Last time I changed the oil in my Polaris Sportsman there was some gas in the oil. I put in fresh ethanol free gas loaded with Seafoam. Hoping that would solve my issues. I didn’t use it much at all last year and thought it solved my problem. With a snow storm on the way I decided I better change the oil again. Much to my dismay the oil was once again loaded with gas!
This little project was not planned at all. I feared it was inevitable, but hoped my issue was fixed. Like many things in my life my plans for the day got shot. It was time to figure out how to get the carburetor off this thing.
If I would have planned a little better. A carburetor kit probably would have been involved. Since it wasn’t It was back to the tried and true clean it and used aviation gasket maker. I have done this on a lot of small engines in the past. Always with great results. Even on my outboard motor. Therefore I had confidence it would work. With that being said I should mention it ran beautiful before. So all that seems to be a issue is the needle valve not closing.
When I started I had no idea what I was doing. It took some analyzing and a bit of reading specs on the internet. This unfortunately cost me some time, but next time it will be a breeze.
After a few weeks all is well and it runs great. So far no signs of gas in the oil. Although I have been using the fuel cut off I installed. Why it didn’t come with one I will never understand. Or maybe one day I will find it. I hope some one can find something useful in this video. I am no expert mechanic, but hope sharing my experiences will help someone else.
