Audi S3 8v | FREE Mod! but does it actually do anything?

Ok Guys, welcome back.. not going to lie, this video again may seem boring to some people, little action - but today we try the "free mod" aka removing the snowgrate filter inside the airbox.. will it make a difference though?

.. i would also like to see the s3 draggy times with all the hardware bolt-on mods strapped on ..and then again with a tune + hardware mods ..it will very interesting to see the differences hardware makes compared to stock parts .

5:11 There is still an open gap there leading air to the engine bay, on the left side. You can buy a OEM part which blocks it. Its 5Q0 129 849. By placing that part it lowers the IAT with about 30%, at least from what I have seen in my logs.

It helps lower the engine bay temperature, do you think engineers are dumb? It gets all the cold air it needs from the front of the car, one opening for the intake, the one you refer to for the engine bay. No need to block anything.

@@chiquicat1 I never said the engineers are dumb. Placing that part there lowers the IAT, which is more important (for a little bit better performance). I have done some testing. The engine bay gets barely any hotter. Bare in mind, there is still a huge opening in front of the car. A small hole which is blocked wont make the engine overheat or whatever. Also, there is no reason to have an open duct there, at least in my case. There is literaly nothing behind it which needs to be cooled. So why would I keep it unblocked if I can gain some power by placing an cheap OEM part? When you change the airbox etc. for a R600 for example, you get a different housing with no duct there. With all the MQB airbox mods, you can get similar results.

With U.S. models there's a backing plate you can buy for the passenger side of the intake grille and cut the drivers front side out like you talked about, replace the filter with a k&n filter and remove the snow guard. You'll definitely see an improvement in breathing and how the car runs 🐙 👍

I don't think it's as much about power as it is about getting more air available to the intake to improve the quality of fuel burn. Not worth it on a stock car, but if you're looking to do a stage 1 tune then it's worth doing beforehand: Replace the OEM tray filter with something a bit better (e.g. K&N) Cut out the area you showed in the air scoop opposite the airbox snorkel Add VAG part #5Q0129849 to blank off the vent hole you showed by the engine. This will force all cool air available from the air scoop to go towards the airbox + prevent the airbox from potentially syphoning warm air out of the engine bay when getting up in the rev range. You can also easily remove that front plastic trim that sits behind the front grill to get more of a ram-air effect. Probably not worth it for the increase in dirt and debris you'd get.

What about a custom air filter? It would increase the airflow a bit better that the paper filter. When I put mine in i did notice a slight difference.

It would make some noise difference, but to be honest these cars are really well designed at stock - the engine will only request the air it needs, having an upgraded filter isn’t going to increase power - but once you get in to the realms of Stage 2 and above then an upgraded filter or intake would start seeing you gains

The car is Stage 3 now, it has a full Forge carbon intake with a cotton filter

I removed the snow grill in the airbox and opened the closed part on my 2.0TDI. It made a slight difference in throttle response. Dont expect alot from it though. Maybe there will be a bigger difference if you also block the gap on the left side at 5:11 with the part number 5Q0 129 849. And last but not least, mount a airbox-turbo silicone pipe.

No - it’s has a JB4 on it at the moment running around 360-370hp

Yes - full spec is; Forge front mount intercooler Scorpion decat downpipe Forge turbo blanket Forge turbo muffler delete Forge large bore boost pipes. (Turbo -Intercooler - inlet) Forge carbon intake (full) Stage 2 custom remap & TCU remap
