Atlantic Fleet
Description
Turn based tactical and strategic naval combat. Atlantic Fleet puts you in command of the Allies or Kriegsmarine (German Navy) in the longest military campaign of WWII, The Battle of the Atlantic.
Take command of surface ships, submarines as well as carrier and land based aircraft in the deadly struggle for control of Atlantic shipping lanes.
Protect convoys as the Allies or go on the offensive with deadly submarine wolf packs and surface raiders of the German Navy.
Play through 30 historical Single Missions or make your own with the Custom Battle editor.
Take on 50 mission campaigns for each navy and build your own fleet.
Recreate the challenges of the Battle of the Atlantic as you play a Dynamic Campaign with limited resources, historical units, actual convoy routes and real world-based weather.

I don't know if you already knew this but after you have sunk all escorts, hit escape and you will have the option of sinking all merchant ships with the click of a mouse thus saving you from having to sink each merchant ship separately.

Taff, I was watching an older video of yours and in one of the episodes you stated that you still sink the merchant ships to get experience for your ships' crews. That makes sense. I hope though you would consider using the shortcut if you are in a sub and the merchant ships are really far away,

Great to see another Atlantic Fleet campaign! I’ll be interested to see if you can keep the war going until Pearl Harbor. Remember, once you’ve sunk all the escorts, you can select the “sink all merchants” option from the “?” button on the bottom left corner of the map view, which will save you time and ammunition.

Taff already knows it but he should use it sparingly as if he keeps using it on every convoy battle the campaign would end at 1940 or mid 41'.

What also makes this a bit weird is that Taff's going to need to find a way to limit sinking merchants if he wants to fight the USA.

Have there been instances during the war where all the escorts were sunk by the enemy and the merchant ships had to fend for themselves? As the captain of a merchant ship in such a situation what would you do, surrender immediately to possibly survive or risk do your best to deliver the cargo and probably get killed in the process?

A decent chunk of prisoners were taken on merchant ships.. In the British navy there were about 200.000 sailors working on merchant ships during wartime about 35.000 were killed in action a decent chunk by submarines most likely, while about 6.000 people were taken prisoner probably by warships.. Really depends if you encounter a warship or a submarine I imagine.. It is to dangerous for a submarine to guide a ship back to shore as it would have to surface making it vulnerable neither spacious enough to start taking prisoners aboard.. So they just sank most of what they encountered.. A warship might take surrendering crew prisoner and then destroy the ship or if distance allows it guide the merchant ship to shore, confiscate the cargo and ship and arrest the crew..

Taff, if you plan to fight the United States, you have to consistently sink 100,000 tons of merchant shipping a month, because sinking too little will result in an Allied Victory, and sinking too much could lead to an early Axis victory. Also, I wouldn't think having you're ships out and about in the Atlantic is a good idea, the ships you have are out at sea is what you have, with very little or any replacements. By the way you can instantly kill a convoy with no escorts, there's an option to do that if you forget.

Great difficulty settings, playing as the Kriegsmarine and choosing sunk enemy ships recycled by the enemy against the RN is the definition of masochism 😆In several of my campaigns, the "Sitzkrieg" lasted about 10 turns, no contact or battles.

Hi Taff, on Atlantic fleet does the type of ammunition you select affect the range as it does in real life?

I've been playing this game for years and with my experience HE shells make smaller ships like destroyers and cruisers go boom easily and AP makes battleships, carriers, etc of big ships go boom. I use AP on all since it's a guaranteed kill. But no it depends on your ship cause they both can be at the same range and either hit too high or too short.

You have to go back and choose fleet size of 30 you only chose 20 as fleet size

He’s got a 30 ship cap, the button is to select the lower fleet size.

There was scant little prize ship taking in WW2, especially in regards to supply shipping. It was just as effective and much more expedient to just sink them.
