I don't think he's a child of evil, I just feel he's been pushed so far beyond the breaking point, he wants to protect the people who are like family to him. Could he go about this different, sure, but in his situation, people are going to keep attacking his home and take their freedom. He's fighting for his people, so they can be free. That's what I see when I look beyond his dark intentions of mass destruction. I think he's scared, scared for his friends, scared for his freedom.

I think a lot of people commenting about how he's not really evil seem to be missing something pretty crucial to his character revealed in the special. We understand why he's doing it, but he would have done it anyway. Even if there was another way I think he still would have done it or at least still wanted to. This isn't just about saving the island, he says so himself. He was disappointed that humanity existed outside the walls, he is killing millions and yet he is overjoyed now. He talks to Armin saying that this is the freedom they had always been looking for. He's aware of the monster he's become, but he won't stop, he can't, and deep down he doesn't want to either.

This song needs to be put in a Museum for future generations to study and revere
