Great comparison video. I personally prefer the tone of the Mk1, It seems to have a more full bodied 'classic' synth tone. The low frequencies definitely seem more apparent in the Mk1. I love the coloured switch caps on the Dark Time, I could really use some of these for mine, it is sometimes difficult to decipher between the two flick switches for each step.

yes, the coloured caps are a great improvement for quick actions on front panel! :-) both Dark Energies have well defined personalities; maybe the MkI is more on steroids and the MkII is more "modern", but- you know - both can find a precise place in the mix

I like Mk2. Seems more versatile for what I'd like to do with a single osc synth.

If it's like that you can make it work perfectly for 1 bassline, it has both the sub and the mid part. Imagine what happens when you envelope both! :)

Oh crap should have bought a DE I before they went out of production. I thought the II might be 'slightly' different. Which isn't the case at all.

Caro Enrico Cosimi. Forse il mondo è davvero piccolo. Ma andiamo con calma... Sono entrato in possesso di una coppia di Doepfer (DT+DE) un anno fa e ormai mi ero rassegnato al fatto che il DE fosse diffettoso, che l ingresso MIDI non funzionasse. Almeno fino ad ora. Ora ho il dubbio. Non è che per caso si tratta proprio degli strumenti qui sopra perchè hanno gli stessi piedini colorati alla stessa maniera e che il DE sia stato modificato all interno come slave o come synth in cascata ? e poi venduto...o magari no. Ho questo problema con il DE che non riconosce nulla in MIDI IN nonostante il canale sia impostato giusto. Vabbe forse sbaglio io.

Oh, man, I'm really sorry I sold my mk1. The mk2 can't compete with it, really. The filter just sounds too different, to spikey. What I really miss about Dark Energy is its PWM. The best PWM I ever came across. Minibrute is currently my only monosynth and while it's really great the PWM can't come close to that of Dark Energy.

This is daft. It's a numeric, settings on the knobs comparison. Pointless as every analogue synth has components with slightly different tolerances and values. The MK2 also has a heater, the MK1 does not, so it will drift after turning on.

Its sad that mk1 is not for sale anymore, mk2 is just shit compared to mk1 if you ask me.
