Watch the moment the hammer came down on Mark Knopfler's Vintage 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. This guitar led the extraordinary sale which realised £8,840,160 and was 100 per cent sold!
Music aficionados, fans and collectors from 61 countries registered to bid, with phenomenal levels of competition across the 122 lots offered, resulting in the auction lasting over 6 hours. 25% of the total hammer price will be divided equally and donated to charities that Mark Knopfler has supported for many years: The British Red Cross, Tusk and Brave Hearts of the North East. 100% of the funds raised from the final lot are being donated to Teenage Cancer Trust. In addition, Christie’s is contributing a further £50,000 to each of the four charities.

If feasible… how much could MK’s talent be worth? That’s the relative value of money: you can buy a house but not a home, you can buy some company but neither friendship or a family, you can buy fame and popularity, but never true love and authentic prestige. You can buy his guitars, 🎸 but never his childhood passion for a guitar he couldn’t afford, his talent, creativity and genius. God bless you Mark Knopfler! Thanks a lot for sharing your guitars, but most of all, for sharing your unique mastery and outstanding level of creativity you attained with each and every one of them!🙌🙌🙌

How did the Christie's 'experts' get their valuations so ridiculously wrong? For example: Lot17 Pensa Suhr, estimate £6,000 - £8,000, Price Realised £504,000. Every lot, except one which sold for £693,000 achieved many times it's top estimate. Well, to quote the song, I have this to say to Christies; "I won't get fooled again".

a Pensa Suhr guitar from that year and similar qualities will sell for about £6,000 - £8,000. a Pensa Suhr from MK personal collection can sell for whatever any bidder is willing to pay for it. that is the logic, if we can say logical thing here.
