It was great - all four of the main supporting Kens from the movie came out on stage as a chorus line behind Ryan: - *Ncuti Gatwa* (star of the BBC television series Doctor Who), - *Simu Liu* (star of the Marvel Universe action-hero film Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), - *Kingsley Ben-Adir* (star of the 2024 film Bob Marley: One Love; also known for UK stage work and TV shows like Vera), and - *Scott Evans* (from US TV shows like One Life to Live and Grace and Frankie). Also, the song’s two composers - *Mark Ronson* on guitar and *Andrew Wyatt* at the piano - were there at the beginning. And *Wolfgang Van Halen* and *Slash* - who had done instrumentals for the film’s soundtrack, were there at the very end.

Well, it’s what professionals in the musical theatre do all the time, up to eight performances a week. Think of West End musicals, Broadway musicals, the Metropolitan Opera, and so on. But he went _beyond_ that. He managed to carry this off in the Dolby Theatre, which has over 3,000 seats including three balconies - it's two, three, or four times the size of a typical West End or Broadway theatre - knowing that millions were watching on TV. That's what made it so truly extraordinary!

@@mirapollo8706 it’s not just that! Broadway shows don’t have giant cameras all over the place getting in the way. Broadway shows get to tech for weeks. The core of a Broadway show is its stamina and efficiency. I’m also just imagining those poor people in the trailers backstage calling the show on the fly. The core of an awards show broadcast is “you get one shot at this and we know you had half the time you needed to prepare.”
@mirapollo8706
@mirapollo8706 9 күн бұрын
 @diegolucano3354 Yes, absolutely. The *Steadicam operators were effectively part* of the choreography, unseen, as were the spotters to guide them up and down the steps and indicate the edge of the stage so they wouldn’t fall off. The *very first shot as Ryan starts singing behind Margot and then continues* to Mark Ronson and Andrew Wyatt, and then onwards to the red steps, is a single shot all the way through, and the Steadicam operator was moving _backwards, up the steps_ in the middle of it. The same sort of thing was happening later. It was all *a single camera shot when we glimpsed the four main supporting Kens* from the film (Simu Liu, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, and Ncuti Gatwa), then saw Ryan with his arm across Slash’s shoulders, and finally were looking up towards them from the main floor of the audience. Towards the end of that single shot, the Steadicam operator was descending the steps, sideways. And then, of course, at the conclusion of the performance, *Ryan led the Steadicam operator Sean Flannery up the steps to bring him (and bring us, through the camera lens) to join him* on stage. On top of that, there was no opportunity for “previews” of the performance with a full audience, to tweak the details prior to an official opening as there would be in the West End or on Broadway. It was a performance that could never be repeated. It had to be absolutely right the first time. *In those four minutes, he captured lightning in a bottle.*

You know, this is precisely why Ryan Gosling is capturing so much admiration. It's hard to imagine another actor fully embodying this character the way he does. He effortlessly embraces unconventional aspects like wearing pink, empowering women, and showing genuine affection towards other men. It's not contrived; it's just Ryan being himself. He's truly remarkable, and that authenticity is what makes him so cool. Stay true to yourself, Ryan. Keep being the same incredible person you are.

He was involved in the original, too, I think. They is a "behind the scenes" version of the song, where he and Van Halen are in it, too.

Yes, they just brought onstage all guys who wrote the song originally, for the film. Try to find Mark Ronson's intervew about this process. The cool one.

He has all the same training and background as Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera & J.C. Chasez. They were all castmates on the early 90s version of the Mickey Mouse Club on the Disney channel.

GPT says it well The general theme of the song seems to be about feeling undervalued, overlooked, and misunderstood despite efforts to be noticed and appreciated. It touches on themes of self-doubt, insecurity, and the desire for genuine connection and recognition. The lyrics also explore the idea of societal expectations of masculinity and physical appearance, as well as the longing for authentic love and acceptance.
