Stefan presents the new Atomos Ninja Flame with the AtomHDR proprietary image processing. Developed by Atomos.
Ninja Flame overcomes the display challenges of shooting Log, displaying the full brightness range on a field monitor for the first time, with true-to-life vibrant colors. It has a 7” 10-bit 1500nit panel with the AtomHDR engine and HDMI connections to record and playback video to 4K/HD 10-bit ProRes/DNxHR.

Hi. Ive searched everywhere but i cant get the answer. Do this products support input 4k and record 1080p prores. This means 4k footage downscaled to 1080p. Im using samsung nx1 and planing to buy two of this unit. My concern for 1080p downscaled is because of easy delivery for my editor, sharp and more detail footage from 4k downscaled.

Perfect video, just bought one! Quick question: the shop provide me with atomos cable ATOMCAB013, will I be able to see the HDR function on the monitor? Can I use this cable to record 4K? (I haven't open the cable pack, so I can return it).

Vlasis Rafailidis thanks. 4K is not the problem. Some cables had a problem with 4K 10bit 50p from a GH5. You have to try it. Cheers

Thanks for the video. Just bought the atoms ninja flame. Ive been playing with the settings for a few days trying to figure out how to do Time-lapse and can't seem to work it out. What are the correct settings on a GH4 to be able to get a Time-lapse to work? Ive asked atoms but can't get a straight answer from them.

+John Power hi, was meinst du bitte mit „HDR Einstellungen sind weg“? Ich habe es doch auch beschrieben, dass der Ninja Flame die Dynamik mittels HDR anzeigt. Aber es wird das Log Signal aufgenommen. Grading dann später in der Post! HDR ist kein LUT !!! Cheers

Hi Hari, in this case the Ninja is a very good monitor. And a preview of a HDR immage is very need. But the RED delivers only HD over SDI. So in this case its a good previewing but not a good recorder.

I'm running a c100mkii and looking to get an external recorder. Atomos has a lot to choose from. But going by what the website says, they recommend the ninja blade or the flame. I'm stuck between both, I'm leaning more towards the flame, but seems like it's a bit big and I'm afraid it might be heavy. Any advice would be appreciated, thank you

Thank you for this informative video, Stefan. Have you tried the Shogun Flame and Ninja Flame with GH4 using 10 bit 4:2:2 4K output of the GH4?

+KingofShock not jet. The best visual result with the Ninja Flame you will get wit a GH4 and V-Log. But I will try it when I get my hands on a GH4+V-Log ;-)

Hi Luan, hard to say. Sometime 1,5h...and sometime 40min. If you use it only as a monitor it will be longer. Cheers

Can the Shogun record RAW from the Ursa 4/4.6k ? @ either 2k(4.6) or 4k ? Meaning would this device serve as a workaround from using the CFast cards...

no, but there is a device out there that lets you record onto SSD whith an ursa mini, I forget the name though (try googling it)

When you are selecting the different monitor or assists when you select HDR will that be recorded on to the SSD the way you see it or is that just for viewing purposes to capture the best image possible while you are viewing

+raztechstudios ..this is only visable at the Ninja Flame screen. Its not a Lut applied. This is a monitor feature. It shows how it can be look after grading. Cheers Stefan

A couple of questions I could not find an answer for anywhere else: Is this compatible with older cinema cameras such as the Sony PMW F3? The F3 only has S-Log. The other question is: Can it accept a 3GSDI input? My Sony F3 has the RGB 444 update.

+QuantumVoid ...yes, every Log signal will let you work with the HDR mode. And the Ninja Flame is HDMI only but the Shogun Flame works with SDI and HDMI. Recording on SSD with ProRes 4:2:2 10bit. Cheers Stefan

+Stefan Czech Thanks for that, I think the Shogun Flame is a better choice for me. Hopefully you can also record straight from the CineGammas in the F3 without using SLOG. I want to compare CineGamma and SLOG and see for myself which one is better.

I HAVE A QUESTION can i use the ninja flame for all the functions that the current ninja assassin has or is this an entire new product because i am going to buy the ninja assassin but i want this because it many new features wondering are all these new features added on top of what the assassin has

+EasttSideCustomZ z ...hi, th new Ninja Flame is a repleacement for the Ninja Assassin. If you wnat to buy a Ninja Ass. and wait 2-3 weeks, you will get the Flame. If you want to buy a Ass. you get it for less money but the Flame comes with the big case, adapter, sunhood etc.etc. Flame vs. Ass: AtomHDR, dual batteryslott, balance headphone output, 1500 vs. 400 nit brightness, lot of extra in the box. Hello Stefan, great job and very informational video. I am filming mostly HD video with a Canon 5D Mark IV and am debating on getting a Ninja 2 or Blade. Are there advantages to upgrading to the Ninja Flame? I am mainly wanting to avoid recording in Canon's h264 codec and 4:2:0. From what I've read, these ninja recorders can upgrade Canon's 8bit to 10bit 4:2:2, which I imagine is better for broadcast TV commercials.

Hi BM, thanks. yes there are some advantages in the new Flame series. Check out my film and there is more than only the recording option. To get a very good preview of your shots is important. I use my Atomos in every shot, but not mainly for the recording but the camera tools. ANd the Flame hat the best screen you can ask for

Thank you, sir! I've learned the hard way that relying on the 5DM4's screen is not optimal. Besides, I can probably use the flame to capture pro-res 4K when the GH5 comes out, right? I was on the phone with CanonUSA and I casually asked them about compatibility with the Ninja Flame and he said yes, but that the ninja would probably only be able to capture 4:2:0 at 8bit. is that true? or based on your experience, will it capture 10bit 4:2:2 in prores?

BravoMedia1 hi, that's wrong. The Canon 5D 3 deliver 8bit. 4:2:2 over HDMI. It would be a mistake not to give the 5D4 the same tech. But many technical people didn't know much outside there world. Yes, it's a very good option for upcoming GH5

+David Schneider Hallo, es ist etwas schwierig, wenn man alleine unterwegs ist und die Schärfe nicht nachziehen kann. Autofocus z.B: an der C100MK2 arbeitet recht gut. Solange das Objekt genau in der Mitte ist. Bei großen Produktionen hat man einen Assi der die Schärfe per Funk zieht. Toxu hat in seinem Kommentar schon einen guten Tip abgegeben. Etwas höher Blende und vorallem kurze Brennweite. Eigentlich gehört Ihr Kommentar wohl eher zu meinem Glidecam Training oder dem Vergleich zwischen DJI Ronin und Glidecam?! ;-)

hi! Just a question from a noob on video world. What's the point on having a good quality on a screen (ninja flame) if you're not recording the actual image you see it from that screen? I'm asking this cause I have a a7s ii that records 8 bit and someone told me that with this monitor you wouldn't get an actual 10 bit footage. So the image that we see on the screen is NOT what we get on the footage. so my question is why do we need this screen instead of a normal screen for lot less money? Thanks for your patience. SIMONE

Hi Simon, I dont get your question? Of cause you get the same quality recorded what you see on screen. But LOG is not nice in the firts place. And 10bit / 8bit ist also much more technical than to explain in two words. The Atomos is a very, very usefull tool. If you become more familia with the "video world" you will understand that for sure

I bought the ninja flame thought it was an amazing piece of work. Which it is. But it's very limited to the camera settings that are on the camera that is connected to it. For example if your camera only shoots 1080p 30fps then that's all your gonna get recording with ninja. Maybe people are aware of this I'm not sure but I didn't know about this. . I knew that if I did not have a 4K camera connected I could not record 4K on the ninja that makes sense, but what I didn't know was that I could not record any higher frame rate then my camera settings would allow which kind of sucks. Would have been nice to record 120fps but I guess it doesn't work like that with a camera that only shoot 30fps Max

If your sensor is not able to capture 4k video how should a monitor than record that? They have a long list on their Webpage featuring all supported cameras and what they are able to record with which camera...

+ReFrame Production I agree I know about the I did state that in my previous comment that I know if the camera is only 1080 that's all the external can record if the camera is 4K then the external can record. What I am mainly referring to is the FPS if the camera internal can only shoot 30fps why can't the ninja record 60 or 120fps if it can.

Hi, sorry for the missunderstanding...! But its a kind of logic; if the cameracant record hfps, the camera did´n´t deliver hfps over HDMI, right?!. How the recorder after the camera can capture higher frame rate??? Makes sense? The same with higher resolution Cheers

Even tough if you have a Camera that can shoot 120 fps like sony a7sii you need to check how much your hdmi output is I am not sure about that but i heard that the hdmi output is only on 60 fps so you can just record 60 but maybe it can show you the 120 fps but than you would need to record internally.... It's not so easy sometimes =)

+Stefan Czech Yes I see now. It does make sense. I guess I didn't look into it that much when I was researching. So without having a good camera with nice specs then the ninja is just nice monitor in the end. It's nice also to be able to record in certain codec and bit rate but Atomos should make it clear that Atomos recorder is only as good as the camera connected. Thanks for your input Stefan.
