Attempting To Tow My ATV With My Offroad Ford Escape

In this video I put the small tires back onto Spirit the Ford Escape to test it's towing abilities with my Honda Pioneer 500 ATV. It tows surprisingly well!

For a few years I'm dreaming of a 2010-12 Escape with navigation package. Somehow it makes me happy to drive them. There is something about these 2nd gen Escapes. ❤

I agree, I got mine 2 years ago, 2010 V6 Limited with flex fuel. Not only do I get cheaper gas, I get more HP! Love this lil SUV

Remember turn off O/D in gear selector, your transmission going to appreciate that… Always turn off the over drive towing and running up/down hills….

Yes, not nearly enough rust on the hitch yet to tow without the pin.

TFS, so helpful! Can you list every single item used? I have the same car, as trying to surprise my husband with a golf cart & will have to pick up. I don’t even have the silver part that attaches to the escape to haul, what is it called? I’m a novice, obviously. Thank you in advance!

Man, I'm super surprised because I didn't know any Escape could pull that much. But ya I also have a hitch I put on my XLT Escape so I might do some tests as well. But I would probably never tow an ATV since I live in Colorado and it would be extremely hard to tow up mountains.

Hills are certainly a challenge for the Escape when towing. We don't have very steep hills in Michigan though, and I put the factory wheels and tires on when towing, and it does okay. For longer distances I usually tow with my F-150.

Do you mean the wiring for the trailer lights? The factory wiring includes wires for trailer lights, but if yours didn't come with a towing package (mine did not have that package) the wires just stop at a connector behind the rear bumper. I'll get out there someday soon and make a video showing how to add a the trailer connection pig tail.

Is it the 3.0 L V6 Escape? Also, what year is it? :)

It is a 2008 3.0L V6.

Do you think the escape would be able to haul a trailer with a sedan on it?

I bet that it COULD, but not safely. Even towing the ATV, which totaled about 2500 pounds, it took everything the Escape had to maintain highway speeds up relatively small hills.

You think I could hook up my 19 foot bayliner? Boat and trailer prob pushing 5000. Just going across town though. Same escape just 2010 model Nice video man!

5000 lbs is more than Escapes are rated to tow. Would not recommend.

There is a park pin/pawl , no need to press on the brakes

Loading a trailer when just in park is really hard on the engine and transmission mounts. Using the parking brake is easier on everything and adds a layer of safety.

You haven’t ever tried the parking brake??? Lol even on flat ground before I ever put any vehicle in park I apply the “parking” brake lol. WTH … if not you get the loud clang coming out of park

In Michigan the parking brake cables are known to rust on aging vehicles, so if you set the parking brake it might not release. The parking pawl in the transmission holds the vehicle in place just fine.

Ik this vid is old but i hate towing with a single axle i bet a double axle would be alot smoother

That trailer actually pulls really well behind the Escape or my F-150. Even going 80+ mph downhill on the freeway it was super smooth towing. The Escape just doesn't have enough power to pull it through hilly areas.

@@PaintedSpringsGarage hell yea glad you got a good one cause the one i used i didnt like the feel of it every time i used i could really feel it and im just wtf i dont put much on it and i just never like single axle after that i always to but i will take your word for it tho if i pulled yours and it was better i would deff buy that brand for sure
