draw closer to the higher power and had a supernatural encounter with him and I felt his love and peace and was indescribable and overwhelming almost but was out of this world and everything looked brand new like it was the first time seeing it when I looked outside literally. I wasn't expecting the encounter either and was shocked when it happened. (I don't do drugs or alcohol) His name is Jesus and I’m here to tell you it’s about a relationship not religion and he is real and did die on the cross for you willingly and thinks you as the only person and was thinking of you while dying. You don’t have to believe my experience you can seek yourself, I suggest you start in the minimalistic facts of the resurrection because if the resurrection is false than Christianity is false. All we chase in this life is temporary think about your eternal life.

What hogwash - he did not reject anything or anyone. He was just asking for proof. None of the believers ever was able to do so. And even worse. Believers make extraordinary claims that would require extraordinary evidence but that would require real work - much easier to throw in some platitudes like: You must have faith - no, no I don't especially if this faith requires me to let my critical faculties go for a hike, I don't. Or: God works in mysterious ways - so do I if I am drunk enough. To say it with Hagrid: Codswallop

Continue seeking the Truth of everything with an open mind, and an open heart (i hope you understand what that means) and you will find the answer. Lemme give you the answer you will find right now: Its Jesus Christ. But you dont have to believe me. Reflect on your own life, study the gospels for yourself, and then conclude whether or not you NEED Jesus. Asking for physical proof is unreasonable. As humans, we dont necessarily based our lives on proof. However, we look at the evidence that points to almost every aspect of our lives. Asking for proof for God, but refusing to look at and test the evidence that points towards his existence is dishonest and arrogant.

Interesting that he says, "I'm not allowed to bring a lawyer." 1 John 2:2 says, "My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." So we can bring a lawyer, a defense attorney who fully understands the law and gave His life to ensure that the charges against us don't stand. So you're allowed to bring a lawyer. Christ died to be your lawyer. But Hitchens rejected the ONLY lawyer who can ensure the charges are dropped while complaining that he's not allowed to have a lawyer.

‎”Supposing there was no intelligence behind the universe, no creative mind. In that case, nobody designed my brain for the purpose of thinking. It is merely that when the atoms inside my skull happen, for physical or chemical reasons, to arrange themselves in a certain way, this gives me, as a by-product, the sensation I call thought. But, if so, how can I trust my own thinking to be true? It’s like upsetting a milk jug and hoping that the way it splashes itself will give you a map of London. But if I can’t trust my own thinking, of course I can’t trust the arguments leading to Atheism, and therefore have no reason to be an Atheist, or anything else. Unless I believe in God, I cannot believe in thought: so I can never use thought to disbelieve in God” -C.S. Lewis.

@MultiCII is not exactly a refutation of Lewis point. Mind you, Lewis was a fervent atheist and scientist before his conversion near the end of his life. He spent an entire lifetime grappling with these questions before coming to a conclusion. You've just perused a few youtube videos. People like Hitchens still to this day have never countered any of his arguments because they themselves believe that, yes, they can trust their brain despite their belief being created by entirely random forces. They implicitly trust the idea that random chemicals and neurons firing is enough justification to trust it or these random events explain something as complicated and immaterial as thought and reason. They've never been able to provide a scientific rationale for why ideas of non material existence like morality exist. They say evolutionary theory gives way to that? But evolutionary theory is a concept where the strong devour weak. There's a reason atheistic 'scientific' facistic regimes developed soon after Darwins ideas.

No, what are you trying to say. You cant equate spilling milk to the complex neurochemical interactions that produce thought. We know from neuroscience that stimulating a particular part of the brain or depressing particular types of neurotransmitters can change a persons thoughts, personality, cause fear, it can even make someone sexually deviant. This shows thought is clearly a product of physical -chemical occurrences that evolved throughout different species to reach the complex level humans have now. Something being difficult to explain doesn't necessitate magic as the answer. @@infinitrixtv5847

I, like you, do not subscribe to the Wager as the path to salvation (true salvation doesn't work that way), but it is food for thought in that it points out the fact that only the atheist is at risk. IOWs, if I, as a Christian turn out to be wrong, and the atheist is right, I live my life with the comfort, strength, and joy of my false belief until I die in peace, and cease to exist. I lose nothing. If I'm right (which I am) then I get to live this good life, now, PLUS an infinitely better new life of eternal bliss after. I win either way. On the other hand, if I'm right, and the atheist wrong, his loss is horrendous, but if he is right he gets to live in nihilistic misery, now, enduring whatever purposeless suffering comes to him until he goes off into oblivion, after. The atheist has everything to lose, and absolutely NOTHING to gain. I would literally rather be roadkill, than to be an atheist, and even if I were an atheist, I would promote Christianity simply for the benefits and comforts it affords. After all, what's the point of taking away people's hope and comfort if the atheist's meaningless worldview is true, anyway?

@Daniel-b6s That's it? That's your big attack on the Bible? Some scribe got some numbers off? I expected something far bigger than that. I'm the last person to say that the Bible has been perfectly transmitted to us in the 21st century English speaking world. That doesn't invalidate the basic precepts of the scriptures, though. Have you ever even bothered to look into how we got the Bible today? There has been and continues to be much debate on certain MINOR points, but the core principals of Christianity found in scripture are plain and consistent throughout, and are considered orthodox doctrine by all major denominations. Are you that critical with other ancient documents...or modern ones, for that matter? I've found typos and minor errors in MODERN textbooks that used modern equipment and technology to produce, yet the bible authors had to painstakingly copy the scriptures by hand with primative pens and ink by oil lamp light. I think they did a pretty remarkable job, all things considered. You do know, being the eminent Bible scholar that you are, that NO ONE TODAY possesses the original autographs, right? The originals no longer exist, or, if they do, they've been lost. We must make do with very excellent, though slightly flawed, COPIES of those original autographs. Flaws that do not compromise essential basic orthodox Christian doctrine in anyway. As for your gotcha about God tempting people to do evil, that is true, and no Christian I know of is confused by that. He does use Satan to tempt people, though, as is seen in the temptation of Christ by Satan in the Gospels. So if Satan is carrying out something that God wills to happen, like the temptation of His Son, it can be said that it's coming from God, since it is His will. But NO, God doesn't directly tempt anyone. Also, the word TEMPT in old English, like some words even in modern English has more than one sense in the Bible. In one sense it means to entice someone to sin, while in another sense, it means to try or test someone with some sort of adversity. God does do that. What's wrong with David doing a census? The most obvious answer is because Almighty God TOLD HIM NOT TO. If you were a good man, you would stop right there. That should be a good enough reason for you. God said NO, PERIOD. God doesn't have to explain His reasons to us puny sacks of dirt. However, the obvious problem was David getting the big head because of how powerful he was militarily. The US is like that, no? All fighting aged men of Israel were automatically part of the army, back then. David was proud of his army, and God hates human pride. God knew, as David should have, that David's power was in God, not his army. And, your claim that Israel's army couldn't be a certain size, back then, is just an assumption on your part. You weren't there, so you have no way of knowing. You're just exercising FAITH in the written words of man, which is, ironically, what your ilk accuse us Christians of doing. Even if that accusation was true, then it would only mean that it was just our HUMANS' words against your HUMANS' words.

According to one story of his last words, Voltaires response to a priest at his deathbed urging him to renounce Satan was allegedly… "Now is not the time for making new enemies." However, if you fact check this quote it’s fake as it actually originated from a joke first published in a Massachusetts newspaper in 1856, and was only attributed to Voltaire in the 1970s. Moreover, Voltaire actually died in 1778 - yes? But atheists, bless them, get little cheapies out of the thought that Voltaire was one of their own and sold his soul to the Devil - right? That is they get a SUPERIORITY COMPLEX over left wing fairytales that Voltaire sold his soul to the god of automatons and the god of materialism and scientism. He clearly wasn’t an atheist!! No one really knows what he said near his death. Apart from…. On the 28th of March 1778, only a few months before he died he wrote these famous lines to his secretary Wagnière : “I'm dying worshipping God, loving my friends, without hate for my ennemies and with detestation of superstition” [Voltaire]. Near the end he clearly made his peace with God and his enemies whilst suffering with illness. Suffering seems to do that. It gives people a good kick up the backside and rattles them from their teenage sophomoric stupor. That’s the paradoxical nature of reality and redemption.

@@stunns2003 In my view, individuals often rely on belief systems to seek security and meaning in their lives. I believe this attachment to beliefs stems from psychological conditioning influenced by society, family, and culture. The notion of a "malevolent character" offering an alternative vision can be seen as an external force attempting to manipulate people through fear or desire. I advocate questioning and resisting such manipulation. I hold a critical stance towards organized religions and ideologies that demand unwavering commitment. I contend that such commitments often lead to conformity, division, and conflict. From my perspective, societies built on rigid belief systems inherently foster division. I didn’t really notice how much i was sweating until drips of sweat came down off my arm. All a sudden within two seconds i got chills all over my body and my hairs on my arm stuck straight up. It lasted about 10 seconds and the chill went away. You atheists can’t tell me that wasn’t an act of God. Not saying you should up and believe my story right away. No, but you should questioning yourself is God real, instead of ignoring my story. I used be hesitant that jesus was the savior i prayed to God to show me a way that jesus is the savior. And another situation before this one i told you about happen that lead me to believe jesus is our savior. You atheists should be doing the same. The audacity of those here who claim Hitchens was blinded by logic (what a ridiculous premise), that his pride damaged his soul, that when speaking the hypothetical to its logical conclusion that he was actually crying out to god, that he refused to believe in god so he could do what he wanted, that he believed he was or wanted to be god etc etc are close-minded people who refuse to put their beliefs to any test of logic or empirical evidence. When Hitchens said he'll tell God that he wasn't able to gain any understanding from the claims made by God's "spokespersons," I thought of when Jesus told of the rich man burning in hell, and he see's Abraham and Lazarus in the distance -- Lazarus had been a poor, crippled beggar who laid at the gate and begged. He was so crippled and weakened that the dogs would come and lick his sores. The rich man begged Abraham to send Lazarus to put a drop of water on his tongue, for he was in agony in the flame. Abraham said there was a great chasm fixed between them and him, and it wouldn't be possible. So the rich man begged Abraham to send someone to tell his 7 brothers about this place. But Abraham told the rich man, "If they didn't believe Moses and the prophets, they won't beliieve even if someone returns from the dead." Sad. This life is so brief, and we are all sinners and need to repent and receive Jesus, our only hope of spending eternity with a holy God.

The people of God were looking at the cloud by day and the pillar by night, saw the red sea part in front of them and later saw an entire Egyptian army die in the same sea, and yet the still did not believe God. God gifted him with more intelligence than majority of people and he wasted it poorly. But freely. In the presence of God he has not any excuse (other people could have). He buried his ten talents and encouraged many people to do the same. That's an horrible choice. The cancer was his last chance to think about but his obstinacy and proud against God was stronger. Only a grain of humility is sufficient to get mercy from God. At the end of the life vain knowledge is straw. Conceit drives to perdition. 'Intelligence" accord human eyes is not wisdow but stupidity. (Perhaps God have mercy of him). And of course his final pretext to justify his disbelief before God is childish and ridiculous. Before God, the Creator of the universe and the maker of all the destructive energies and colosal forces, Hitchens like any minuscule creature will be silent and horrified facing the Supreme Majesty of God. The wicked like the just will hear their eternal destiny with horror or relief. No one will dare to discuss with God. Mercy is for all people before death. After death there will be only Justice. The problem with Hitchens is that he never seemed to argue in a way to convince theists, which is the entire point of a debate, instead he just kept playing to his own crowd. Forty years ago, I walked into a pub, and a friend said he had become a Christian, and I thought "crank". He told me about a man who had been given one week to live, due to liver disease, brought on by alcohol. Ken, the afflicted, went into a park, burst into tears, and shouted: " Jesus Christ, if you heal ne, I will preach your word!! ". The pain went, and he was later told by doctors that he had been miraculously healed...My friend Ralph was duly converted, and I duly fell to my knees and asked forgiveness - BANG, I was baptised in the fire of The Holy Spirit, and I knew, in a few seconds, God is REAL. Atheists have indeed taken notice that Christians often give themselves license to lie to non-believers about these kinds of "miracle" healings. We take notice that your god somehow feels he needs to perform a cheap conjuring trick in order to win your faith. Meanwhile, the Atheist is also aware that your friend chose to believe in god because he had nothing to lose. Pascal's wager? He did not do so because IT WAS THE RIGHT THING TO DO (according to your own religion) but rather, you did so out of a wish to gain god's favor...or to avoid divine punishment. Hardly any morality on display here...by either god or your dying friend. And yes, the Atheists always take note that your god didn't bother to save your friend from his affliction in the first place, saying much more about your pretend friend in heaven than your pretend friend here on earth.

Having a bad father figure very rarely leads to atheism. Atheism means not trusting ludicrous claims because "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence". It's often true (but not always) that GOOD parental relationships lead to atheism, because if you have good parents, they won't try to religiously condition you because no good person does that to their own vulnerable child. "one's soul"...assuming much? "Intellectual pride" is an oxymoronic phrase we narcissistic humans tend to use when we claim that we are made in the image and likeness of the supreme creator of this universe. The truth is that we are primates that have a slightly bigger brain and share 99% of our genome with apes. Can't believe that 95% of the worlds population still worship some form of a god...humans are truly moronic ape-like dipshits, IQs are irrelevant...a human/ape is still just a stupid human/ape no matter what his IQ.

People like you scare the ever living sh*t out of me. I feel safer around atheists, they are almost always more kind, rational, intelligent, and empathetic. But most importantly, they aren't prone to incomprehensible, irrational violence because they interpret a sign from an imaginary being that they must simultaneously profess to love, appease, worship, and fear. I don't blame you for believing as you do, not really, it's not your fault. It's your parents, and their parents before them. But mainly it's the religious charlatans, and hucksters calling themselves priest, reverend, rabbi, and imam that are to blame for creating credulous humans that will believe almost anything at all, without any evidence whatsoever. These subhumans even mock their victims openly by calling themselves shepherds, and their prey, sheep; as they fleece them of their money, sanity, and go on to sexual abuse their children. All this done, while being tax free, and insulated from blame by their religious institutional infrastructures that are embedded like Lyme disease ridden ticks in modern society. Yes, I think the world could do without engineered lunatics who think like you, created by these monsters, and that that state of the world cannot get here soon enough.

There are a couple of issues with pascals wager. How do you know you have belief in the right religion? After all if you choose the wrong one you may be in trouble. Religion is usually based on culture and geography. Surely it is unfair for a god to punish individuals because they have been born and brought up as highly influenced children in a region where another religion is the norm. If God is all knowing, surely he would see through an individual who is only believing in him because it is better than an alternative as opposed to true faith. Pascals wager is a very weak arguement for belief in religion. The whole arguement is based on the premise that believing in God is surely better than hell if you are wrong. The definition of a cult is "an organised group whose purpose is to dominate cult members through psychological manipulation and pressure strategies". This sounds like pascals wager to me.

@@aaronfunnell5220 It's not that some believers are simply trying to consciously cover their butts or trick god. It's that religious societies impose conscious fear of everlasting torture (read all the comments) to create and maintain the belief...either way, in both instances, the belief is based purely on self interest. Since religion is fear based belief of a god without evidence (again, read all the comments), you would think that an all knowing god would appreciate one of his flock had intelligence and a spine. You misquoted 2 Corinthians 5:10. That judgement is only for Christians and other believers of the first resurrection and is for the purpose of rewards. The Great White Throne Judgement, which is the final judgment, is for non-believers in the second resurrection and is done for the purpose of condemnation. Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence, earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:11-15

You could simply just be mistaken in believing there are many gods and not one God because there are many different religions, which confuses you. But any unbiased examination of religion by analysing comparative features of all of them to discover which one is true (because if God does exist there must be only one religion) is the only scientific approach to truth existing in any of them. It is blatantly obvious that there is only one God and only one true religion - and it is the one you hate the most, which is also scientific proof or evidence that shows it is true. You know which one it is. If you don't, I highly doubt you are capable of a reasonable discussion henceforward.

It also simultaneously identifies THE SUPREME CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE as having chosen to materialize as an earthbound primate with a genome almost identical to an ape ... it's gibberish... completely bonkers, my friend.

I sensed a look in the man's eye when he said he was determined not to "try anything survile".The look made me think that perhaps he was very tempted to ask for God's help. and perhaps he had already done so without pretending to believe what he wasn't able to. Like he wanted desperately to believe, and needed God so much, but was distraught that he couldn't and now it was too late to learn.

@ghabrielmelooliveira1426 I agree that Hitchens was brilliant. What evidence can you provide that he "made a big difference in many people's lives and the world for sure" -- especially the latter?

@@mkq77 I'd say that, by (him)providing different points of view on the world, regarding religious doctrines and faith, it enables people to open up to new, more elucidating and reasonable interpretations of historical, cultural and religous beliefs, interpretations based on scientific evidence, unvailing outdated dogmas and predujicial misunderstandings by the light of reason, that us, human beings have developed through the ages. That is, what I am trying to imply, is that his criticism of religious fundamentalism, or religions in general is an effective objection to dangerous faith based arguments, that, in of course, my opinion, leads in most cases to fear and hating state of mind in society. So, I assassume and thoroughly would point out that, his work has been of great admiratiom and respect, since it unwraps our ignorance and defies arrogant presumptions. But again, I can't speak for everyone, but as for myself, I am more enlightened in way and better educate now.

He was not brilliant just because he was popular. I've never heard one brilliant insight come out of his mouth. He did make a difference in people's lives. Many were led to their doom by him, while others were strengthened in their faith by the display of his profound foolishness.

God is definitely real, created universe defined by time, space, and matter and governed by laws and Bible is true through Christ transforming people’s lives then and now. Don’t know why individuals are so stubborn, but God gives them the freewill to either love or reject Him. In Christopher Hitchens’ eyes, you can see that God is still working on his heart. “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16 “What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived”- the things God has prepared for those who love him.” 1 Corinthians 2:9

that is a very empty question you likely heard so many times you just repeat it no offense , people act like a youtube comment is likely to bring them to truth , or a conversation in passing , or a simple sign they will probably write off as coincidence or something else , stop relying on others , test the claims , study the religions , see what one would make sense if it were to be the truth , and then test the claims with faith and obedience like you currently are science and your entire existence . I know it to be Jesus , but , you start wherever you want , and test the claim , otherwise , you never wanted the truth to begin with , you wanted someone to tell you what truth is and be convincing , God will , as he did for me and many , give undeniable experiences , AFTER you seek him as he asked , diligently , with humility , in obedience , otherwise , if you can not put in the effort , why would you ever be in the position to appropriately deal with and act upon the truth? in this case , it is better God leaves you be until you are in a better state to receive him . this intellectual game of debates and you tube comment wars , conversation over beers and so on is so phony , if someone is serious ...start seeking sincerely...

Sadly what you have done is damned yourself. Truth is found in God and his word. I hope that the holy spirited touches your heart and you know the true meaning of loving God. The truth is far more bitter to swallow than the lie of this world. People don’t want to meet the God the Bible….because then that means you’ll need to confront all those sins and account for them. Sin is not dealt with anywhere else but with Jesus. We are all sinful and fall short.
