Learn how to install a new 12V battery in an Audi Q5 or SQ5. We’ll show you how to replace/change/remove with simple tips and tricks to help get you started!
Tool List: 10mm triple square bit, 10mm wrench
Click this link to determine which battery your vehicle needs: www.autobatteries.com/homepage
The 12 volt battery in this 2018 Audi Q5 is located in the trunk behind the rear passenger seats. Although this video may provide you with the basic procedures, we recommend that you check with the vehicle manufacture's step by step procedures found in service/repair manuals for the vehicle you are working on.
Even if your vehicle did not come with an AGM battery, you can upgrade to an AGM battery for up to 2x the life. AGM can be found at most retail outlets. You can learn more about AGM here: www.autobatteries.com/battery...
The use of a memory saving procedure will keep the memory alive on the vehicle's computer during the battery replacement procedure. Referring to our Memory Saving video will provide you with various memory saving procedures that can be used according to vehicle manufacturer's requirements. • Vehicle Memory Saving ...
This vehicle requires the 12 volt battery to be registered with the vehicle's Battery Control Module or Computer after replacement. The end of the video will show to how to complete this using an Autel unit. Numerous scan tools and battery testers can complete this task... some as low as $100 on Amazon. For generic videos on Battery registration and coding, see our other videos at • Battery Registration w... & • Battery Registration &...
Always wear safety glasses and gloves when working with or near batteries.

This was great thanks👏 And for those who think it’s a pain in the rear😉, it’s also the best place for the battery. But yes it’s true German engineered vehicles are never simple😅but there’s nothing quite like them! This is my fifth German from my first VW Super Beetle (wish I still had her!😢) through BMW & now my 2nd TDI. Such a shame VAG had to mess up with diesels, but at least that pushed them fast into the electric foray, especially out of necessity in the USA.

On my 2023 Q5, the trunk floor panel is a hinged two section panel that only exposes the rear speaker and spare tire. There is a third panel that apparently covers the battery, but I can not see how to remove it to expose the battery.

@TheBatteryShop

Hi - Thanks for watching! Heat is the reason Batteries fail sooner than expected. Batteries in the South are generally replaced more often than batteries Northern climates. Cold weather places more demand on the battery for starting purposes but a properly maintained battery and charging system usually results in the battery lasting as long as expected.

Probably easier with Vise-Grips/Locking pliers, as long as they have a slightly curved gripping area you probably could. Those bolts shouldn't be torqued too hard since there's no dynamic load it has to support.

Yes, these vehicles are overly complicated. If you want to own an Audi / VW you should definitely buy a set of triple square sockets. Also be prepared for lots of expensive repairs, especially if you can't even buy the tools for simple repairs.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I believe that the car is required to be coded to the new battery. This is needed so that the alternator charging is aligned with a newer battery in order to prevent damage or shorten the life. Does this need to be done by a dealer?

Just dealt with this on a 2020 Q5. Yes, these vehicles are for people who fall for the flashy car, then find out later their reliability ABSOLUTELY sucks. Even with the right tools I couldn't get the positive battery terminal to come off all the way. I was afraid that if I forced it I would break something. Overly complicated pieces of garbage that start to fall apart after four year, if your lucky, and expensive as hell to fix.

It’s a pretty stupid reason. Not to choose a car. Especially when you’re talking about a high quality German craftsmanship compared to flimsy Japanese cookie cutters. You’re not cut out for a luxury car clearly. Especially because when you purchase a luxury car, the shop does all the work for you because you’ve got the money to let other people do your bidding. People that can afford an Audi don’t fix their own cars.

Ended up having to call a tow truck because the vehicle won't start, even after charging up the battery overnight... 2020 Q5 w/ ~40k miles.
