Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Great Adventure, Six Flags Great America, Six Flags Fiesta Texas, Six Flags Over Texas, Six Flags Over Georgia, Six Flags St Louis, Six Flags New England, Six Flags America, and Six Flags Mexico. All amusement parks and theme parks in danger of closing due to poor management from the Six Flags CEO and corporate. After reporting their Q2 Six Flags 2023 earnings report, Six Flags stockholders have been shell shocked and the future of Six Flags looks dim. What will become of all the best roller coasters in the world that the Six Flags parks have assembled? Will 6 Flags survive or will the Six Flags 2023 season be one of their last?

If Six flags wants more visitors they need to work on presentation. Clean parks. Costumed characters. Friendly staff. Immersive environments. People want to be lost in a fantasy not feel like they are wondering the AC boardwalk.

@@BackSeatJunkie I would have to judge that by the price of a charge parking lot, by distance from the location etc We have $20 lots near the beach and IDK the prices in the city. One thing you didn't bring up was the loss of the dining pass and parking pass. That's one of the biggest reasons they lost 50% of season pass holders.
@lancedawalga4268
@lancedawalga4268 11 ай бұрын
Actually the parking passes probably didn't play much of a role in it as the parking passes weren't done away with, they simply re-did the pass holder /membership system and made the parking pass applicable to only certain passes instead. Whereas before all passes and memberships had that perk. To add to that, with the decreased premium pass/membership pricing it's waaaaay more affordable than before. As for the dining passes - the restructure of that perk was necessary. The way it was before - allowing you to get free food items for EVERY visit adds up - so adding a limit to the amount of free meals available in a single season was certainly a responsible change to the dining pass - however, as with the parking pass they did not get rid of the pass it was simply limited to decrease costs from giving away a mind boggling amount of free food & that would be considered ridiculously expensive to ANY theme park. The real reason the company lost so many pass holders is because the world was in a global pandemic and the company was closed like every other theme park - which quite frankly Cedar Fair, Universal Studios, and even Disney lost the equivalent of half of their pass holders/memberships because of that. Trying to blame it on the way the parks have restructured their systems is rather poor form. 🤷‍♂🤷‍♂🤷‍♂

It's funny how Selim says he wants to put effort into maintenance. He's talking about predictors for maintenance like train upgrades and big changes, but it's the day-to-day keeping things running that keeps attractions being charming for years to come. You can't just let Monster Mansion run without maintenance until the time comes to make upgrades. You're going to see ridership decrease while it looks bad, and many people won't come back if the upgrade isn't big enough.

This is a VERY Valid point in todays economy, NO ONE has any extra money accumulating every month anymore. Bidenomics saw to that. Until we get a president who actually wants to help the average American by putting extra money in our pockets by GOOD SOUND COMMON SENSE Policies, the average american barely has enough money to payy for the Essentials. I wish we had a president that knew something about how money works, and had a business sense to their approach, that would result in average americans saving more money each month.

I took my nanny kids to six flags in Maryland two summers ago and we were all in line together to get on a ride. Well, when those little gates things opened to let us in, we had to wait for the people who rode the ride last to clear out and by the time we were getting on the gate was starting to close. My nanny kids were able to get through but it was already nearly closed by the time I was going to get on. Well I got the ride attendant’s attention and told her that the gate closed on me but I need to be with my nanny kids at all times. She said “thats tough”. I literally had to argue with this woman to let me be on the ride with my nanny kids 😐 I love amusement parks but the employees there make me avoid six flags.

So to hear that this new CEO intends on rising the prices even more just infuriates me. If they had only raised the prices after adding new rides then I wouldn’t be as upset, but raising the prices as soon as you bought the park without making any major changes is a serious red flag to me.

As someone who lives near the six flags Great America and used to frequent it before covid because it was in the area, it has gone downhill. There is a lot of empty space, lack of things to do for families, lack of variety in amusement/entertainment, and it's become a place where a lot of teenagers loiter. Six flags used to be worth the price of admission, but now it doesn't even it's not worth it anymore. Especially because things are so expensive too. Idk. As downhill as the Six flags chain has been, Great America is slowly fixing things up, not perfect but in the right direction. Shading structures are being added, buildings getting some repaint and TLC and removing some attractions that are not needed being Dare Devil Dive and Buccaneer Battle. Despite ride operations and staffing still being an issue at times, it’s not the worst. The park did say that 2023 was just going to focus on cleanliness and making areas a bit nicer.

As one of the teens who used to loiter around Six Flags St. Louis, it was a way for me to hang out with friends that I wouldn't normally get to meet anywhere due to one thing or another, and it also got me outside and not focus on technology. I loved walking the park, because it felt like an amusement park (empty malls don't help the issue). Some of us teenagers at the time had no other outlet to be ourselves away from family and without getting yelled at for hanging out. Malls around here practically put the hammer down on groups of teens window-shopping, so we had no other place to really go. I used to love six flags because it was affordable and I felt welcomed as me (lgbt relationship). Now I can barely afford to park, they now charge and entry fee for the previously free water park, three chicken tender and a small amount of fries went up to $12/13 without a drink, and they just let the rides break leaving a small amount of options.... I used to work there when I was a freshman in highschool and loved it for the atmosphere, but now it just feels rundown, dirty, and forgotten. Hell even the Six Flags St. Louis advertisements aren't even featuring the park in any promo.

I was there on ground zero during 2020 when Six Flags Over Texas closed in the middle of spring break running Runaway Mountain. I lost my job at my new park in 2020 at Six Flags Great Escape because they wouldn't let us open (I was promoted and move there during the pandemic). The pandemic hit us hard. I was re-hired at Six Flags Over Texas after having to move back south down. I earned my white shirt from being an event staff during the whole "it's time to get back to work" movement to work security. Here's the thing that videos like this don't really delve into and it's the employees on the ground. A lot of us across the board, across the country even, were sore at all the shake ups and changes happening so fast. A lot - I mean A LOT - of old guard left in various levels of management from on-scene at parks to on high at corporate going into the 2020s. The new blood filling the old shoes had a lot of pressure on them to perform and there were a lot of... interesting decision made... employees up and down the ladder can feel when the top of the ladder shakes. My final days at Six Flags Over Texas in 2021 I saw the old CEO leave after he had just made a bunch of popular - albeit expensive - quality of life improvements. Better pay, better hours, rumors spread of even dismantling the old system and making "full time/part time" the norm rather than it being a rank/privilege of the upper management. "Full times"/"Full time" was slang used for upper management because only the big bosses and such were "full time employees" with good pay and benefits. I have worked 96 hours in one week before at Six Flags Over Texas classified as a "seasonal employee" because Six Flags for so long has been abusing the 'seasonal' employee classification. We worked all year round from Park Services to Security yet most of us on paper were "seasonal employees". We actually had people start getting approved to be considered "part-time" employees. Things were looking up until we found out the CEO that had given us all this good change was out and when the new guy stepped in he immediately reserved a lot of popular decisions - including decreasing a lot of pay raises that we JUST got - and it was an immediate shift. The morale crash I saw will stick with me forever. It was like the life died in the staff because the changes we saw that lot of people wanted for a long time were being turned around at mach-5. I'm not smart. I'm not college educated. I never have been and will never an executive. I do not care if the reverse on a lot of the changes that were made was beneficial overall. The genie was out of the bottle and there was no turning that bus around without a lot of pain and anger. Executives only look up, they never look down. Eventually they will turn around and see the ash and cinder of their deeds done.

I've been going to Six Flags Great Adventure since the late 90s until about 2007, and that place was thriving! I bought the seasons pass this season because it was a good deal. I bought the gold pass, which was upgraded to the platinum pass, and was about $100. This pass included free parking and unlimited access to the park, wild safari, and hurricane harbor. I honestly can't believe how run down the park has become. There is no entertainment anymore unless they have an event for a particular day. Everything is faded or discolored. The restaurants are run down, and the food is expensive and tastes horrible. Most of the staff is rude and looks miserable. It was actually pretty sad to see. The park needs a major face lift/renovation. The only thing the park has going for them are the roller-coasters(when they are open). I really hope the park owners can fund the necessary renovations so the park can thrive again.

Agree. Six Flags Great Mis-Adventure in late Summer of 2022 was terrible, as was St. Louis and Magic Mountain. Unfortunately that's the norm at Six Flags. I go to lots of parks every year so I get a good feel for how Six Flags and Cedar Fair are doing in the eyes of an intelligent, open-eyed consumer. Cedar Fair parks for years have felt much more welcoming, efficiently run, friendlier, cleaner, with more rides open and much more optimism than any Six Flags property. Fiesta Texas is, _almost,_ an exception, but it is run by a passionate, long-time Texas coaster enthusiast who cares greatly for "his" park.

I was just there last week on a Monday since my fiancé and I just go once a year, the park was very dead but they cut corners by closing Wonder Woman and a few other big attractions then only having one car in use to have the lines move slower. X2 closed twice that day so I didn’t get to ride it and left more than 2 hours early since I felt I rode everything I wanted that was open (skipped Viper and revolution) and it wasn’t worth it to stick around. For sure becoming a dying park.

In my opinion, the problem with Six Flags is that unless you buy a season pass you are screwed! We went there this year with a day pass that at first seemed reasonable. But then they keep piling on the price by making you pay for additional things. For instance, one of the best things about Six Flags was that you got two parks with one ticket! Meaning that you got the regular park and the water park with one price. Not anymore! Now you have to pay extra if you want to go to the water park! Which is unfair to people that will mainly spend their day there in the summer! If they want to do that then they should give you a choice of which part of the park you want to go to and only pay for that park. Like Dollywood does. Because the problem is that they have severely cut the hours of operation now. It used to be open until at least 10 pm and longer on the weekend days. Now they close at 7 pm! So if you go to the water park, which closes at 6 pm, then you only have one hour to enjoy the rest of the park! Which totally sucks! Also $30 for parking for one day is outrageous! They have made it so that unless you buy a pass, they are just going to screw over the person that wants to come for the day. Especially familys on vacation that obviously would not buy a season pass! At least in my area I think that is the main reason why attendance is down!

Short story I wanna share, when I worked at six flags america. Me and my brother worked nights cleaning the parks for about 6 months. We just turned on compactors and carried around the garbage bins to said compactors. For a majority of our time we were the ONLY ONES doing this job. Just the two of us, for the entire park. Not saying they were not hiring... No one but us stayed. We've seen guys come and quit not even after a few weeks. One day me and my brother didn't come in for work. Can't remember if we were sick or what, but we missed a night. No one collected the trash the night we were gone. NO ONE. Not leadership, not sending some poor employee, nothing. They literally just left the trash hidden away from guest. And then left it until we came into work that following afternoon. Me and my brother had to make up basically two DAYS of trash, give or take. Specifically behind this one restaurant there was this God awful, eye watering smell. Turns out they left full bins of meat in there. Left it so long that it was literally *filled with MAGGOTS*. Crawling in, out, and on every nearby surface. Yes, me and my brother cleaned it out. Cuz literally no one else would. Its been 4 years. I never forgot that smell.

Having visited many other theme parks across the country (as most have), Six Flags can improve their situation quite simply by emphasizing development in areas that work for successful parks. 1) Invest heavily into theming and park presentation, and 2) venture into Six Flags Resorts where patrons can stay at Six Flags themed hotels overnight or for multiple days for multiple park visits.

Six Flags California attempted to become a report with its own on-site hotel. They got as far as beginning construction before local hotels got the city to shutdown construction so the park ended up turning around turned the buildings offices they lease out companies that can fill a whole building i.e. Sunkist and Scorpion. Themeparks don't always have a choice to go full on-site resorts like Disney, Universal, SeaWorld, etc. They also do Theme areas in their parks if you ever taken the time to look at their maps even if the ride names don't always reflect the theme of the area.

The staff were all high as hell, the thunderbolt roller coaster malfunctioned and went full speed through the stop zone at the end of the ride and went around a second time, people were panicking and the operator thought it was funny, we paid extra money to not wait in lines and people were blatantly cutting other people and staff would do nothing but let them on the rides. Half of the rides, food stands, and attractions weren't open for most of the day, and the day I went was particularly crowded, so the few things that were open were overcrowded and almost impossible to actually access. One of the haunted house attractions wasn't open but not stated on the app or website but on the boards inside the park state that it opens mid-October. These issues on top of the usual complaints of not as clean of a park, many restaurants closed, unfriendly staff, etc.

The problem with our Six Flags (Six Flags: America in the DC/MD region) has always been the location. It's essentially purgatory but the people from each side get to merge every now and then. You can go one day, have a wonderful time, get some food, take in a show, buy a few souvenirs. Then when it's time to leave, you go back to your car and someone broke into it. Or, you'll go one day and get surrounded by people who want to steal your belongings if you leave them unattended at the water park area, find some way to get into a argument with you, cut in line (every line, no matter what it's for), and fight the ride operators. Yes, this happens in every theme park, it just seems to happen a lot more often at this theme park. We'll go to Virginia to Kings Dominion, which is starting to become more of a backwoods country fair than a theme park so it's not a very good comparison, but for all the negativity with Kings Dominion, conflict is still lower there than at Six Flags.

True, they aren't Disney, and they don't need to be, however, they still need to focus on things like park beautification, immersive theming, food offerings, and diversity of entertainment including shows, dark rides, and family coasters. It's the only way they'll actually grow into a stronger brand.

I used to go regularly and had a membership. Then about two years ago I had gone for freight fest and had to reserve my spot ahead of time so they could “limit guest counts for social distancing.” When I got there, there was more people than I’ve ever seen before and the ticketing site crashed when they opened the gates so nobody could use their tickets. After about 4 hours of waiting in lines to get in and get the maze pass(which costs extra) we saw one show and decided to leave and drive home(1.5 hours) as we were in line for the first maze for a hour. They lied about limiting guests for social distancing and couldn’t even handle the guests they had that night. I told them about how horrible the experience was and they didn’t care so I cancelled my membership and I’ll never go back. Drove a total of 3 hours to go to an overcrowded park and wait around for 6 hours and spend $150 on top of a membership just to see a 30 minute acrobatics show and eat cafeteria grade nachos.

But the location kinda forces you to use their parking lot so its just an addon to the price. -Have to spend the entire day waiting in lines by people that either smell like B.O., weed, or both. -half the restaraunts also shut down, but doesnt matter because food too expensive anyways -some of the rollercoasters are ROUGH. Not in like a "wow that was intense" way, like a "that wasnt cool, all it did was hurt my back and neck, who designed this?" Kind of way.

Six Flags' biggest problem is their people at the top aren't Six Flags people. The company brings in people who have no investment in the wellbeing of Six Flags. For decades Six Flags was tossed from corporate overlord to corporate overlord and viewed as a potential ATM once it gets moved out of liability status.....and the corporate overlord would do nothing to move Six Flags out of that liability status identity. Sell the project to another corporate overlord and the process repeats. A corporation which wants to become Six Flags and make it their crown jewel needs to show up and get to work. ALSO, that 38 million lawsuit payout for the fingerprint scan entry in Illinois was total bullcrap. You don't have to buy a season pass if you don't want "big brother" knowing your fingerprint. Six Flags St. Louis used to be my 'go to' for years, but after taking a ten or so year break from going and then getting married to someone who preferred Holiday World I haven't been back since. They're basically the same distance from us (Holiday World is a bit closer, but not by much), but I just like Holiday World so much more. Very clean, free drinks, Splashin' Safari right there. We love it.

One of the problems with Six Flags is that for the most part, they only have roller coasters and carnival-style rides. They need to build some dark rides with animatronics and also more themed live action shows.

Interesting video! I just saw that Six Flags Over Georgia announced a new thrill coaster so I hope they are taking a really close look at what people want. It's just hard for me to justify going back to Six Flags multiple times a year because the rides are just ok but the atmosphere is basically non existent. I was a season passholder last year because I found the pass to be a good deal, but it didn't make sense for me to get it this year because I didn't think the park could offer me anything new. The parks need a major facelift & need the atmosphere revamped.

I've worked for many years at a big amusement park. Weather is no joke. In the California Bay area I've seen the amusement park literally close at 1pm due to rain. If there are less park guests than employees on the clock, it's time to go home.

It's great they're going back to building rides but they always seem to make poor decisions in that department as well. Like it's baffling why they put low capacity rides in parks that deserve high quality attractions.

Six Flags had some pretty good announcements today. Great Adventure confirmed the Vekoma Super Boomerang, SFA has the Coyote Creek refresh (a steampunk theme like the one around Twisted Colossus at Magic Mountain) along with a new flat (Zamperla NebulaZ). But then SFA hasn't opened the water slide they announced for this year and the summer is almost over.

I remember when I turned 16 was the same year they built the Superman and all new rides at my local 6 flags. We got a season pass for 60 bux and went at least 2 times a week. I took my son in 2022 and he was 2 inches too short to ride the majority of the rides so we had to spend the day on the 5 rides in the looney tunes area.

The one thing I don’t think that Six Flags understands is how and where to raise prices. Don’t raise gate prices if you are just going to discount them back down. Set the gate price where you actually need it to be and raise the price on draft beer and bottled water a quarter. Your captive audience is going to pay for those consumables. Improve the merchandise situation-stop selling junk in the gift shops. Get some quality merch out there and charge a premium for it - Cedar Fair is certainly capitalizing on that-I love my hoodie that has a zipper pocket-and I think it was $70.

It was also at the same time becoming very dangerous with people coming in from the city, there was fights and theft and it wasn't family friendly any more. Shortly after we stopped going we saw in the news there was a shooting in the parking lot.

I would say ‘05-‘07 the addition of El toro and Kingda Ka really kicked it up. They still hadn’t taken down the great American scream machine & Batman and robin chiller. Superman was still relatively new… Nitro had become a household name by that point. What a time to be alive.

You’re spot on. Their biggest money makers (Great Adventure, Magic Mountain, and Great America) had their attendance peak in the mid 1990s. Why? Because they attracted a much broader mix of adults with children who were drawn to their parks because of their mix of rides, shows, and attractions. Today, the parks have limited appeal because they lack shows, attractions, and other rides which appeal to families. Rollercoasters alone do not draw millions to any mark.

I went to six flags once years ago and it was the worst experience I’ve ever had at an amusement park. I have food allergies, and they refused to let me take in my food with me while also not offering any options in their park that I could eat. I had to go all the way back out to our car just to eat lunch. The park was dirty and trash everywhere, and the staff was miserable. You couldn’t pay me to go back. Especially with Hershey in such a close proximity offering so much more at a similar price point.

Going to visit a friend in DC, will be going to Six Flags Maryland for Octoberfest. As long as the beer and the funnel cakes are good, should be ok haha. The thing about being a "Premium Park" also comes down to world view imo. The thing about Disney, Universal, and SeaWorld is they are World renowned. People come all over the world to Orlando for parks. They can charge a Premium Price solely because for most people, it is a Once in a Lifetime trip for the family to come to the US and go to the Theme Parks. Six Flags just isn't well known outside the US and maybe Canada and Mexico.

I loved Great Adventure growing up, I was there all the time with my family. The last couple summers it was around $100 just to park and walk through the gates. For one person. That’s just too much for very old attractions that look disheveled, paint rolled up and chipped, lack of cleanliness. I could put up with that if the ticket prices were lower.

I remember going to Six Flags New England in my sophomore year of high school in 2007 for our annual chorus/band trip and competition. Even back then, the park was: 1. MUCH tinier than any of us expected, since we've either never been there before or went there when we were much younger and didn't remember. 2. Absolutely filthy without anyone caring. Someone threw up outside of one of the roller coasters, like, right by the entry line for it, and the staff was just standing next to it, trying to ignore it. When we went back hours later to get last-minute rides in, the mess was still there. 3. Clearly running out of funds and were trying to get money however they could. My friend got a hot dog and bottle of water from one of the vendors and, back in 2007, mind you, it cost them $12.50. Even for current day theme park prices, that's insane. I remember it so vividly BECAUSE of how crazy expensive it was. 4. Trying to compete with bigger parks but had no idea how to. The Superman ride was fun. That's honestly the only ride I can remember partaking in, and I know for a fact I rode at least 4 other coasters during that trip. I can't name a single one of them, however, even with the superhero theme they had. Maybe one of them was a Batman ride? I couldn't tell you. I can tell you every single ride I went on with the trip I took to Disneyland just a few months after because they were genuinely memorable. Honestly, it's been a long time coming. They were probably pretty fun in their inception decade, but with bigger and better parks to compete with, they seriously couldn't keep up.

As someone who has lived near Six Flags Over Georgia my whole life, I had to finally cut them out 5 years ago. It is the most unsafe park one could visit for many reasons, but mostly due to staff. They are basically non-existent. I don't feel safe on a ride with only 2 attendants. Rides break down all the time, staff are rude. Six Flags literally FORCES me to go to Universal, lol. On a positive note, I absolutely loved growing up as a kid going to SFOG.

I went to six flags over Georgia today and it was really fun but I had 3 rides break down while I was waiting in line. The Pandemonium and the Superman TWICE. That’s not even to mention the rides that they had shut down all day like the Acrophobia and the Blue Hawk. One other problem I have with 6 flags is the prices of food and stuff ( this applies to most theme parks lol ). They were selling a single bottle of water for 9 Dollars!💸
