In this video i give my opinion on why a ATV is the best choice for plowing snow . And i do a little bit of plowing with my 2007 Yamaha Kodiak 350.

FYI... I use a 4 inch wide and 3/8 inch thick Rubber conveyor belt bolted on under my metal wear bar and it sticks down about an inch. I have used it 3 years so far and still it has not even worn down any. The rubber helps a lot when going over cracks in the sidewalks that are uneven by eliminating the jolt when you hit something solid. I got the conveyor belting used off of old construction equipment. Works good all year round. Even plowing rock and sand in the summer time.

That sounds like a great idea I think I have a thick piece of rubber here I think I will try that. Thanks Bones.

Nice video. I have plowed my paved drive and gravel service road on my property since buying a new 2006 outlander 800. In '19 I upgraded to an Outlander 850 XTP. Had the same plow, one just like yours. I put on a poly cutting edge and it plows fine. I even plow an oval track in the back yard for the dogs to run. Never had a problem with snow depth either. If its a big storm I'll plow during the storm then when its over. I like it better that my 2500 pick up with a Boss plow. Although I never got cold or wet while plowing with the truck.

Outlander nice machine that would make pushing snow even more fun but cold and wet are the price we pay. Yes sometimes it would be nice to have heat and dry thanks for the comment.

I bought a cover for mine...saves on headaches. And I also plow my snow up and over the pile to make a ramp so by the end of winter my yard is still as wide as it was when I started.

Good video for me, just moved from Hawaii to a small mountain town in Virginia on 6 acres with a 1/2 mile long driveway. Snow is coming, and I have had a hard time deciding what would be the best type of machine to buy for plowing. I am looking to pick something up soon. Thanks for the videos.

Wow that will be a long driveway to plow I think a quad will do fine and have many other uses on the property as well as off the property. I look at it as fun and not work it helps as well to curb the boredom of long winters. Thanks for the comment.

I replaced the cutting bar you mentioned about wear, and had a gentleman weld a 1x6 sold steel cutting blade from an actual county plow on the bottom of the blade. Works great and it also add about 50lbs to the blade. So it cleans the surface cleaner

You may not find it necessary after 16 years plowing with that thing, but I would strongly suggest giving tire chains a try. I added v-bar diamond style chains to the rear tires on mine, and they are great.

You are right I did borrow chains to try a few years ago and they were amazing if we get a lot of snow I might get some but so far this year we have very little. A few years ago our house was buried we could walk over it could have used chains that year.

Do have a video on the bracket on the rack for your plow? I just started using one of my atvs for plowing and should have went with my yamaha 450. I set up my can am 650 outlander max 2 up with a plow and its a beast for my area. I will want to put a bracket on my rack to change the angle of the plow. My can am has a plastic rack. I'll probably will use my bumper to bolt on a flat plate to get that better angle. Thank you for sharing your experience with your quad.

read that the minimum that you need for plow is a 400cc atv. otherwise it'll be too light for the plowing.

That is a nice machine I do not know al lot about plows but I think myself I would not go to wide as it could loose strength and will not fit into tight spots as well a smaller plow might take a little longer to plow but hey it is fun anyways.

So a big snow blower that can throw snow 30ft away or at least 25ft away would that not be more efficient than plowing 2x as wide driveway always. Even if it was half the speed you would only have to blow 10ft wide driveway instead of 20ft wide. Also the snow would not stack up so high.
@liveworkplaywilderness1877
@liveworkplaywilderness1877 9 ай бұрын
I think for some people they work great but for me not so much cost being the main reason also I have a very rocky uneven driveway as do some of the other driveways I plow and a lot of tight aeras that can only be reached with a small blade .one more reason is the amount of moving parts can cause more maintenance and repairs my Nieboer has had to repair his multiple times most of which I believe has been shear pins. Just my opinion.

Depends where you live but I will never put a plow on a ATV ever again. I would get a tractor or use the snowblower. I plowed my first 10yrs on a Polaris & a Suzuki. The Suzuki was much better but plowing beats them up & salt on the roads don’t help. I started using a blower more after selling the quads to get a new camper trailer. The blower is much faster & don’t need to worry about where to put it but is not as fun. Before I had to get off to shovel away from the garage & I live in a subdivision. Only time where the plow was better was doing someone’s road to the house until I couldn’t roll the snow off the side of the road anymore. Then I got a Honda Rubicon & I wasn’t going to put a plow on it until someone gave me one. I tried a winch & hated it. I built my own rack mounted pulley lever system & my neighbor drew mine up to built his own. Much faster & I can feel the ground when going over gravel. I’ve plowed for 20yrs with the Honda & it’s worthless in deep wet snow. I can do it in half widths but it’s slower than a blower. I do a average of 12 driveways & sidewalks at a time. Good thing I have a welder & about every 3yrs I have to replace ware bar but I get my own metal & drill my own holes. I use a 5” bar for the weight & back dragging. I took the skid shoes off & I plow with it angled most all the time. If you just do your own driveway you might be fine but once you start doing a bunch of neighbors it’s hard on them. I’ll still plow with it but I don’t recommend it when doing a lot.

You lost me as soon as you put water on the ATV in the winter! I’m a Locksmith Living in MN my whole life (60 years) and absolutely the worst thing you can do is dump water on anything to thaw it out! Worst thing to do...PERIOD!

That is a interesting comment we have much the same temperatures here so how would you thaw out a frozen lock keep in mind i have to do it multiple times per day and lots of plastic around the lock .It does refreeze very fast when cold out as i plow many driveways no matter what the quad is always wet as it gets covered in snow that melts from the hot quad does not take long to refreeze like i said in the video there is no actual key .hope you have a better way and thanks for watching.

When you are attempting to thaw a frozen component such as a lock, fasteners like nuts and bolts, or essentially anything else in freezing temperatures you do not want to put water on them. Even using heat such as a blow torch will temporarily thaw the item but they will refreeze quickly. You want to use a de-icing product that displaces water. These are typically aerosol spray products found on line or hardware stores and they advertise them as de-icing products.

Thanks for the comment the short answer is why put unnecessary wear on the rocker switch , solenoid, winch, winch cable, fairlead, and more not to mention time when only going a few feet using your winch that often is hard on it . You can see in the video I do raise it when travelling any distance it is a full floating blade and was not harmed in the making of this video .If you raise your blade often feel your solenoid at the end of plowing hot= wear . Thanks for watching.
