If you're new to the Audacity Filter Curve EQ or the concept of EQ in general, you may find this video helpful. It's a result of some questions I was asked recently by Audacity users new to EQ and the Filter Curve EQ that's built into Audacity.

Wow this was very useful. Most of the youtubers say "just boost the basses and boost the trebles and that's ok" without explanations

I had zero understanding of EQ before, just something the 'audio whizzes' used, but I've learned so much through this video! Thank you.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. Your video was exactly what I was hoping to find. So... you confirmed... no miracles... my voice can never be EQ-ed to sound like Cate Blanchett's.

Hello Professor! hats off to you. It was shear pleasure listening to your voice and at the same time learning great stuff. You're a great teacher and I will be exploring your other videos, to help myself and learn to record my songs. Very glad to find your rich resource! God bless you!

Very helpful video, thank you! You alluded to the real time effects being used more commonly than these EQ filters, yet I haven't touched them bc I'm trying to walk before I run in audacity. I didn't see them referenced in you main channel library either. Would you consider doing a similar tutorial video on them in the future?

You don't need to duplicate the track necessarily, I just 'save as' and if I screw it up, I just close and don't save any changes.

Could you do a side by side comparison of your favourite microphones and comment on the pros and cons of each? I wish you had shown us the filter curve settings of all of the microphones in your collection. I'd be particularly interested in your comments on the sound quality of the Rode NT1 versus the Shure SM7B and your filter curve settings for them.

why most if not all vids people are doing like this they only do a voice track instead of using a free music track sometimes? i ask because voice tracks dont have the hiss and whistle whine in the background like some music ones do, just asking :) that would help out too

Your internal mic's frequency response is probably well below 10KHz, so there is probably nothing above 10KHz to begin with, which means that the changes you make at those frequencies are inconsequential...

After cutting the low frequencies in the Filter Curve EQ and clicking "Apply", the spectrum plot still shows high volume at low frequencies (e.g. more than -30dB at 50Hz). What am I missing?

Thank you for your KZfaq posting. In jacking up the eq by say, +24db in some frequency ranges, does that mean that you have to reduce the amplitude of the original audio prior to applying the chosen eq in order to avoid running out of digital bits and creating distortion? If so, if you don’t already know what an appropriate eq would be, how can a suitable attenuation be determined prior to starting? It all fees a bit like guesswork. Also, how can we adjust the eq in real time and hear the effect at the time of change, or is preview the only way in Audacity? If so, it’s a bit of a shame, because using the preview method isn’t that effective (for me at least). More guesswork. Thank you.

I'm watching your video today in the hope of learning more about Audacity, perhaps to gain enough knowledge to do what I really want to do with audio production. I don't podcast or record audio books. I make music with live-played instruments. Yes, I am a strange creature howling at the moon just before my inevitable extinction. There is no Save the Musicians movement for my endangered-species designation. No one makes tutorials for me or my kind...so we roam the internet looking for scraps on which to feed, perchance to live musically for just one more moment. Obviously, I need some filters and the skills to use them.

There's possibly something here for me in being able to get rid of nearly unhearable (that's a word now) noises in my recordings, maybe room noise or electronic hum/hiss. Um, the select all keyboard shortcut in Windows is Ctrl+A.

@@LearnAudacity Thanks for the reply. To be clear, can real-time EQ be done with the built-in Nyquist effect, or do I need to get a VST or other effect to use the real-time feature? Thanks again. 🤔
@LearnAudacity
@LearnAudacity Жыл бұрын
@@LawrenceMeisel No. the Nyquist plugin is destructive. Real-time EQ plugins would need to be used. Right now, Audacity supports VST2 and VST3 real-time plugins. VST and more are in the way! Thanks for asking.
