>2K years No. You overlook the details, friend. Zeke said years went by in the time between the decapitated head touching his hand and Eren being remade (waking up). That ALONE was years, but on the outside not even a second had transpired. If low-balling to just a year per second of that two millennia we're looking at fivefold the duration of our known universe. She's been building dirt sculptures for an eternity before waking up in a rage.

@@BigVEE Yes. And Eren says that they walked for years in his fathers memories. If I remember correctly when Zeke's body is rebuilt he says that it also felt like years have passed. Considering that Ymir has to make the titans out of "sand" while it only takes like a few seconds for an Eldian to transform, the actual time she spent in there is probably absurdly high.
@BigVEE
@BigVEE 2 жыл бұрын
@@pepeedge5601 Indeed. 1 years as a second was just a (serious) low-ball to give some small notion of what we're looking at here. What you describe could just all be in 'Paths' time, but could even be more absurd as a 'pocket within a pocket' if the time taken in the memories is something occurring at a rate even slower, but nothing supports that (as such, we just take it for more of the same). Really, the time itself may not be at a fixed rate at all. Is she just dicking around doing nothing most of the time in some arbitrarily slow place? If she were 'contracted' to build tens of millions of colossals all at once to appear instantly here, you would expect delay to eventually factor. It doesn't. The more jobs she gets, the slower things get in Paths, I would suggest (else we would see her overtaxed and needing some 'loading' before completing a project at some point). Just a little girl in the wastes not using magical flight or telekinesis to more easily construct these things. Even her ramps are things she would have to build before she could make a single big boy. Apparently she deconstructs those structures when she finishes, too. It is curious how she could make iron from nothing instantly to bind in this place. Is there an element of punishment to the construction preventing her from just doing the same? Anyway, she only has her hands and a bucket. Even just one colossal should take many, many years to be built this way by her yet she can make tens of millions all at once just poof into existence within a few seconds for our time. To me, this gives the impression Paths isn't just slow, but scaling with her labor as needed. Might not be a fixed rate to begin with. It very well could be as slow as it needs to be (which becomes plot).

Ymir having her eyes shaded over can be interpreted in many ways and you even touched on some of those in your discussion. One of my personal favorite interpretations is that Isayama gave her minimal facial features because we, the audience, always thought of Ymir and her powers as pretty much just a plot device to be in service of the characters' powers, a god or something beyond understanding. But after revealing her story you finally get to see her for what she is, just a person.

When that scene came up in the manga my friend had the theory that when she was alive Ymir could only turn into titan when Fritz was asking something or pointing a goal, like the power couldn't work without Fritz, which is why she couldn't escape him despite that power. He based this theory on Eren training from Season 1. In order to turn into a titan Eren needed to bleed and to have a clear purpose before turning, like catching a spoon, Killing the titans inside the wall or Killing Annie. But Ymir had no goal of her own she lived for other and was a slave unlike Eren she couldn't turn by herself because she couldn't have clear purpose before and what happened after didn't help.

Eren's genocidal Rumbling is very much in line with the development of his character. In season one he literally said "I will destroy the world". Levi described him as a monster who can't be controlled. He brutally killed two people as a child without a second thought or a hint of remorse (yes in self-defense but that isn't mentally healthy behavior for a kid to display). And of course there's the season 3 finale where after seeing his future and realizing that what will happen was always going to happen, he entertains the idea of destroying the world because he knows he already has Remember he told Reiner back in season 4 part 1 that "we are the same". By that he meant both he and Reiner are traumatized and oppressed individuals who, for selfish reasons, are willing to kill thousands of innocent people to achieve their goals. Reiner wanted to be a hero and Eren wanted to wipe the world clean, making it resemble the world he had seen in Armin's books as a child - because Eren has a childish notion of freedom. Like yes he is also protecting Paradis and his friends but those are secondary motivations for the genocide he's about to try commit.

Yup! I just wanted to add to this comment. This show hammers down to us audience the effects of war and the never ending cycle of violence that comes with it. Sasha killed some guards that Gabi was close with, in turn Gabi shot Sasha. Nicolo then tries to kill Gabi when he finds out Gabi killed Sasha and so on and so forth. Eren also experienced the cycle when his mom died because of Reiner and the others when they were ordered to infiltrate by Marley. Eren wants to stop this cycle much like Zeke but he factors in the survival of his friends unlike Zeke who wanted all Eldians to not bear children which will kill their race overtime. Eren is literally choosing genocide just so that his friends would live and so that no one else would retaliate and take on revenge by killing his friends because the only people that would be left is the people in the Island.

The moment they showed Eren's childhood murder we knew he wasn't yet another Shonen protogonist with a golden heart. It's not the fact that he killed, but he killed without remorse. That alone displayed deep psycopathic behaviour. From then on, his every action could be interpreted in an ominous way.

Eren has always had the belief that some people are "dangerous animals that just happen to look like people". To him, they were the same as titans. Eren isn't a psychopath because he's capable of genuinely caring about people, even if it gives him nothing in return. Also, y'all might want to check back on the Season 2 Ending, after this episode. The visuals might hit different. The craziest part is that this Ending aired _before_ the content of this episode was even released in the manga. Isayama hiding manga spoilers in the anime.
@winshifter
@winshifter 2 жыл бұрын
Except Endings 1 and 5, all others have something spoilery. Ending 2 tells you basically who are the titans from the other side of the wall (Reiner, Berthold, Annie, Ymir) and someone who has relation to them (Historia). It also shows you a hint of the wall titans. Ending 3 is the most spoilery. It shows Ymir getting in contact with the devil of the world (the story told by Grisha's father), it shows the founding titan fighting an army (shown in this episode), it shows the exodus of Eldians to Paradise Island (as told by Willy Tybur), it also shows a rough version of the Rumbling. Ending 4 basically tells Historia's backstory in the same season it is told but omits parts and also shows you Freida. Ending 6...that has spoilers of final season part 3 and a little bit of part 2. Ending 7...it kind of spoils the ending of the series. Because of this ending, a lot of theory crafting about the anime having a different ending from the manga have surfaced, but honestly, the anime so far has followed kind of religiously the manga, if any just moved some parts from shown order, but they have shown everything pretty much as in the manga.
@naghar9827

Willy Tybur had the support of a worldwide coalition, with their representatives gathered on Liberio, when he declared war on Paradis Island. So to Eren, the entire world is an enemy, the same as Marley. And if he only took out the soldiers, but left the civilians alone, many would want to take revenge. The soldiers aren't isolated, faceless persons, they have families and friends outside the military. Not saying Eren is right or justified, just explaining the likely rationale for his declaration.

Eren witnessed the Eldian sympathisers in Marley shun and demonise his people on Paradis when they didn't even know them, he saw the holocaust conditions the Marley forced Eldians to live in, Eren then finally saw Willy and Marley declare war on the island on behalf of the world without even considering negotiating. Paradis tried to reach out for peace at the start of season 4 but it was rejected. It's almost like the world wanted them to be the demons they believed they were, to have something to united against. In Eren's mind he did what he felt was right, that he and his people will never truly be free if the island isn't safe and if wiping out the world ensures that then so be it. Eren has reached the alpha chad level of being done with it, start over. If I was in Erens position I would have done the same, fuck everyone else, they had numerous chances. I'd turn the world into a scorching cinder if it meant my family and loved ones were safe.

I always theorized that Ymir’s Titan powers work a little differently than the Titan Shifters of the modern day. She was “built different” in a sense lol. Titan healing only happens because Ymir is constantly reforming and building their human and Titan bodies. That’s the source of their regeneration. But back in the day Ymir had no one to “rebuild” her. I don’t think she had any capacity to heal beyond that of an ordinary human. Thus her death from the spear.

Shouldn’t really think of the 9 titans as their own individual powers so much as they are all characteristics of the founding titan, Ymir’s titan was colossal, it was armored, it had a female shape, it could manipulate hardening. After she was eaten those powers were split by 3 and again later down the generational line until we ended up with the 9

Why on earth people said to them to watch the opening that spoils the rumbling before the rumbling happens? And also the Ymir alien thing and the new Eren's titan form appears in the opening and they didn't see it yet. The rumbling happens out of nowhere and even though we tend to think it will happen anyway, we don't know it happens so early.

so for 2000 years shes been doing that... BUT you also have to multiply the amount of time because in the paths the time is like... INSANELY warped. for example, the amount of time eren and Zeke were in there was a few years... but it was only a second in the real world. So.... how many seconds are in a year? that number times 2000, thats how many years.

Now we've finally seen the true history. It was a mix of both Eldian and Marleyan truth. Ymir did build stuff, but she also destroyed and crushed a lot of things and people too. And her descendants then did the same as well. Time to play devil's advocate for a bit. A lot of people always seem to think the Marleyan-Eldian conflict happened 2000 years ago. While yes, that is correct that it began 2000 years ago, it only ended recently, about a hundred years ago. Meaning the Eldians basically subjugated and destroyed the world for 1900 years. The Marleyans who currently are alive probably had Grandparents or Great-Grandparents who were subject to the Eldian Empire. And the stories of fear and hatred were passed down. Which is why the world hates Eldians. In war, things usually end with both parties coming to an agreement to not cause further destruction. But Karl Fritz didn't do that. He decided he didn't want to be that guy and his response to his people causing 1900 years of suffering was basically, "Sorry about all that. Promise we won't do it again." But he also threatened them with the Rumbling, pushing that same fear and rage onto future generations, running from the conflict and wiping people's memories. Some people like to sit on a moral high horse, but if someone tormented your family, friends, and everyone you knew for 2000 years throughout multiple generations, and their only response was saying sorry, you probably wouldn't be like, "Oh. They were just in a silly goofy mood". That doesn't mean treating Eldia like how they were treated is right. And doing what happened to them to the rest of the world also isn't right. But the show brings up a few interesting themes. And one of those is becoming like your enemy. Hange noticed that she and the Government were becoming exactly like the same people they fought so hard to take down 4 years ago. People mistreat Marleyans and treat them like servants on the Island. Pixis notices that Yelena and the Jaegerists are putting armbands on people and isolating them like Marley did. And Marley became what Eldia once was. So the question arises. If you're so determined to defeat your enemy that you lose yourself and become exactly like them, do you still consider that to be a victory?

2000 years in real life. The time in the Paths is relative. Centuries can pass and it's only a second in real world. Zeke said it himself: "every time Subjects of Ymir seek titan power she spends untold years building titans" Fritz was a jerk. Subjects of Ymir don't deserve being called "Eldians" 1) not every Subject of Ymir is an Eldian (Ymir herself most likely wasn't Eldian at all) 2) it's Ymir's power. Eldia just stole it
