How is it possible for a can to change into a brand new one? The secret is in the properties of aluminum.

Did you know that over 97% of all cans we consume are made from recycled material?
And that aluminum is one of the most abundant non-ferrous metals in the world?
The advantage of aluminum is that it can be recycled several times without affecting its properties.
Brazil is world champion in aluminum recycling.
It all starts with collecting the cans. These cans are separated from impurities, thrown into the press and baled before being sent to the foundry.
The smelting furnace is about 700 degrees Celsius, and this high temperature transforms solid aluminum into a liquid state.
The material flows through a series of mats
Inside the oven are some remains of other materials that made up the aluminum cans. They are removed at each burning.
Still in a liquid state, the aluminum is poured into molds in the shape of an ingot.
Moving slowly along the conveyor belt, the aluminum becomes solid, making it easier to transport.
Still hot, the material is stacked using a robotic arm.
The material still goes through one more stage before the can factory. The sheet needs to go through a process known as lamination.
In rolling, the aluminum is heated and placed on a table with sliding rollers until it reaches the rolling rollers.
We can see that the part is transformed with a certain thickness, width and length, into another part with the same width, a smaller thickness and a greater length.
The result is a jumbo coil with aluminum in the thickness and width desired by the can manufacturer.
A little explanation of how the can is made is worth it.
First, the plate is cut into this round shape, which makes up the body of the can.
The round flat iron, represented by the yellow color in the drawing, is stuck in between two cylinders. A press is activated, and the plate is in the shape of a small cup.
The cup goes through another series of cylinders, increasing its height and decreasing its diameter. Aluminum is so malleable that its formation is relatively simple.
You can see that the thickness of the wall decreases and the material compensates for its height.
The cups are transported by the conveyor. What holds the cups is the suction of compressed air.
The cans still go through a trimmer, washing with sulfuric acid, soap and water, drying, printing the label, varnished and tested.
