Hot tip: Add a piece of copper tubing to the end of your fill hose. You can bend the copper tube into a bit of a hook and then it won't fall out while filling.

B8.5 S4 with sport diff people, there are two fill and two drain plugs. They should be 5mm Allen bolts. The passenger side is stamped with the Audi emblem and is 75w-90. Standard drain and fill. The driver side says “ATF” on the case. This uses the transfer fluid. You can drain and fill and go into VCDS and go to AWD and active “pressurize fill lines” to make sure all the fluid is in the lines and where it should be.

I just changed the rear on my 2018 A6 last week. I filled it with Valvoline synthetic 75W90 in the flex bag, which doesn't require a pump. The odo is only at about 60K and the oil looked like new, so I didn't bother changing the front differential. I also did a drain & fill on the transmission. The shifting was always impressive, but it's even smoother now. I used Valvoline Maxlife Multi-Vehicle ATF for it.

I read somewhere the front one is the important one because it's with the transmission and gets a lot of heat.

I just changed front, rear and transfer case fluids. Front and transfer case fluids were much more darker than rear differential fluid. I confirmed with mechanic that front and transfer case working harder than rear.

Great content, as always! Looking fwd to the front diff fluid DIY. Do you have the sport diff? I saw the ECS Tuning video and they pointed out there were two different fluids used. Wondering what the difference is.

Just curious, is this the first time the fluids been changed? If so what does Audi recommend or do they tell people not to change it

I dd this on my car a while back and I remember there was crush washer to change. Did yours not have one?

Nope. No crush washer at all

Now that I think about it I think it was the front differential that had a seal on the drain plug not a crush washer

Audi claims it's a lifetime fluid, so I'd probably do it every 50k just to be routine. That's just a guess though.
