Thanks for sharing. Would've been nice to see how dark it was prior to you walking with dog. Also maybe a before and after under a tarp or object.

Day or night makes no difference, thermal is all about temperature difference. If the ground is 98.6 degrees F, a person will virtually disappear even in broad daylight on a thermal scope. As for the tarp, if there's no thermal transfer (IE if they're not touching the tarp at all) it would be impossible to see them.

I love night vision for the super power of seeing at night but thermal definitely has its advantages I am currently working on getting the ce5 coti with the standalone piece for it so I have the best of both worlds

how did you like it? how far can you identify

I've had this exact model since ATN put 'em on sale before Christmas. I'm not so sure the human "detection-850, recognition-425, and identification-210" estimates listed on their site are accurate. I have a feeder set up 125 meters from my back porch. I go out just about every night to observe the feeder. I can obviously identify deer by movement at that distance, but I don't think I could accurately judge between does and bucks. This is at 1x magnification BTW.

How do you think it compares to the FLIR ocean scout? Price currently is about the same. Kinda like the idea of the zoom and the lower 2.5 power.
@IdahoLife

I don't have any experience with the ocean scout, and I agree on having a lower power. I wish I could lower this one down to 1x or close to it.

How do you record from the screen by camera? Do you use any adaptor?
@IdahoLife

Recording is handled internally, simply by pushing a button on the device and then downloaded later.

Seems to be as advertised...I tend to use it then turn it off, haven't had it die on me yet during a coyote hunt or otherwise! Still happy with the purchase.

What would you say is the ID range of a human sized object? Could I pick a human out 200-300 yards out?
@IdahoLife
@IdahoLife Жыл бұрын
Although I haven't tried it, my gut says absolutely. At 2.5x (to start), I don't see why it wouldn't pick up such a large target. Of course, that's assuming theres a wide temperature spread between the human target and surrounding/ambient temperature. If it's 100 degrees F out, your target is gonna pretty much disappear no matter how close it is.

That far out, these lower cost thermals can “aquire” an objet. Acquisition means you see something giving off a heat signature, but unless it’s a object you’re used to seeing, it is very hard to identify at that range. “Identification” range with this unit and even a 384 with a 25, or 35mm objective lens is around 100 yards, or less. Identification is when you can clearly make out what an object is. A 50mm lens is really the best when looking at lower cost thermals, but they are on the high end around upper $1,000’s range

Yes. ATN's site says the 2.5-10x is 25mm. Their 2-8x is 19mm.
