Athens is a very interesting city, full of unique charms, and fascinating history. In this video, I head out on a neighborhood evening walk to just discover what's around the area.
If you're in the area, Dio Dekares i Oka Restaurant is a great local Greek restaurant where you can enjoy a home-cooked style feast.
We first walked over to a classic old style Greek coffee shop, and I had a double Greek coffee. It was a pretty cool place, very classic. My double coffee - 2 EUR
Next we stopped off at a neighborhood convenience store and bought some gum.
Geor. Olimpiou Walking Street - This is a wonderful walking street full of restaurants and cafes. If you come here, you can eat some delicious grilled meat at this restaurant: • Greek Chicken Gyro Pla...
And that completes this Athens evening walk and neighborhood tour.

Kiosk or periptero. The origin of the kiosk. Created for men disabled by WW2 so they have work. After they die his family continues it.

i love how mark embraces and appreciates the culture of every country and food a taste.. He doesnt even seem like a tourist its like he visited these places in another time, how he knows his way around soo easily... micah is going to grow up loving food and culture just like his parents

at their peak it was very advanced. GDP per capita was 30k at that point.

No sir unfortunately won't. Greece is a debt colony of Germany. Greeks Ard really being destroyed. Population reduced half a million from 2010 to 2020 because deaths are more than births not mention the people who immigrated. This haven't happened since WW2. If Greece stays at eurozone will not longer exists.

Just spent 2 weeks in Athens, metaxourgeio. My heart already longs to return. Such a beautiful country and the locals are so welcoming. They get emotional when talking about their home

I have relatives in Athens, and when my dad used to take us there back in the 70's and early 80's, the city was clean and well kept. I have not been there since, and even just by watching your videos, I can readily see the decline. Just look at how that park has been essentially abandoned. Graffiti was rare back then too. Clearly, Greece is hurting in so many ways.

these kiosks are called ''periptera'' and these coffee shops are called ''kafenia'' and its mostly for older man to hang out, play cards and tavli...i am so glad you liked our country!hope you'll visit again and maybe this time visit an island or my home town kavala which has amazing beaches for the summer time!you have a beautiful family! greetings from Greece!

Koukaki is my neighborhood! I currently live in Sweden, so different here, so you understand how i must be missing Koukaki! Well done for all the food and restaurant choices, after checking your choices, i swear i said to myself, that guy really knows about food, and after that i promised myself im gonna trust you for other places in my trips!!!!!! I had a stop over in Athens - stayed near the beach and could see the ancient hilltop but it was so hot to go - stayed by beach - enjoyed it - love to visit the islands of Greece, like the folk music and spirit of the people

Ohhh dear Mark welcome to Greece. First of All, wish you could see our beautiful country a few years back, we had such beautiful parks and so many stores that now you see them closed due to the crisis, second there are way more beautiful areas but I understand this one was very convenient in order to visit our historic places. Wish you will be back to Greece and I would love to give you information on where to go :) :)

Domanique Nicole I’d say Monastiraki, Plaka, Kolonaki and the area around Syntagma Square for central Athens. I don’t live in Greece but visited often. I also really love the costal suburbs including Glyfada and Vouliagmeni (the later has nice but expensive beaches).

I hope you liked our country. I really live so close. I live in Kallithea which is very close to koukaki. So I know our country has seen better days. I'm sure basically but we as a country have something that nobody and nothing can take it away. We are people that will hug you, welcome you, treat you as best as we can. And we have so much history and culture. I wish you could see Greece before economic crisis but I think you and your family still had a really good time❤❤
