@Jadd Cavalberry Ehh, that's a fairly simplistic view on progression. If someone had completely ideal form, programming, nutrition, rest, etc. from day 1 - then sure. He has to speak up. This is his deadlift max or close to it. That's why. Usually, of course, getting near that max stage, you use everything to lift the weight so form decreases. Im not saying you cant have good form and a max. I'm just saying for this particular one, let that part slide because he did show what he pretty much can deadlift. Doesn't *necessarily* cause injury. A rounded back likely doesn't cause injury when a strong lifter who trains the movement pattern frequently utilizes the technique. A rounded back may very well cause injury when an undertrained lifter like Jeff goes full bore at a 1RM attempt like this without having spent very much time acclimating his body to the technique. That's a key difference.
@Fortress333

@OVERCOME72 When a back loses tension during a lift, it's more prone to injury. Jeff clearly demonstrated how to get a ticket to snap city. Someone else here made the comparison with a fishing rod. Good thing the fraudster is a physio, so he can employ his own BS services on his own broken body soon. His deadlift was terrible. It was bad with the fake weights, but this is just horrendous. No leg drive (because he has chicken legs, like a typical gym bro), no back strength (also just like a typical gym bro), and so he just yanked it off the floor bent over with no control over his back. Do that often enough and he will be forever grimacing, like he is often doing with his fake weights. He also doesn't know how to use a belt, it's clear to see. Worst of all is his douchebag attitude. It's ultra cringe. He's not even lifting with the technique he recommends himself. I think he does have a video about how to deadlift or something like that. I don't think even he is dumb enough to recommend pulling like that. There is no way he can pull much more; this was near max what he can lift and actually according to me past his max, because I count a max lift as a completed lift with solid technique and no cutting corners. This was nothing remotely like good form. Max gym lifts are often exaggerated, because people cut depth on the squat, also on the bench (where they bounce and lift their butt off the bench too and have the spotter row the weight up, and the deadlift is often with godawful form, like Athlean Dipshit has just demonstrated. The guy is typical of someone who does some steroids secretly and then busies himself with some fluff pump work. Any serious lifter can see right through him. Still, he can retain his core audience of complete tool noobs. I have nothing against beginners, but his audience consists of the dumb kind. It's the biggest market share, which he wisely chose to select. Anyone with two or more brain cells capable of rubbing together won't bother getting advice from him. I'm mildly curious to see his lapdogs praise him now even more. I mean that bald man with the crooked teeth and potty mouth and that other douchebag, whose name I can't remember. • Ground out an ugly-ass single with around 70lbs less than the convincing double he did previously (with blatant gimmick plates). • Wore a belt (even though they weaken the transverse abdominis, bro). • Lost his grip on the bar & pretended he did it intentionally (hand opening & bar roll can be better seen at 0.25 speed). I'm sorry, but I'm not the slightest bit impressed. 425 lbs for a single is something the vast overwhelming majority of young men taking up strength training should be able to do within their first year of (proper) training. & if people want to use Jeff's emaciated physique as an excuse for his "meh" strength, he made his bed by choosing physique over strength & performance. The fact he's used fake weights to give impressionable young men an unrealistic standard of "dick-skin" leanness + strength irks me. There's too much of this crap in the fitness industry, & all it does is take something that should give young men an outlet & a sense of self-worth & instead make them feel inadequate because they can't maintain 6% body fat while being able to deadlift "500lbs for reps" like Jeff "Fake Pulls" Cavaliere, which he uses to exploit them with extortionate (& frankly shitty) training programs. He's a worthless prat & the fact that he's going to such lengths to surreptitiously keep up the blatant lie rather than coming clean demonstrates that: 1. He has 0 integrity. 2. He is easily capable of lying about other things, such as his "natty" status. This issue is like the KZfaq fitness equivalent of Lance Armstrong. The fact is that there are amazing content providers (like yourself Alec) whose channels have been buried by a portion of Jeff's 10 million+ strong sub-base, just because they dared to criticise the gimmick laden/fallacious content Jeff has put out over the years. @@RichM3000 it's quite possible that he did try it and I was being charitable. He is untrained at the deadlift so it is likely that he would "fail" a true 1rm attempt. But based on how the 425 looked we can surmise that regardless of what happened after it there was still a *little* bit if strength left "in the tank" and if he got better at deadlifting he could deadlift more weight even WITHOUT getting stronger, per se.

The most egregious example of fake weights was when he did the 315 close grip bench press to low set pins. The bar barely kissed the pins that was set a couple inches off his chest or maybe 3-4 but in an impossibly difficult portion ofmovement to reverse the direction of the bar before your pecs have a chance to pre stretch and actually provide explosion out of the bottom position. The bar almost elevated as if a magician was raising it with invisible fishing line. The bar with six total plates on it didn't appear to assert any meaningful downward force into his hands.even guys who have world record bench presses appear to be under some stress when they have 315 the bar because it is actually 315 x on the bar which is known to exert 315 pounds of downward gravitational force in one atmosphere. It looked like a totally empty bar and moved like one. Even if you can bench press 600 pounds and toy with 315,you none-the-less have to get underneath the weight and drive up with more than an equivalent amount of force. That bench press effort was an absolute disgrace and insults any lifters intelligence. When people claim that Jeff is capable of lifting the weights that are shown in the video, that is complete b*******. But people who have never deadlifted 400 let alone 500, have no idea how fast 425 would move if he was capable of deadlifting in the mid 500s. So in summary, 1) the video was complete horse crap 2) the fact that he never admitted it is embarrassing and unprofessional 3)the fact that he dead lifted a single with poor form and 70 pounds lessresistance then he nailed for a perfect double lowering it slowly under control which nobody does with 500,shows that he thinks you're even dumber by trying to convince you that he wasn't necessarily lying about how much he could lift. He actually proved beyond any shadow of a doubt that he was wayweaker and yet he use that video to prove that he was just as strong as he purported to be in the video. That means he takes most of his audience as a real dummies. Not cool and you are absolutely right.

so he's proving that he can deadlift 500 lbs without a belt for a double with no grinding by posting a clip of him deadlifting 425 lbs with a belt grinding the whole time and people take that as evidence that he didnt use fake weigths?How can people believe that i dont get it

425 pounds, back hunched abit, 1 rep struggle. 500 pounds, back totally straight, 2 easy reps. Jeff just own-goaled himself.

I think the most hilarious thing Jeff could do right now is comit to gaining a little bit of weight and trying to get insanely strong for his age/weight. I gained a little bit of respect back to Jeff here... He's sort of like... Coming clean, by showing his max Deadlift is 425. Proving that he could never pull 500 and a lot of other lifts in the past were obviously fake. While Jeff probably doesn't squat bench or Deadlift that much, I reckon he has a relatively more impressive Weighted pull up and strict curl... And if he actually trained to get strong, he'd probably find at least 1 of the big 3 that he excels at... Especially if he takes his slow methodical approach.

This obviously happened a few years ago now but even today I see people defending him. 'Oh his face-pull exercise blew up my shoulders without causing my existing shoulder injury any problems. So what if he used fake weights one time?', I actually got that one. I love this drama, I will admit it. Not only do I love the drama but I also learn a lot too.

When I started lifting 1.5 years ago I quickly came to Jeffs channel. However after a few months with all kinds of weird exercises I kinda was done with it. Changed to Virtuvian Physique and Greg Doucette. They mostly gave me the idea it doesnt have to be so complicated and also emphasized more on doing what works for you and focus on having fun with working out and nutrition. I feel Jeffs content usually focussed on 5% of those extra gains, but it wasnt consequent. Having a steady program for a few weeks with good exercises for each bodypart and then switching up in order, intensity in dropsets and other variations works better then having 12 different exercises that are so complicated that changes are your form isnt gonna be good. Now that I see this and know he cant even do it, it seems it confirms my gut feeling that it doesnt actually give better results to do all that. It just makes them complicated for no reason.

Not that this is relevant to the fake weights issue, but 405 deadlift is considered a realistic 1-year achievement for an average dude... and this guy lifts 425 with scaredy cat back arching. The only thing that makes this in any way a respectable lift is the fact that he's in his 40s and ultra lean. And btw this proves even more that he was lying.

What is everyone talking about? Jeff DID NOT prove anything. He only proved that he is indeed weak. He didn't deadlift 495x2 beltless. He struggled with 425 with a belt, with horrible form.
