I like how one episode is with a government minister, and then another episode is with a fortune teller

If you take away the numbers, its just speculating characteristics. Someone with good EQ can do the same job. It's still pretty much barnum statement because out of 100 things, they get you to narrow down to only 1 thing that is somewhat accurate and the other 99 inaccurate. No difference from giving a friendly calculated advice, without the lies of fitting you into a specific number. Numerology, Horoscopes and tarot reading etc, is pretty much just EQ made simplified. Sadly the average person rarely changes its habits so most predictions seem to be true and reliable with a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Agree! EQ! Facts are boring. Good story telling captures attention and inspires. Thus, weaving advises into stories, giving it that mystical feeling triggers chemical releases in the brain. Just like why many people choose to ignore fact, and rather listen to someone with story. Because feelings.

In summary, its just cold reading techniques and self fulfilling prophecy

I agree with your comment for the most part, especially ‘if you take away the numbers, it’s just SPECULATING characteristics’, that someone with good EQ could probably do a similar job & this is similar to giving calculated advice. I myself believe in horoscope (not that I study it/ am a fanatic though). I know many non-believers when it comes to horoscope. They always say it’s all BS & the readings are always general so they could be applied to anyone & still come across as somewhat accurate. Otherwise, they would say the readings are 99% inaccurate but believers will only focus on the 1% that’s accurate. My response to these comments is always “Horoscope is not exactly BS, based on my understanding I won’t go so far to say that it’s science (it might jolly well be science but before I study it I won’t claim that) but there is some kind of statistical observation behind it & so far based on my own observation of people around me from various horoscopes it proves to me that there is quite some truth in horoscope readings. Yes, my sample size maybe small (e.g. I only know 2-5 people of a particular horoscope well & I also don’t know people from all the 12 horoscope signs) but enough to see some common personality traits amongst people of a particular horoscope sign that are drastically different from people of another horoscope sign. Also, I do not think the world should/ could be over-simplified & horoscope alone cannot determine how someone thinks & behaves, things like how a person was brought up & his personal experiences as he grows up all come together to play a part in shaping a person into who he becomes. That is why no two person of the same horoscope is identical, but I would say given very similar childhood, socio-economic standing & life experiences, people who share the same horoscope would tend to share similar mindset on certain issues & share similar reactions to certain situations. People are also multi-faceted, a person who is supposed to be stubborn “based on his horoscope” could actually be stubborn at work but not in relationships, which is why there’s the concept of “houses” under horoscope if you do study it. So be open-minded & don’t jump straight into rejecting the idea that there may be some valuable truth in something that’s a bit unorthodox.” Having said that, I will stress I am not trying to claim horoscope as science, as least not at my current stage of understanding of it. I think it’s very dangerous to just claim something as science because there is some statistical observation tied to it or in the case of numerology because there are numbers involved. If Joanna can prove that besides the involvement of digits, the readings are based on scientific experiments (a hypothesis, a control, a conclusion that won’t change no matter how many times the same experiment is repeated then it’s science), nothing to argue. But before that happens, you may say non-believers are close-minded but it’s not exactly right to claim that numerology is science. From what I see, it’s pseudoscience. I am actually interested in numerology readings too, I feel like just like psychology it could be very helpful to one’s life. Psychology may be more helpful because when you meet a good practitioner, you will realise very clearly why certain bad things happened in your life & you have very actionable solutions. Numerology, lets be honest, is very much vague but still it could be a helpful guide to help understand someone & your relationship with that person. So don’t just reject it, no harm actually having some thought over a reading but practitioners should also avoid labelling it as science without properly showing how it’s since then calling non-believers close-minded. Also, even if the person who came up with some mathematics theory did come up with numerology it doesn’t automatically mean numerology is science & that if you reject numerology is science then mathematics should be non-science/ even witchcraft too by association. Just saying this removes a lot of credibility from the lady because where is the logic in that? I cannot come up with better analogies but it’s somewhat similar to saying “this person is a fine dining restaurant chef so every dish that he concocts, even just a casual homely dish that he created on the fly, should be deemed to be fine dining quality”. Or “this person is a science lecturer so whatever he says/ believes in should be based on science, he is religious so religion is therefore science”. This is not helping her with the skeptics at all. Lastly, not everyone with a high EQ can do jobs like numerologist/ tarot reader well but I would say highly sensitive people & those who bother to put in the time & effort to listen, understand & remember things about others would be able to come to come to similar conclusions. So in my personal opinion it’s more EQ than science or equal parts of both.

Could there be a chance that the number readings that you give do not accurately reflect the person's characteristics? It seems like we are trying to box people into a slew of attributes based on their birthdays. If we think about it, when a person is born hinges on when their folks have sex n when the mum delivers.. moreover not everyone born on the same day that ends up with the same number, behaves the same way.

It's just a self fulfilling prophecy.. my birthdate is also 3 (1+2) same as Denise.. However I'm not creative, and I prefer clearly defined regiments and structures (as opposed to what Joanna said about 3 being curly whirly and being creative).

My POV after watching the ep is that numerology is like a little like MBTI, Love Language test. It's there to help you understand and work better with others and your inner self. Just that the grouping and categorisation help with connectivity and relatability to those traits or personalities. But the interesting part is all calculated from your birth and name (since the day you materialised and started having to interact w ppl) Really enjoyed the content!

Interestingly enough, the calculation is based on an actual mathematical method called - the Vortex Math! Although it is calculated slightly different from Joanna, it uses pretty much the same methodology on a simplified level of gathering birth dates

I noticed the generation now....im not sure gen z or what, like 20 - 30 ish people. They really like to believe on reading people characters by birthdays/palms/looks. I find it very silly to judge it this way because trust me. They are ppl who hides behind their skin. And they are also talents who cant be seen immediately. Only time can tell............not all these....

wow I have the same birthday as Denise, our last 2 year digits are swapped tho, she's young! there is so much doubt on everyone's face but interesting episode nonetheless! personally I think the framework is too generic and knowing how 2 person can have the same birth date but yet so different, I am skeptical by nature, oh well.

The Catholic Church recognises that the practicing of divination is a sin, because it prevents one from finding recourse in God’s providence and to love God as He created us to be (Deu18:10-12, Ex 32). Hence, seeking divination is seeking to be God without God; seeking idols or self as God. The teaching of the Church is not mistaken, but since the beginning of the fall, the people of God have always wanted to compartmentalise God to fit one’s lifestyle. In our contemporary world, it is common for Catholics to confine our acknowledgement of God to an Eucharistic celebration and live our ways and days without the presence of God in our lives. Lest we forget, if the omnipresent God can be contained, we are our religion and gods. Is numerology a practice of divination? If it assumes the role of God in your journey of seeking recourse in life, yes. If not for recourse, then why did you do numerology in the first place?
