Great tips Nikki! When my kids were younger, I used a desk calendar and hung it up in the kitchen. We referred to it as The Hub. Each child was responsible for one room a week. On Sundays, the kids were rotated to a different room. There wasn't much time that was spent cleaning. It was only maybe 60 min. or less a week. Kids spend more than that on screen time. In the beginning, I would work along side them, to show them how to clean. If the situation was over whelming at times, I would again work along side them. It taught them responsibility and lessened the stress on the family because everyone was involved. My husband and I had responsibilities with in the home as well. If a parent wants good results, they have to set the example. You have to work into it slowly with them. Understand that they won't be good at it in the beginning. It takes time, be patient, encourage them, and praise them.

Sorry for your loss 🙏🏾 I understand 100% I'm in the same boat I've had a lot of losses over the last 3 years and everything spiraled as a result. Trying to get back on track and dig myself out as well. What I'm learning is take baby steps, don't be too hard on yourself, give yourself grace and reward yourself (things I've always struggled with 🤦🏽‍♀️) praying strength and healing for you and your loved ones. You can do this 💪🏾

This is the same situation I am in at the moment. My sweet Mum passed away last October! My life turned upside down. On top of that my son got married this past January. Talk about an emotional rollercoaster. The process of decluttering and organizing has begun. It's overwhelming, but as you say "start small" This is where I am at. Blessings to you!

Girl I stopped buying multiple colored socks 10 years ago. Such a time saver when doing laundry which I dislike. The visual clutter bothered me as well as the crazy time it took sorting all those out every week. My son and I wear solid black and dad likes solid white. Grab them out of the dryer and throw them into the drawer and BOOM! Done (with that part anyway). Also when you get a hole you throw away one sock instead of a whole pair. I'm constantly looking for small ways to reduce time while doing the same tasks everyday because all that little stuff really adds up. You guard your weekends. Me, I guard my energy because I burn out very quickly with the hours I work and I'd much rather put that energy into the people I love. Much love to you! ❤️

All my life, I thought I hated laundry. When I downsized homes, the W/D downsized as well. Turns out, I hate *large* loads. I can churn through many small loads without feeling crushed. I wish I’d learned it sooner but grateful I learned it. Life changing!

I love this - common sense and nonjudgmental. I have an anxiety disorder and depression so when things slide... It's such a vicious cycle and can be sooooo overwhelming. Really love that you validate adapting conventional standards to more do-able approaches. And huge thank you for addressing out dated gender rolls that many of us are still fighting. ❤

I totally understand the vicious cycle of anxiety, and yes, it is so overwhelming. My quiet, internal anxiety has made me dysfunctional for years, and it's like a living hell. This is a great video with common sense tips. I think I'll start with 10 minutes a day, and not put so much pressure on myself. And then I'll take it from there. I think there are a lot of us that get overwhelmed easily, and people don't understand unless they are the same way. You are not alone. ❤ Blessings!🙏

Oh my goodness Nikki, it's as if you've made this video just for me! I've said for a very long time that I don't look at one section of a room, I look at the whole room which then turns into the whole house and I just close up. My constant thoughts are "I can't do this, what's the point". I'm taking on board all your tips today and break things down and do a section at a time. I work full time and live alone, I'm always to tired when I get home from work and do nothing. From now on, I'm going to make time slots before I sit down for the evening and get one small job done. Thank you Nikki, I feel like you're my life saviour today

Thank you for mentioning those of us with energy or other health barriers! The biggest help I've found has been keeping a small trash bag within reach. I also remind the kids at least once a day to go around and pick up their trash etc. I still sometimes end up with a pile of little trash bags by the door, but then once I'm feeling up to it I just have to take those out instead of filling up a kitchen trash bag (or three lol) with the piles of cans and wrappers I've been surrounded with for days or weeks.

Your calm and genuine love for what you do is beyond inspiring! The most important words I took to heart are for us not to look at the whole house as a whole project, but to start small in just one area and erase all the other areas from our minds..... I was picturing a literal eraser wiping out all the items and only zeroing in on the task at hand......not feeling unsuccessful for being unable to do it all, especially in one day, one hour or one minute! Thank you for this beautiful presentation and for your special, unique way of explaining the old motto of "take a big job and break it down into small manageable tasks"!!!

I find it helps if I keep certain things from getting overwhelming, and then when I have those things clean it tends to motivate me to do more. Keeping my kitchen clean makes the house instantly feel better and motivated me to do the rest, so I make it part of my routine to do a basic clean of tbe kitchen every day. Do all the dishes, wipe the counters and sweep.

This all is so true. Currently, I plan to not add much more in terms of furniture or decor pieces just to cut down on the extra cleaning it takes to maintain those items. Basically, I’m becoming more in line with minimalism. It feels so good to just have clean and neat spaces without every inch being take up.

Thanks for the great points about the different ways to look at our homes and the "dissatisfaction" that we may be feeling. I often find that the immediate reaction is to renovate, remodel, gut it out, when sometimes the solution is a lot simpler and sitting right in front of us, but it seems overwhelming and too much to take on, even though the bigger idea would be more. Starting small, decluttering, organising, rearranging furniture and items until it clicks and makes sense for us in our lives are all great points in how to make small changes that can really impact our homes and how we perceive them.

Thank you Nikki. I needed this. So much love to you. 🙏🏼 I just wanted to add: I have been a viewer for so many years my mother was not a very organized person and I never really learned how to be organized and thats how originally found your channel. I started watching before I think I was even an adult. I started watching before I was a wife. I started watching before I was a mother. All these different life stages and you have been there for me. Its so easy to lose track of “what works for your family” with new milestones or even setbacks. I need to “reorganize” for what what works for my family at this current time. My husband is in the service and we’re currently in South Korea and the layout of our apartment is not necessarily something I’m used to so I’ve just been lost thinking we needed to buy different organizers and such but really just need the home to be clean and not have everything everywhere. Its also harder now with a toddler to maintain the house but I know it doesn’t need to be picture perfect just safe and clean for my almost 2 year old ❤ thank you I know you dont have kids in the house but can you possibly share what worked for you when you had little ones in the house? I am so overwhelmed with all the laundry and so many things! This video really helped. Thank you. 🙏🏼

You can also start your little one with their own little jobs too. My sister started her sons with light dusting when they were 2 years old, and now they are older they know how to wash dishes and iron their own clothes etc. If you give your children chores from an early age, they just think it's normal because they don't know any different. Most mothers start far too late and that's when they get pushback from their children.

I like the idea of "extending the work day" once I get home. Maybe not be a full hour but surely I can do it for 15 minutes to start! My biggest issue is when life goes off the rails a little. I get to a point where I see I'm on a downward spiral and I completely give up! I can be doing OK for months and then *stupid crap* happens and I just fall apart... I go from tidy and clean (or clean enough for me) to living in an absolute chaotic, cluttered and dirty pigsty. 😭 I can't seem to get it together until I hit rock bottom again and have to spend weeks, if not months, getting back on track. Very Sysiphean 😕

I, for one, really appreciate that you said that we don't have to follow all the new trends in our home decorating. I admit to getting a little offended by decorating or organizing videos that tell you this or that is out of style. If I like it, it stays. I personally feel like the millenials that are getting rid of all their parents fine china will be regretting that decision in the next decade. I feel, like you, that if it makes you happy, then you should definitely hold on to it. Thank you for this sound advice.

I implement many of these things and have to say having a system that works for me for over a decade now has definitely helped and improved my home and life. I learned tackling one project at a time goes a long way to overall goals. I’m very tidy and a touch of OCD 😂 but I’ve gotten better over the years of letting go of the idea of perfection. I got a book over 15 yrs ago called Home Comforts- The Art & Science of Keeping House and it helped change my perspective and give me ideas. That was before the world of You Tube reigned and people now have all these wonderful videos to help. It’s finding the joy & gratitude in the little things. I’m so grateful to have a home to keep clean 💜.

Kitchen is area I need to declutter. It's very small. Not much space for the things I need. I will do my best to figure it out. I am great full I stopped buying "stuff" almost a couple years ago. Now is a matter of narrowing down the necessary things I need to keep,as in my dishes and cookware. I have a hutch or whatever it's called in my mouse size kitchen,oh how I need it moved to the building. I really love it I only paid $75 dollars for it. Then I will have to buy a food pantry, since it's currently in the hutch.

You for sharing this I enjoyed it you spoke of everything that I am going through at this time. My mom's been dead for three years. I've got years and years of her stuff piled up then I moved in that I had to bring some of my stuff which made twice as much stacked up packed up in tubs. But I have done nothing but deal with issues cancer heart attack my mom being in a nursing home. In my health issues with COPD and breathing issues. I cannot get no help. People that are willing to help want a fortune that I can't afford. And I can't get much help from my family. They're always got things their self they have to do.I have seem to get nothing done. Things are pretty much organized and in their place but they're in tubs and boxes stacked up. Some days I don't know which way to go.

Your tips are so true. Just now my biggest struggle is the communication. I'm an introvert and my com skills are almost zero. So I end up nagging, we quarrell, sulk, but except for bad mood there are no results.

Hi Nikki, I was watching Clutterbug and she told me ( a cricket) that we crickets would love your channel because you’re a cricket on steroids! Well as this is my first video, I can already tell you’re speaking my language. I’m going to watch every video you have. New subscriber here. Thanks for this video. It truly made sense to me. ❤

That was my recent decision that if I was to tackle anything then I really had to break it down. Get a vision first and start small like a shelf instead of the whole closet. And like Nikki said take a week to work on it. Thank you Nikki!

Just found you and 3 minutes in to this video, I already subscribed! I love your approach! My problem is hating my house coz it's ugly and needs redecorating. Plus I have two old Pugs who often piddle on the floor, so I'm constantly cleaning up after them and battling that odor. I communicate that displeasure to them, but Pugs don't listen. LOL

My home have to be cleaned and organized. It really annoys me when things are out of place...... even the pillows on the sofa have to be right. People say I have OCD......no I'm just that neat clean person. Clutter can clutter your brain and everything has to be organized. 💝💝

I think this was great video. I'm glad it didn't include anything like saging/smudging. Saging/Smudging (even though it's not new) seems to be the trend now-a-days and regarding cleaning/organizing one's home. This video was a breath of fresh air. Thanks.

You are so kind and your video was so motivational and inspiring. You talk about starting with small little projects and not that you have to jump in and throw everything out. That is one of the deterrents for people who feel overwhelmed. I feel like your goal is to help make people feel better about what they're doing, how they go about doing it and about feeling good about the decisions they make. And as someone with fibromyalgia, it takes longer which is why it takes so long to organize. And its hard not to beat ourselves up. Other "motivators" tend to come down hard on you, make you feel guilty about what you have and why you have it and I start to feel the anxiety geow within 2 minutes of the video. I dont feel that with you and i will be watching more videos. I have also ordered the cards. Thanks for all you do...... with a kind heart!!!❤

I'm so glad this was recommended to me. I've realized this week that I leave the house to feel recharged. And it's not just my current apartment, its everywhere I've lived. I'm excited to implement the advice you gave because I can't keep feeling this way. Edit: I've put your link on my calendar so if I'm still not organized by fall, I'm going to schedule a Zoom session. Thank you for offering that!
