Noise reduction removes a certain range of frequencies from your audio. To use it, you first you need to click 'Get Noise Profile' to Audacity what to frequencies to remove. Then the bottom sliders and number-entry fields will reduce those sampled frequencies by a certain amount of decibels. You can also say how close to those frequencies to consider valid for dB reduction and how much rolloff you want on neighboring frequencies (so it sounds more natural like you recorded it that way with your mic). There' s not much, if anything, you can do to remove room echo. It's sort-of one of those cardinal sins that you can't really repair once it's picked up. The best thing to do is use gain staging in your initial recording so you pick up only the voice and not the echoes. Big studios like Disney's VO don't even bother to use sound foam and instead just use a bunch of gain staging.

Step 1 is to get the noise profile; requires one press that button, not 'OK'.

I do still have some trouble with my echo, but otherwise this was the most succinct Audacity help that I've found for removing unwanted noise! THANK YOU!

Hello, I decreased the speed of a song I like. This worked, but the percussion now sounds like they are kind of 'flattening out' or the drum beats are coming closer together. Would you know why?

Your initial audio didn't sound like there was anything wrong with it. Maybe you could hear it, but listening to your video with headphones I couldn't really hear any noise and certainly not any echo.

The ok and preview buttons are greyed out until you make a noise profile.... which is not an echo. :/

Some handy tips here on noise and 'normalise' audio, but like others I was looking specifically for echo reduction. I couldn't find anywhere on YT, so learned how to do elsewhere then created easy video here to reduce ECHO/reverb (and increase overall volume).
