Severe community-acquired pneumonia (SCAP) is a major concern worldwide as it is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. The increasing incidence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) pathogens has further complicated the management of this disease including areas with limited resources. MDR pathogens limit available treatment options and lead to poorer clinical outcomes. The Global Burden of Disease estimated that 4.95 million deaths were associated with MDR pathogens in 2019. The incidence and prevalence of MDR organisms varies according to the region of the world including countries in Latin America.
