I was there for his 20 strikeout game vs the Tigers. It was at the old Tiger Stadium. It was a chilly night, maybe 5,000 people were there. I was 15, and a pitcher on my travel baseball team. I'll always regret not getting his autograph that night. Another notable thing about that night was we got to see Nomar Garciaparra playing in that game as a September call up.

April 29th 1986 I was at that game in Fenway Park when Rocket became the first MLB pitcher in history to strike out 20 batters in a nine inning game, like the game in Detroit it was a cool night, not a good night for hitters, Clemens was just mowing down every Seattle batter that came up to the plate, the only run Seattle got was on a home run by Gorman Thomas which shocked me because while being a power hitter, Thomas wasn't a good hitter as far as averages because it would have been a shutout for Clemens if not for that home run. I'll always remember how hard he was throwing that night, it was a sight to see, Clemens was throwing heat the whole game just totally dominated and that was a really good Red Sox team that year making it to the world series but losing to the Mets in 7, Sox came so close to winning it but came up short and on that team was Dave Henderson who hit that now famous home run in the ninth inning in the playoffs against California and he was on that Seattle team when Clemens struck out 20, I wanna say Clemens struck him out 3 time's that night, what a great game to have witnessed that night and even though they (Sox) didn't win the world series still had a great year

@Gregory-sm9pf Clemens was part of, and the starting pitcher in (no decisions that he pitched really well in) two of the most historic, heartbreaking World Series loses in recent MLB history. Game 6, 1986 WS vs. the Mets. Game 7, 2001 WS vs. AZ.

@@dukedematteo1995 you put WS, wrong color Sox, LoL! I know it's a mistake but that world series in 86 has so many stories to it that are very interesting, and there's one that involves Clemens and McNamara and one of them is lying his ass off
@dukedematteo1995
@dukedematteo1995 3 ай бұрын
@Gregory-sm9pf lol WS as in World Series. As for the McNamara - Clemens story. I've watched it, and it really doesn't seem like Clemens thought he was coming out of the game since he had a helmet on by the bat rack before he was pinch hit for. To me, that either means Clemens didn't ask out of the game, or he said something, possibly bitching about the blister,( but in his mind wasn't asking to get out of there) but Mac took it to mean that and dissapointly obliged. What is really crazy is how poorly McNamara and his family have taken that whole incident. On the day he passed away a few years ago, his family was still bitching about this crap. Whining how Boston media took Clemens side...blah blah blah....get over it dude.

Joe Buck is top of the line. He's great and has a totally natural way of speaking to these sports stars without kissing their butts or getting snarky and argumentative. I like him on NFL broadcast cause he and Aikman don't get over analytical like the others which ruin the ambiance of the football game. I think he takes a little que from the great Vin Scully in knowing when to shut up and let the moment of sport speak for itself. His Dad was a world class broadcaster as well so no doubt it runs in his blood.👍💯

Vin Scully was as dry as wallboard in his delivery. Joe Buck would do better to take after his dad because Jack Buck was one of the greatest sports announcers of all time. Luckily for us, the apple did not fall far from the tree. Joe Buck is fabulous, too.

@@SoLaRe60 the magic and poetry and storytelling ability of Vin Scully is lost on you. His delivery is mellifluous and music to the people of Los Angeles ears. At 7 o'clock on summer evening in LA the words " It's time for Dodger baseball. And a very pleasant good evening to you ladies and gentlemen" was the greatest set up line in the history of sport. Probably the greatest moment in sports called by Vin was Kirk Gibson's walk off HR. " In the year of the improbable the impossible has just happened." And then Vin didn't blab like most announcers he just stayed silent and let history unfold. The man was sheer genius. His understanding of the game was immense. And the stories he came up with from current times to the 50s and 60s made you feel like a little kid listening to a master storyteller. The man was a genius and introduced baseball and its lore to millions and millions of Southern Californians.

Roger, Words don't describe the power pitcher that you are. You are my favorite starting pitcher Of All Time and "the standard" as a way to compare any starter to - as far or however high anyone wants to set the bar = you are at the the top. Your style and pitching form are 2nd to none as you and Andy Pettite are one in the same & at the top of my list. Your style, pitching form & delivery are not the only reasons why you're the greatest; in that your grit, attitude, & will to win all have been over the top since your 1st start on the hill in Bean town. Congratulations on all your historical achievements that you seemed to be on the road to accomplish when you started your career. Hell of a pitcher, tremendous competitor and yet I still don't believe him when he tries to convince people he was clean. When you're that good for that long in Boston and age starts to catchup to you and you realize my best days are likely behind you, you turn to the fountain of youth and I believe that's what he did. Power pitchers in their mid 30's don't improve with age but he did. I can't help but believe he dipped into modern chemistry to get there.

Like everyone else I've found myself having preconceived notions about someone's character and demeanor. With people I've never met or talked to. Especially with actors and athletes. I felt that Roger Clemens was just your normal spoiled arrogant athlete who had little or no regards for fand. Only to find out how wrong I was. We have a single A baseball team affiliated with the Astros where I live. Clemens has a son who played catcher for a year with this team. One time Clemens came with his brother n law came to watch his son play. He wanted to play a round of golf at a course close to the airport. I coincidentally belong to a county club that is maybe five minutes from the airport. Clemens and his brother n law played a round with one of our 50:03 assistant golf pros and another member. Word quickly spread Clemens was playing at our club. Members would go over to the tee or green to get his autograph. Clemens would wait until he greeted or gave an autograph to everyone who came over. After his round was over he stood in front of the pro shop signing autographs and speaking with everyone. This was for a good hour until Clemens brother n law told him they had to leave because their private jet was about ready to be cleared for take off. Everyone he came in to contact with raved what a great guy he was. And in awe how friendly and patient he was. He sincerely showed what a stand up guy he was. If I had a vote l would vote him to enter the HOF in a second

Nobody talks about his run he had on the Red Sox where he was clearly his best. He had a few other comparable season in Toronto but I don’t get why people affiliate him with NYY and HOU the most. A shell of himself imo compared to those early years. Should’ve three peated the Cy Young from 90-92. 86 was a crazy good year too

Generational thing. I was born in 94’ in Boston area and Roger was a Yankee to my generation. Most people affiliate him with Astros and Yankees because they are my age I guess. Pedro filled that role when Roger left but being able to watch Pedro vs Clemens games with my dad are memories I’ll always have. Roger’s last start at Fenway in the 2003 regular season where he got a standing ovation exiting the game and then he came out to acknowledge the crowd was a great moment. The two greatest Red Sox pitchers of all time facing each other in game 7 ALCS 2003 at Yankee Stadium that year was historic

Roger Clemens is arguably the best right handed pitcher to ever play baseball. How David Ortiz is in the hall of fame, but not Roger Clemens is a joke. Clemens has the most Cy Young awards in baseball history (7), he's a all-time great pitcher. He was awesome as a Yankee, and we appreciated him.

Clemens and schilling are in the same boat, both great pitchers, to me it's not the hall of very good, it's the hall of Fame, I doubt Clemens was on anything when he struck out 20 in 1986, guy was great

I don't like how they immediately skipped his two best years in Toronto. Kind of annoying how they dismiss the interworkings how he had his two best years ever.

I watched Clemens pitch in the College World series at Rosenblat stadium in Omaha Neb when UT won the college world series. I also saw Clemens pitch for the Red Sox a few years later. It really opened my eyes as to how far an elite college grade pitcher has to climb to be an elite MLB pitcher.

The thumbnail pics for these interviews are usually pretty funny because of the contrasting head shapes so close together…Joe Buck has a narrow head with an extra long forehead, and his guests often seem to have a big, fat round head (Roger Clemens, Pete Rose and Mike Singletary, to name just a few).
Super sport🤯
