Grew up in Detroit but lived in Atlanta for around 6 years. I've heard of most of the terms (not cattywampus though) but had no idea what half of them meant. Surprised that Isner hadn't even heard of one of them!

@@hillsonn Texan here - we don't often say 'that dog'll hunt'. Usually we say 'that dog WON'T hunt' and often as an insult. I've heard cattywumpus, but don't really use it. No coming up a cloud. We do say 'cloud up and storm' if someone becomes upset and throws a fit, or if things go very wrong.

Norrie’s reaction to “when the cows come home” 😂
@piratesswoop725
@piratesswoop725 Жыл бұрын
John’s definition for til the cows come home isn’t exactly right. It means doing something over and over but specifically, with no effect at all or that it’s pointless. Like, he’s going to keep netting those overhead smashed til the cows come home. Keep doing it with no change.

@jasonraff7232

I think it's closer to meaning "A long time passing.". But it's usually used in conjunction with something you might repeat. So, you could say something like "You can keep saying the ball was in till the cows come home, but my call is out." I'm from the NE and of course I've heard it, but I don't think I've ever said it.
