For anyone interested, there's a movie called 'Everest' released years ago based on the 1996 Mt Everest disaster. It's a solid flick with a stacked cast. And it shows you how passionate one must be to be ready to hike the summit. Nothing but huge respect to those summit-ers.

JP thinks he had a significant genuine interaction with the local shopkeeper but the local dude was just happy he managed to get JP to buy something.

Lol can tell JP is the type of person that thinks he “immersed with local culture” and travels “off the beaten path”.

Nepali fan here, not everyone but most of us do enjoy having a nice conversation with our guest who visits from exotic places. 1 purchase is not that significant lol maybe that guy did enjoy the connection with JP lah.

Hey JP if you wanted to step out of your comfort zone and have a mind-blowing experience, why not immerse yourself fully in the experience and nature without the helicopter/ wifi. Arriving at base camp is one thing but completing the trek after arriving at a "high" is what tests your endurance. Descending a mountain can sometimes be more difficult than ascending for some people. With the "moment of glory" behind you, coming back down requires a lot of motivation.

I did not go for EBC but the "easiest" hike to Poonhill. It was definitely a huge challenge and I just went without any training. EBC will be maybe 10 times tougher than this. Nepal was one of the best countries I've travelled to. Friendly and helpful people. I loved that trip. Hope to go again and maybe go for another hike :) Nepal

Slow and steady wins the race in this kind of high attitude treks. Oft it's the fit ones one over exert by walking too fast that get bad attitude sickness. Catching a cold or food poisoning would also weaken one's tolerance level too.

Erm, you're barking up the wrong tree. This is just base camp where the logistics is still manageable. It's those who go for the summits whom you should be barking at, as it's a logistical nightmare to bring anything in and out from there - especially when bagging out one's trash is not strictly enforced. If you're peeved even about base camp treks, then it should apply to any nature spot. But that view also lacks nuance, as commercial trekking, when managed well, can benefit local communities whilst having minimal negative impact to nature.
