Sort of, just be careful of what you can sacrifice to keep perusing success. I love Kelly and am a big fan but realised a couple of years ago the guy is a serious addict, seems to have endlessly kept perusing competition unnecessarily over personal/land life, remember an article where Kalani basically admitted to having to take a back seat to his surfing. Seems to have basically sacrificed creating a family for surfing.

@pete, actually it’s just the opposite! Like boxing once Pacquiao retired boxing has never been the same. KS11 is keeping the WSL alive. as this time. No one wants to watch pro surfing one Kelly retires. The WSL know this!!!
@petecabrina7 ай бұрын
@@Jay-ju9jw you are only proving my point, obsessing over the wsl, who really gives a sht about the wsl? I enjoy it sometimes but there are numerous reasons it is not that popular. You also seem obsessed with his fame and success, which was also my point, and what he has sacrificed for it, he clearly has issues with land life.

One of the best interviews of Mr. Slater I’ve ever seen. His dad treated him the same as mine did me, I was a national, state and city champion at different times. My dad never watched any of my contests. And only said he was proud of me once. It was tough life until that moment. Thank you Mr. Slater for teaching me so many valuable life lessons 🏄🏽♂️🏂🛹🏍️✝️👍🌅

The best interview of Kelly, it shows you how he can talk when not talking to crackheads haha. So cool how he speaks about Sunny and Rob, very gratefull for his friends that helped him shape his surfing. In the end we all help each other in the water to surf better.

Wow, Kelly! Thanks for all the inspiration over the years, you have influenced so many people that you may not be aware of. This interview was a genuine discussion, and I applaud you for your heartfelt and honesty. I really commend you for what you have gone through, always being under the microscope , and delivering it the best through the circumstances of being an underdog from the East Coast USA. You are an inspiration and your personal drive has been a great influence for many people.

Kelly is a great representative of the sport of surfing, he will always be the GOAT ! He should actually have 12 World Titles he got robbed that one year when he had to win the last Pipe contest to win the title and the WSL juiced Mick Fanning in the heat against Yadin Nicol which made him World Champ alot of people thought he lost that heat. And then Kelly went on to win the contest beating John John in the final in pumping 6-8 ft Pipe
@ryanroberts92107 ай бұрын
So true. There is no way Mick should have been given the score he got to move on. I believe the judges were worried if slater won number 12 he would have retired and there are a lot of us that will stop watching the contests because he isn’t surfing in them.

I remember in the 90's, Kelly was at Rainbow Bay, and we were all out surfing one day and he was staying at the Greenmount Resort. My sister became friends with him, and we went over to his place once and watched a Western tv show of some kind. Next day I was out at Greenmount one day with my sister surfing, I had a CI swallowtail that Al shaped for me. It was glassed with a 6oz and 4oz deck. I was walking up the beach, and Kelly asked: "How do you like that board?" I said, " Ahh, it's a bit heavy, with a 6 & 4oz deck. " His response, which I will never forget... "Then you'll never know good the shape was." After that, I never got more than a double 4oz deck, or single 4oz with a 3/4 - 4oz patch. Simple words that stuck with me for the next 30 years.

Pretty epic interview. Kelly is a class act... very heartfelt and emotional. But I do wish they showed some of his impossible DEEP Barrels that resulted in PERFECT 10's. Let the audience really see and understand how incredible of a surfer he is. Obviously they know he's the best but man, seeing how great of a barrel rider he is, where you're watching the wave and you're thinking, no way, no way, no way is he gonna make this barrel, he's so deep inside the wave you can't even see him for like seconds... and again, you're like yeah see, I knew he wasn't gonna make that... Then another second or two later he comes flying out of an impossible barrel. Like he said, he does the IMPOSSIBLE.

Must have been around 2016 because they reference Surf Ranch as being in a "top secret location", and that was first revealed in December of that year, plus they also reference "your new brand Outerknown". I remember seeing the comments in tracks after Kelly's 92 and 94 wins absolutely slagging him off because the hangover from the Oz vs seppo thing that occy helped create with his battle with Tom curren. The Ozzie's went quite after 94 and when Kelly got that mutant pipe one that foamballed on black and white.

48:05> He may have missed the way to enjoy all the things he spoke about here. not to late for him to get religious ,or may i put it another way in the verses below John 14:6 New International Version 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. < True Religion not the religion that is meaningless and has no foundation whatsoever that most think is religion but is not eg The Pope, Islam, John Chapter 10 The Bible 9 I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full. A Magnificent man has lived an extraordinary life but if he does not find the truth ( The creator is Jesus who made the waves for him to ride) He will leave this world and lose the life he sought to gain same for all of us Believe Jesus words and eternal life can be yours if you ask for it from him. Hope he finds the truth before it's to late for him.
