This is the updated Audi Q5!
It may only be a facelift rather than an all-new model, but the question is - does the new Q5 have what it takes to stand out and gain your attention over key competitors like the Mercedes GLC & BMW X3?
Well for starters, it certainly looks the part! Sure, it’s not that different to the old model, but you still get a couple of nice changes, including a wider grille at the front and LEDs as standard (with the option to get Matrix LEDs if you choose a higher-spec model).
When it comes to performance, the range-topper is a hybrid 2-litre turbo petrol, which combined with the electric motor will deliver 370hp! It’s also worth remembering that all models come with AWD as standard, as well as an automatic gearbox… But then again, would you expect anything else?!
So what do you think - can the Q5 really take on the GLC and X3? Or would you choose the Mercedes or BMW instead? You’ll have to keep watching to see which you should go for!

A lot of customers actually don't like the adaptive cruise, and most people turn the lane keeping off as soon as they get in the car, so to not fit is as standard makes a lot of sense. It shouldn't cost to much to upgrade though.

I didn't buy my SQ5 for those upgrades, convenient but not necessary. But, I do agree if I'm going to get all those safety features, I would buy a Toyota.

The old Q5 had a slot behind the rear seats for the boot cover so you didn't have to throw the cover away everytime you needed to fit something large in the back :) the things you learn reading the manual :D

Matt really hates a load lip in the boot, I actually prefer it because loose items don’t slide out of the boot when you’ve parked at an incline.

Agree but I prefer the previous version's attempt at fake exhausts. On this higher range version they made it look like quad trapezoid exhausts like off an AMG. The old one looked obviously fake, like they weren't actually trying to make them look real (which is a good thing) but now they've tried to make them look real, and it's not worked.

Those inserts in the glove box lining are for SD cards which you needed (at least in the prefacelift model) for the audio system. Also this test car doesn’t have the DVD player in the glovebox. So I guess that’s gone due to the new MMI All in all they could have updated the dash more snd not had those small cube holes. Even my pre facelift has the thin slot and tiny space at the front from which items fly out! The wireless charge pad is annoying. Any tall cups block it from sliding forward so then you can’t access the compartment under the armrest!! Shame they did not adopt the Q3 centre console

I'd go for the BMW X3 as it looks like a nicer place to be than the other two and as for the car having the dirty rear end, why don't manufacturers just fit something like a very thin roller blind just inside the back where the lip is that just pulls up and out then drapes down over the back of the car, or if the car has a retractable parcel shelf which clips in, fit another two clips just inside the rear of the car and use the parcel shelf as a cover for the rear end of the car, only the underside of the parcel shelf would get any grime on it which wouldn't be seen when put back where it should be, then when you lean into the car, you wouldn't get dirty breeks.

I shortlisted the 2021 GLB,GLC,X3 and Q5. Took all of them out for a lengthy test (some received 3 test drives) The driving experience is overrated with the X3 in my opinion. I was shocked because all the reviews speak to its sportiness and better driver engagement. To be completely honest I much preferred the Q5 driving experience much more. The Q5 has the identity of would I expect a “luxury family” SUV to be. It was plush, quiet, comfortable and had more than enough power in all situations. The others felt a bit harsh compared to it. Maybe my expectations are different than the other reviewers.

Great review, as always. But I've noticed that car reviewers never mention the safety features of a car. It's always the design, the interior and in Matt's case, the log of truth and the drive . But safety, which is one of the most important reasons why families buy such cars, nada.

I received a GLC for a loner car while my E-Class was having an oil change. I would give the GLC a 9/10. The interior was posh and stylish, the ride quality was super and was surprisingly fast. The infotainment was fast to respond but took like 2 days to get used too.

Does anyone know why all the published information from Audi says that the Q5 boot space is 520L rather than 550L given pre-facelift? This is less than the boot capacity of the Q3 at 530L. I don’t know whether the boot space was always less than the Q5 and GLC and Audi has been forced to be honest or something has genuinely changed. Audi dealers say they are not aware of any change to boot capacity.

Nice review. 32 MPG equals 7.35 L/100 km. Which is actually awesome for a car like this with powerful tubro-4. Given that the modern diesel motors are cut in power due to environment regulations, for most people I guess 2.0T would be the most adequate choice if you average 20-25 thousand KM per year. If you do more than 50 thousand km, then the economy from diesel will be more substantial. However I doubt it is very important in 50-60k USD car.

I would buy Volvo XC60, I think it is a better designed and engineered car overall. Also for the same price you het much more assistant systems(lane keep assist etc.)

Why? Even in 20 years carbon will still stand for sportiness. It's not like there is any alternative. Although it looks kinda stupid on SUVs to begin with.

Here in South Africa a street racer boy with a BMW full of carbon fibre panels in the interior had both legs amputated by the carbon fibre when he crashed and rolled.

I dont understand why Audi decided not to give this the integrated infotainment screen like in all other new Audis. This is a last gen interior in a new premium car... Really is a shame

He shows his plate *himself* in the video where he buys it. He literally talks about it. Plus, in the thumbnail of every Jimny video he's posted, the plate is showing.

Considering Audi will sell more of the base model it would make more sense to review the base model.

I always buy the model one up from base, no matter what manufacturer. You get everything you need without paying silly money

They review whatever model the car manufacturers give them, which will typically be the top end, putting the best foot forward, trying to sell those expensive extras.
