Correction: @ 2:53 - you have to plug in the unrounded x in to the either equation to get the y-value. The correct answer will be 1647. @ 3:33 - The question is meant to say "recycled PAPER is what % higher than recycled ALUMINUM". We could plug in the two inequalities In Desmos and look at the intersection point, which is the solution, and just take the y-value and round it to the nearest integer; that would save a lot of time : ) Though this is not applicable for US students as the test isn't digital for them yet.

Is the wording of the second problem correct? There is less aluminum than paper, so aluminum cannot be a percentage greater than paper. Thanks! Your videos are super helpful!

I think he did the last question completely wrong Reason: They asked for the point where y=0 So we just needed to plug in 0 instead of y in the equation of circle to get the answer The answer for x is 14.47 or 5.52 This is my view. Please correct if wrong

ya that what i got too, i dont think it said in the circle so the only ones i considered were the ones on the circle, but if we consider inside the circle as well couldnt we have just said 10 with out much calculation?

It's a circle, and it asks for (x,0). You're technically all right. It is any point in between 5.528 and 14.472.

the problem with this question is that it does not specify whether it should be an integer value or not. It also is very vague on whether it is inside or ON the circle. but yea, anywhere between 5.52 and 14.47 is right, if we are assuming it is inclusive and if it is not an integer

the aluminum recycled is actually LESS than the paper recyc. Do you mean to ask "what percentage was number of tons of recycled paper higher than alum? Please issue clarification on this because many students are confused.

@@user-qx1ir6bb7j Nah you get 13.5% if you are doing it too quickly and not paying attention ( even I made the same mistake ). The increase is 35% [ 1.35-1 = 0.35 ]. Hope that helps.

For question 10, if the amount of paper recycled was greater than the amount of aluminum recycled, than how can the question ask what percentage was the recycled aluminum higher?

Treat the question as if it's asking just that, he made a mistake when creating the question and must not have realized that the amount of recycled paper was higher. Hoep this helps!

For the last question, when it says the circle “contains the point (x,0), does that necessarily mean that the point must be inside the circle, or does that mean a point that is on the border of the circle (I.e. the infinite collection of points that makes up the circle).

it means that the point falls within the confines of the circle's circumference. Thats why its x coordinates MUST be less than the length of the radius.

The second question is writen wrong becuase its asking for how much bigger is aluminium than paper even though paper is way more and the number he gets at the end is just how much bigger the paper is

for the last question: are there any other answers that are acceptable besides 6? I'm asking since the question specifies "potential answers". the point on the circumference is 14.47 and I am not looking at the inside of the circle. is that answer acceptable?

x can be any integer from 6 to 14. It specifically states “contains” so the circumference point won’t be acceptable.

Now that I see the second question (Q10) was not worded correctly, was that question asked and worded incorrectly in the exam? If so, I wonder how was it scored. I was killing myself over that question :)

Exactly, the amount of recycled Aluminium is clearly lower than and can't be higher than the amount of Recycled paper, so I was a bit confused, I expected him to get a negative value😅

@JohnSAT In the first one you just found the highest possible value of x (m), where the question ask the highest possible value of n (y coordinate) which will be 4000/119

you got like every single question wrong... For the last one, it should be either 5.528 or 14.472. We plug 0 for y into the equation and solve for x. We aren't plugging it to an inequality since we already know that y = 0.

For the last one can't we just look at the points and realize that if the point is less than 6 away from (10,4) and we know that the Y is zero, then that means it's 4 down from the center so just subtract 10-4=6

doesn´t work, if y goes down 4, x doesnt necessarily need to go down 4, that´s a coincidence. You would need to use distance formula to determine X, if the line isnt straight u will get the question wrong

no. answers are 10 +/ sqrt(20). the youtuber did it wrong. the question states that (x,0) is a point, therefore, when we solve for x, we need to find the value of x when y=0. there is only two answers b/c only two x-intercepts.

@@AndrewLansford-ik1wvyou are incorrect, the original post is correct. It says inside the circle and intercepts are on the circle. 10 would be a valid (and the easiest) choice. 4-6=-2, so saying 10,0 is inside the circle makes perfect sense, as 10,-2 is ON the circle

On tghe last question, students are able to use a grraphing calculator on all the math so I graphed the circle and got two points that would work: (5.528,0) and (14.472,0)

Many of the answers to these questions are wrong. Do the problems, but I wouldn't trust the solutions.

" circle *contains* " is the key phrase here. Yeah, 5.528 and 14.472 are the x-intercepts of the circle. But we look for the point on the x-axis (or y=0) that lies within the circle. I'm not sure if 5.528 and 14.472 count too, but if they do, then the answer is 5.528 ≤ x ≤ 14.472. It could be 6, could be 11.5, 8.999, etc.

@@AndrewLansford-ik1wv Regardless, it doesn't matter. It simply asks for one point centered along the x-axis, which would be anything in between 6 and 14 as the x-intercepts are 5.528 and 14.472. You can actually graph the circle if you wish and see that it encompasses all points between 6-14. The circle's equation is: (x-10)^2+(y-4)^2

@@skyminewang6853 it says the point is specifically (x,0). we are solving for x. it asks for the value of x. when y=0, what could x be?? this means the y-value HAS to be 0. the circle has two x intercepts only. 6 is not one of them.

i feel like it'd depend on the sat- some years are harder than others, so it'd be pretty tough to predict. but as john said, if 10% of the questions are hard and there are 38 problems in the Calculator OK Section, i'd say around 3-4 (sorry if im late)
