If someone is interested: The breed she is talking about is the "Nederlandse kooikerhond". Nederlandse = Dutch hond = dog And a "kooiker" is a guy who catches ducks with some kind of cage-like device (a "kooi" in Dutch). This breed used to be trained to lure ducks inside the cage. The reason Aubrey is linking it to Dutch royals is that there is a legend a kooikerhond warned William of Orange (the Dutch rebel leader in the Eighty Years War) that the Spanish troops were coming. The kooikerhond warned William by scratching his tent with his paws so he woke up. This way the rebels could get away in time before the Spanish troops arrived.

She means 'Het Nederlandse Kooikerhondje' which is actually a Dutch breed. Not bred for royals, however Willem van Oranje (the Prince of Orange) had a Kooikerhondje. The breed almost became extinct during WOII, however a Baroness (van Hardenbroek van Ammerstol) took it upon herself to save the breed. So there is a little royal story to the breed. ( I know this as I am Dutch and my family breeds Kooikerhondjes)

I just watched Ingrid goes west. Awesome movie and mind blowing acting and producing job by her. Literally at a different level than any other actress or actor working today. She acts very not serious on these talk shows but she is SERIOUSLY great at what she does.

Nederlandse kooikerhondje! I had one too when I grew up. Also famous Dutch painters like Vermeer painted them. Also I'm Dutch :) they're used to be playfull around ducks to get them to follow them.

That description of curling is wrong. When you sweep (what she called to as broom) it doesn't speed up the stone... Sweeping causes friction which melts the ice making the stone go straighter and further but never faster.

well she almost spelled it right :-) for those who don't believe her, it's a Nederlanse Kooikerhond. Only I can't find whether or not it is in fact a Royal breed of dogs. What I can find is that they were popular in the 17th and 18th century and were used to lure ducks. They also appear in paintings of Rembrandt and Jan Steen.

Marsei Meider, apparently there’s a legend about a kooikerhondje warning Willem van Oranje so he wouldn’t get murdered (Pompey) was his name. Although it’s been disputed if it actually was a kooiker. That’s the only way it’s related, since it was bred to lure ducks into traps and wasn’t bred for royals
