Audi Q5 2024 review

The Audi Q5 isn't the newest luxury midsize SUV. But it's still one of the best.
That's because in recent years, the new-generation versions of its German luxury SUV rivals have become a lot more expensive. To get into a base model Mercedes GLC, you're looking at more than $103,000 (AUD).
For a base Q5, it's thirty thousand dollars - yes, $30,000 - less! That's not really a like-for-like comparison though, but I've covered off the entire range of Q5 SUV models in this review -- but I don't dwell much on the Sportback versions here, because personally, I think coupe-SUV models are silly.
Rest assured though, that if you think a coupe SUV is right for you, then there are a heap of Q5 Sportback models to pick from, and if you watch this review you'll be able to see which one I think is the best model in the range.
Is it the Q5 35 TDI? The 40 TDI Sport quattro? The 45 TFSI Sport quattro? The 55 TFSI e plug-in hybrid S line quattro? Or the full-fat SQ5?

I personally would choose the Lexus over the Q5 just on the fact of the reliability and cost of maintaining it throughout the years of ownership.

when you checked the boot you missed a 12V plug I noticed for a sec, and a subwoofer inside the spare wheel...

They look to be a beautiful car. A client owned one for about 5 years, but only got to drive it for about half that time due to continued visits back to Audi service (another story). Sold it and replaced it with a top of the range CX-5 and couldn’t be happier. Lloyd

It’s a very simple design not much of an upgrade, well compared to the last model Q5, out of your alternatives, I think if I had to choose, I’ll go for the Lexus

Its simple design is what works. All the other brands with their bad profile such as Lexus, BMW and Mercedes.

The diesel sales are still pretty strong . Still about 1/2 of Q5 sales still appear to favour the oiler. No oiler for the GLC unless you approach MB locally for a special dealer import . A new or updated Q5 model /range is due soon & the engine range won't change here

So Audi doesn't offer ventilated front seats in the RHD market Q5s? Interesting.

They do offer ventilated seats on higher trim models. A little research on his part and he would have known this. He didn't seem very familiar with the car he was reviewing.

Nice car but I think the Q2 is aging better and offer more spec for the money.

I'll stick with my 2018 VW Touareg Element V6 3.0 TDI with 8 speed Auto. Audi gives the first aid kit, so when you cut your wrists at the service costs. All jokes aside in this type of vehicle, I'd buy a Genisis or Lexus NX.😊

I personally would go for the Nx Lexus it’s smaller than the Q5 but much more reliable and affordable to maintain.

Q5 is not competitive any more, the are better choices; Lexus, Genesis and Mercedes drive better end have a nicer cabin.

Audi are charging a lot of money for a fairly dreary and old fashioned design. The interior is ‘nice’ but not fantastic. Diesels are becoming far less favoured in Europe, so interesting they send them to Australia. I remember my b-i-law’s A6 in England, the back seat felt like riding on a billy cart, hard and uncomfortable. Technically ‘elegant’, very grey though. The piano black in a car costing this much is downright mean. USB-A up front? That’s silly and why not USB-C? Instrumentation looks okay. I wonder if the dual clutch is the same VW/Skoda use? The ride and steering quality doesn’t sound better than adequate, it should be ‘plush’ if Audi truly wants to market the car as a luxury option. I think there are probably many more cars that are better from the money, and probably not from Germany. Economy seems okay for the size of the thing, but diesel is getting to be very expensive. The TFSI is adequate, not great however. A 5 year warranty shouldn’t be considered good for a luxury car, their warranties should be longer, not shorter than for cheaper vehicles. An interesting and fair review as always. Thanks!
