Just a quick video showing some actual sailing! The weather today has been absolutely stunning both for sailing and for just being a human.
For those interesting, the sail shown in this video is a North Sails asymmetrical spinnaker made from Norlon 150 and 250 cloth. We will normally sail it off the longeron (fixed now sprit), but since the wind was dead behind us, we have the tack on the starboard bow.
The sail is 145 square meters and the colors we chose are white, blue and grey (which it turns it is very green).

Thanks. If you’re going to cross an ocean, you really can’t ask for better weather. This is called “the milk run “ by delivery skippers because this is pretty typical. So much better than the sail along the southern coast of S Africa. The whole southern and eastern coast of S. Africa are some of the worst sailing conditions

Thanks for the feedback. Definitely easier to throw together with just an iPhone. I think going forward we’ll try to do a mix of both. Suggestions for short videos? How to deploy sails, anchor, dinghy…?

@@OnANewTack All of the above. For longer vid's, instrument choices, why all 220v/50 cycle. How is the solar array and lithium bank working out? (enough for AC? etc) How are the high output alternators working out, how long to charge.... lot's of stuff like that would be very interesting.

Great video! How many square meters is your North Sails Asym? How is the snuffer (I assume standard NS one) working so far and are there any tweaks to it you would make?

I actually put this in the description , but don’t worry, I’m sure most people don’t read them. 145 square meters. The snuffer is the standard North Sails. Feels like foam inside the ring. It can be tricky to snuff due to the size. I think next time we’ll probably turn on the engines to make it a little easier. I don’t know of any tweaks yet, but it is early. I’ll post a follow up if we come up with any. Thanks for the comment.

Have you ever considered an Oxley Levante? Seems to me the best sail currently available..

We have one! We used it a lot too. When this picture was taken, the wind was a bit above what the Levante was rated for and the wind was at 165 degrees. It’s great though;very happy we have it. We are going to do a video shortly about how we are rigging the control lines with some extra blocks, etc. to make control easier.
