The race you are about to see appear as originally broadcast and may contain imagery that is offensive and doesn't align with NASCAR's values. NASCAR has since permanently banned the display of the confederate flag at all events.

Ah! This was back in the classic track configuration of the Atlanta Motor Speedway, with its quarter-mile straights and half-mile turns. I miss that old track. There's a brief interview of Benny Parsons in this video @5:49, where even during his racing days, his charm with the camera was showing through. If you are wondering why the brief live telecast: Live 'flag-to-flag' coverage was still years away. In the 1970s, ABC-TV sports would televise some of the NASCAR races in the last half of the event. Reasons why brief telecasts? Money! If sponsors were willing to spend the dollars high-enough, ABC-TV and NASCAR could have been agreeable for 'flag-to-flag' coverage.

Boy oh boy I’d love to see those USAC TRENTON races in clouding the one mentioned on this broadcast. Hopefully….HOPEFULLY…the wonderful person that keeps posting virtually EVERY old nascar race….1. has ALL WWoS races….2. is a race fan first, nascar fan (close) second. THANK YOU and PLEASE HELP in getting ALL WWoS…and Car and Track if ya know how (plenty of great content missing there too!).

How in the world was David Pearson able to see that message board while driving around that track at whatever the top speed was at the time?

When you spend your Life at twice the speed of ordinary driving - 150mph+, your speed of perception also doubles with experience. That expression from accident-victims "Everything just slowed down" applies full time here. Respect

Jimmy Carter was there! He had secret service protection

I had to look it up but he didn't get secret service protection till 76. He is at the race but he has protection from the Georgia State Patrol/GBI. They would have been a bunch of "good ole' boys, never meaning no harm."
