Audi TT Mk1 - breakdown vlog Episode 2 - Electrics and sensors?

I thought I would share with you a real time breakdown experience in the Audi TT and how I dealt with and diagnosed a problem with a Mk1 Audi TT.
As we know the cars are mainly 20+ years old now so you are going to need to practice fault finding in an Audi TT Mk1.
My Audi TT refused to start and was experiencing car stalling.
In episode 1 I thought it was the fuel pump and swapped it out. That does not appear to be the case.
So my next theory due tot he symptoms is that it could be a faulty crankshaft position sensor and swapping it our on a 3.2 V6 was a bit of a mission.
Prior to this, I took a chance that the issue was so intermittent that I could make it to Simply Audi ok. 300 mile journey!
We also tried swapping the relays around and I even thought it might be the immobiliser.
We checked it with my OBD reader and VCDS but no real evidence. VCDS at one point did point to the crankshaft position sensor though.

Good video. My last tt had a similar rev counter issue for a few seconds. I never gave it a second thought once running. Good to know when I buy my next TT.

Good to see you got it fixed, there is so little KZfaq content on trouble shooting and fixing problems on the 3.2. I'm doing both my pre-cat O2 sensors at the moment!😊

You're right fuel pump won't kick in if up to pressure. Hopefully fixed 😬

Yes you are right. The pressure was up but it still makes me nervous when the pump is silent! Thanks for your comment and well wishes!

Hey Andy, been following you for some time having bought and currently restoring a Mk1 180bhp TT and I was under the impression these German cars were bulletproof 😂 everything but - but am pleased I’m not the only one fixing mine everytime there’s a week in the month! Si

Haha! You are right they are far from bulletproof. However, we must remember they are 20 years old so are going to need some TLC! Thanks for the support for the channel it is much appreciated! 👍

Glad the problem seems to be sorted, although it will be a while and a lot of miles before you're fully sure. Just one thing. You said the MPG was bad on the V6. After leaving Simply Audi, I ran down to Weymouth for a few hours before heading home. I'd filled the tank a couple of days before, and when I got home I'd done just over 300 miles with a 1/4 tank left. With 13.6 gallon tank, that should give a range of about 400 miles, or around 28 MPG, not too bad for 20 year old technology with a big heavy lump up front !

Hi Jeff. Yes, I have to say, the MPG was going well on that journey. I had completed 250 miles that day when it finally gave up and I had half a tank of fuel left! So it was pretty pleased with that, if not the breakdown!
