Saw your post on the forum - great video! I went through ATP in 2013 at JAX with 0 time and now I've been a Southwest a year and a half. It gets you where you want to be, that's for sure. But seriously - very well laid out video. This will be super useful for folks doing research. Good luck to you!

Thank you so much Jordan! Damn, back in 2013, flight schools were much more affordable 😂. That's amazing that you are now at Southwest though. That seems to be the main goal for a lot of prospective airline pilots. I am so excited to get back into this industry, but from the pilot's seat! Thanks again!

@@yamkaw346 Yes - I believe the only *major* airlines that actually furloughed were American and Allegiant (might be a few others, but most did not)

You are an extremely knowledgeable and astute young man. Andy, your attention to detail as well as perfection is insane. This video, is so well organized and thought out, that you're going to give Ryan Huber a run for his money. As a dad to two sons that are student pilots (non-atp), I can tell that you are going to make one hell of a fantastic pilot. You are one sharp dude. Your parents should be super proud! I've subscribed, and hope you keep making progress videos of your training when you can. As you add more content, you can monetize these things and have extra $$$ on the side. @@AndyPateVlogs Good on you man. If you want lessons in monetizing KZfaq, just look to Swayne Martin, Ryan Huber, and Juan Browne. These guys got it going on. The first two are youtube stars and started right where you are at right now. Best of luck, looking forward to your experience in pilot training!

Of course! Personal expenses will make up about 20% of your total school cost, so if there is a chance for you to reduce those expenses in any way, go for it. Consider this though; flight school is expensive, so really break down your numbers. I've met students who were able to save a lot of money by going to a flight school that wasn't where they already live. Moving ended up saving them money. Not always, but sometimes, so it's important for each person to really know their numbers. I ended up choosing Blue Line because I have family I can live with and they were 3-4 months shorter than ATP (which equates to 3-4 months of additional expenses I wouldn't have to pay for).

I did not. A degree really isn't needed, but it does give a competitive advantage when being hired.

Flight school, without a doubt. They removed the college degree requirement at the airlines, so get through flight school, get into a paid position as a pilot, and then consider a degree (if you want) while you’re working on building your hours or your seniority.

@@StrictlySports You’d most likely have to do online classes. It depends on who you work for and how often they have you flying. If you’re not flying often, then you can still even do physical classes. I went through Blue Line and highly recommend them.

You don't need a college degree here? And you need a class a medical exam?

No you don’t need a college degree to go through flight school. If you intend to be an airline pilot, it’s recommended you obtain a 1st class medical before starting flight school because it’s a requirement for airlines. It would suck to spend all that money and time just to find out you don’t medically qualify for the airlines.
