Audio Technica AT-LP120XUSB-BZ (bronze finish) unboxing and detailed setup video.
First sorry for the improper terminology on a few of the parts, still trying to learn the proper names myself!!
How to carefully open the box, assemble the turntable, and balance the tone arm. Putting on the dust cover was by far the most simple step, the grooves will help you to easily distinguish how it goes in. I also highly recommend to be slow and careful with removing the TT and the pieces out of it's packaging, using scissors to cut the tape rather than tearing it off will be a much safer route to prevent any potential damage to your cartridge.

@@Mr.HotRod This is a great idea and I may make a new video in the near future. It's quite easy connecting it to a speaker or amp, everything is labelled on the back. Connecting to Sonos took some trial and error but once I figured it out I laughed at how easy the process is.

Hey guys, I just wanted to share a small tip that I just recently discovered; The manual states 2 grams for the tone arm weight which was what I've been using for the last 3 months (2.03g). Everything was perfect until I started collecting records that were in more used conditions. The records with damage in the grooves (1 record even brand new and came scratched) will have a tendency to skip at a certain part of the record. Light scratches it only happened once or twice, but the heavily used records, some of them will skip every single time at the exact same part of the song. THE FIX ____________ Increasing the tonearm weight to 2.25 -2.40 completely eliminated the skipping on the records I was experiencing it with. I'm sure even 2.50 - 2.60 would still be good and not damage your records, but I spent some time experimenting the limits of how light I can go, and 2.20 - 2.25 was definitely the sweet spot , I'd say closer to 2.25. If you're experiencing any skipping, I would recommend increasing your tonearm weight by increments of 0.10 and keep going until you find the sweet spot. If you don't have a tonearm scale, no worries, the tonearm weight has small lines in-between the numbers that indicate .10 decimal. Just gently increase it 1 notch at a time and re play your record to see if you're getting any skipping. Use a heavily used record with clear scratches for the best results. Hope this helps and ask away if you guys need help with this or anything else :)

Make sure your cartridge alignment is good too. This will effect the angle the stylus rides in the groove. If you've got some worn records perhaps get a cart that will track them better and keep the better one for your newer records.

I've got a separate cart for 78s (3.0 mil tip), a cart for mono records (stereo really only came out in 1970 so all your 45s are pretty much mono until then and need a different cart to track them properly), and then another one (usually elliptical, but there are other shapes to play with too) for all those other records, used and new, that will track according to their needs. Have fun.

Sorry, increasing VTF is not the proper fix! People have tendency to set antiskating as high as VTF, so 2 for VTF and same 2 for antiskating, which is wrong! I use a test record to set antiskating and according to the track test antiskating ended up at 1 for VTF of 2 grams! Everything plays awesome! 😉

Thanks Rob, it was my first setup video, I saw many other tutorials that were leaving important details out to prevent any potential damage to the cartridge. I just swapped out the felt mat for the hudson hifi acrylic and it made a massive difference in bass, and completely cut out any static. Highly recommend it, I couldn't believe the sound difference that a simple $20 platter mat can do.
@joshs3905
@joshs3905 Жыл бұрын
@@DaveD2000 I don't blame you lol, I was debating between rubber or acrylic for a few days. I was nervous about going acrylic but I don't regret a thing now. The platter mat literally glows with any lighting on it, and when you sit far away you can see the edge of the platter mat glowing as well and it's very nice for seeing how the flutter is. I read reviews about the sound making a difference and didn't think it was true, very shocked when I heard a difference in bass and clarity. It almost completely eliminated static, made the bass sound a little tighter and clear, and cleared up the mids slightly. No records slipping either which was a big surprise. Either rubber or acrylic is mint though

As somebody in a record shop who sets up record players all the time I don't even bother with balancing anymore I use a scale and just set it to whatever the manual says that it needs to be set at so if it's 2 g then I put the needle on the stylus scale on the tonearm, and then set it to where it says 2 g saves a lot of time, and if I set the stylus arm to the zero for the shits and giggles, it will balance perfectly every single time

Oh man, I am glad I found a recent video of someone who has just bought this record player. I will watch you video and come back to you as I have heard good things about this but and still not 100 percent sure… I hope that you have had positive thing s to say about the record player!

Hey Rich, I hope this video will be of help to you in making your decision. I think it's a fantastic turntable for the price, especially if you can snag one while it's on sale. The previous generation had a few features that were more ideal for DJ'ing like the rewind feature and the Tonearm height adjustment. This new model seems to be steered more towards average listening and still keeps the whole "DJ turntable look". So far with 4 months of owning it, I've got nothing but good things to say, sounds great and is very easy to maintain and make adjustments to.

@@joshs3905 Thanks for the swift reply. Did you change the stylus and if so, what would you recommend. I was a deejay in the past and had two Technics SL 1200s with Stanton cartridges and stylus which I swore by. The company stopped making them years ago hence my asking. I just want to play my vast vinyl collection but also copy it and I need a worthy stylus… I had heard the one on this deck is regular but not the best…

@@richmck007 I haven't changed the stylus and I think it sounds great. I've only owned cheaper turntables in the past so this was a big step up. I wouldn't call myself an audiophile but I have been playing guitar for over 15 years and drums just over 5, so I definitely have standards on good quality and this turntable met them. I have not personally done it yet but I know you can burn records to a digital format which is really cool

Very nicely explained the set up ,specially the most crucial one of the first dial with numbers and positioning it to zero and with the help of the last dial taking it upto 2 grams and then with the help of pressure gauge confirming it to the correct weight . The horizontal levelling was also very important and that sets up the very basic set up . What is that hudson acrylic mat, where it is available,pl do inform . Thank you for reading .

It also made my turntable look really nice in my opinion, I got it in yellow and it compliments the bronze nicely. Before you position a tonearm, you must adjust the feet until the turntable is perfectly level. Using a bubble level position at the center of the turntable is best. Only then can you rely on a scale and counterweight to be accuratw

I have the same model as on video . I did balanced the arm according to the manual , as well as level on the player , which was not mentioned on the video . Unfortunately after a few playing of records , suddenly the " stylus " get damage and loose it's needle . Ones the record went to the end the arm doesn't return automatically up but is still rotating . And I believe this could be a reason that the needle just gone . Is there any way to prevent the damage of the " stylus " or how to improve the player for not this happen ? It should last much longer when playing a few records ?
@joshs3905
@joshs3905 Жыл бұрын
Hey there, so there are a few things I want to point out; First is that this turntable does not have automatic start/stop - meaning the arm will not lift by itself when it reaches the end of the record, and will continue to spin until you manually stop it. For the stylus being damaged, I think that it may have just been an unlucky bad pick from the bunch. Turntables are fragile and there's no saying if boxes fall or are being handled rough at the stores. The box will only protect it so much but it won't stop all the damage. My first step would be to exchange the turntable if that is possible, if not possible then my 2nd step would be to check the force of grams from the arm and if it reads correctly, I would just replace the cartridge (with the needle included) - If you don't have a scale I highly recommend it.

@joshs3905
@joshs3905 Жыл бұрын
yes it should come aligned. You can print a scale off of the turntables manual online, and you can double check to see that it's straight. The youtube video may seem confusing at first but it's actually quite fast and easy. I double checked mine just to be sure and it was straight, didn't have to make any adjustments

@joshs3905 9 ай бұрын
Damn I'm sorry you're experiencing that. I don't think that's normal if I can take a wild guess. If you purchased it from a retailer I'd exchange it asap, I never experienced any burnt smells or any sounds with the spinning. My guess would be that there's either something rubbing against another part causing friction which is causing the sounds and the smell, or that the motor on the inside isn't running properly and may be overheating; but if I can guess it would be the parts rubbing together. did you purchase it new?

@joshs3905

No not a dumb question at all, the speakers I'm currently using are a Sonos setup and they actually work very well. Nice thing with Sonos is that after you go through the setup on your phone, it's one of the easiest systems to operate. I can change the volume and pair up speakers on the spot from my phone. If you go Sonos, I'd recommend either 2 Play 5's paired together, or you can even do 1 Play 5 and 2 Play1's. But the 2 play 5's will probably be your best bet. The more traditional method is to connect 2 bookshelf speakers via the RCA jacks, I'm sure you can find decent ones for a good price. But me personally I went the Sonos route and it has been great. Very fuss-free, the only pain is when you change internet and have to set up everything again.

This TT doesn't have Bluetooth unfortunately. Check out the Anker Soundsync A3352 Bluetooth Receiver, from my knowledge it will pair nicely with that soundcore. Sonos is nice because it only needs 1 direct AUX connection, and you can add on as many more speakers as you like that will work as a bluetooth junction with one another. Cheers!

Hey there yes that's perfectly fine, I bring mine up to 2.25/2.30 when certain records have a tendency to skip. You can 100% use it for new records as well. If it's bothering you try rebalancing the entire arm, the closer you can get it to the middle float position the more accurate you'll get 2.00g. But 2.12 is not serious at all I wouldn't even bother

Hey Dale, the counterweight shouldn't lock itself unless it could have maybe been put on backwards? There's 2 parts to the counterweight the front dial and the counterweight itself. I can't think of any reason as to why the counterweight would be stuck like that, maybe giving it a good twist may loosen it up for you but try to be gentle with it. You can always post a picture using PicBun or Flickr and include the link, it will definitely help to give me a better idea of what you're dealing with. Hopefully it's a quick and easy fix!

From my knowledge I don't think there are many high-end turntables that have that feature. Maybe keep shopping around till you find one that checks off all the boxes? Personally I never cared for the auto stop unless I am doing something away from the TT or if I'm letting someone inexperienced use it while I'm not there. I'm almost certain that the 1 or 2 times you may leave it spinning, is not going to harm your record or the turntable, at the very least just wear out your needle faster, which can always be replaced/upgraded anyways. @@Skrenja It's a really nice deck and there's a bunch of upgrades you can do to it which makes the experience all more fun. If you're planning to pay full pop for this TT, I'd recommend checking out the Fluance RT 84 or RT 85. It's a really nice deck that prioritizes quality over features. The 84/85 are the fully upgraded versions, however the RT 82 and RT 83 are a lot cheaper and all of the things you get on the 84/85 can be upgraded in the future; you just pay less upfront by going with the better version right away.
