Audi e-tron Cold Start and Snow Drive

Hello! I wanted to test the cold start capability, battery life and driving experience in the snow today. I understand this is not scientific or serious snow. But nonetheless it is interesting how it performs. Bring on the snow, we will keep testing it soon! Please comment and subscribe. Thank you!

Helpful video. I have looked this type of Etron video for while with defrosting. Can you do this defrosting with App also?

Can you please make a video showing HPC charging with an "empty" (5-10 %) frozen battery? I'm interested how fast it heats up the battery to reach it's 150 kW charging power.

May i suggest parking in an enclosed garage…. Keeping the car plugged in … and finally and most importantly…. PRECONDITION THE CAR! You will get full range - 220 miles, the car will be nice and warm, fully defrosted, and save you a ton of power for driving rather than warning up the car… just saying… 😊

It does have heated washer nozzles for the windshield and I think the headlights. When you see the snowflake next to the temp that’s when it’s turned on. Also have 2.3 tons helping you with the grip haha

Hey sorry because I just found your channel off another video but are you still driving the 2013 Audi A4? I was looking at one myself and they seem very reliable was just curious how it was working out for you after a couple years

No worries! The B8.5 (2013 A4) is very reliable. As long as you do routine maintenance the vehicle will be great. I have a few older model A4's and they are all pretty reliable, just take some more care and love than per-say a Civic. Although the drive is worth it. From a money standpoint, I haven't really had to spend a lot over the year and 40k I drove it. If you're worried, spend the money on an external warranty.

Does this car have the cold weather package? It would be great to do the same cold start, but start with the car connected to the charger and a pre-conditioning timer set, just to mimic what people would actually experienced if they owned the car.

More snow is on it's way to Colorado. I would be happy to do more testing. Stay tuned, I will post some pre conditioning and charging in the cold videos soon.

Does the charging door get iced over (I assume it does) and so what is the solution if you need to charge? Blow dryer stored in the car?

Considering Etron’s range is about 200 miles, can you suggest why this car is showing 116-118 while being fully charged?

farbod SEDAEI a couple big reasons is the car was about 60% charged or so. On top of that it was also cold and using climate as well as heat etc in the car. These are all contributions to using the power. As you start to drive and warm up the car it will adjust.

I own one, and I'm sorry to report that, like all electric cars, the range suffers in cold weather. Mine is less than a year old, and my day started at 151 mi of range after charging to 80% capacity overnight. Note that Audi recommends charging to only 80% most of the time, so I do that. After driving 70 mi round trip (mostly between 55 and 65mph) in temperatures around 25 degrees (F), I'm sitting on 71 mi of range remaining. One of the main reasons I've been mostly disappointed with this car. Here's hoping BMW, Ford, VW, Lucid, Benz, Nissan, etc. elevates the quality for all electrics in the coming years.

Suryateja GT depends on what you’re comparing. For my climate I prefer Audi. For a sports car I prefer Audi with the R8. For a warm climate with good roads or a fun track day it’s hard to beat the performance of a M3/M4. BMW are very engaging and fun to drive but the rides are very stuff and sporty as are their seats. For a badass fun daily driver for my climate I think an S5/S4 takes the win. Again, depends on the parameters. Everyone makes a good car in 2020.

Suryateja GT I think it’s a different car. And I don’t think a RS5 goes head to head to a M3/M4. Unfortunately different beasts. On the road for freeway driving etc I’ll choose Audi all day. But on an open track actually pushing these cars...the M performance is pretty killer. I’ve thankfully had the chance to drive them where it counts.

1:14 Top left after powered up says 157 mile Range - I'll ignore this but huh? 1:43 Now says 118 mile Range 3:08 After Warmup, Now 116 Range - 108.5Miles on the ODO - "warming up took about 1 mile of range" 3:12 Driving, Now 113 range - 109.3 on the ODO. So Basically warming up and getting 8/10th of a mile took 5 miles of range. Can someone please give me actual info about this car... I want to buy one but come on be honest. If I park it in 0F weather, and leave it for 8 hours while at work, how much charge/range do I loose just from it running the battery warmers that entire time? Serious Question.

Going to MAX HEAT is a bad habit in EVs / PHEVs. How often do we max out our household thermostats in the winter? Not the most energy efficient way of living and will reflect on the household gas / electricity bills. Gasoline vehicles, on the other hand, have a significant amount of waste heat to tap into, almost 80% of each gallon is wasted. Selecting a maximum heating selecting is a habit we fell into as heating the cabin didn't cost us anything extra, no extra fuel used etc. Selecting 68-72F is usually the ideal livable temperature, and the most efficient for EV/PHEV winter driving. Remote start / preconditioning while plugged in will also reduce overall battery demand for winter heating.
