There's a lot of smart lock options out there, and when we were in the market for one we decided to go with an August Lock. Was it the right decision??? Well, in this video we break down the pros and cons that we have found with the August Lock and whether you should get one!

I am wondering how well this lock works with older style doors and locks. I realize that is beyond your well done vid.

Thanks for commenting! I think you’d have to update the lock to a more standard current model for this. Such as Kwikset or Schlage. Yale on the other hand would work in place of any deadbolt hole. Or you could cut your own hole (we have a video on this).

loved the video! I have a question about the bridge. I run an airbnb in Tokyo and we have an apartment complex. we have 8 rooms and they all have different wifi. I assume that I just connect each one to the rooms specific wifi, but is it possible to have multiple bridges on one wifi?
@TheRenoBros

Yes, you can have multiple bridges on one wifi. Each bridge has its own unique device address (not sure the technical term), so when setting it up you just connect the specific bridge to the specific lock/keypad you want it to communicate with.

Great review . I am in the market as an Airbnb host. After watching I think I am going to make the August investment. Thx. Do you have a video on the WIFU version?

Thank you so much! I can definitely recommend using August or Yale locks for Airbnb hosting. They integrate so well! Do you mean a video on the Wi-Fi version? I’m not sure what the WIFU version is.

Hi 11 months later. I've got the same lock. my question is, after integrated with Airbnb I noticed it sends an automated message.... reminds guests of their Reservation. BUT in the message through the airbnb app there's no CODE? am i missing something... or is the code sent in a seperate message / email to guest?? any help appreciated..
@TheRenoBros
@TheRenoBros Жыл бұрын
Hi Rafael! Yes, that happens when there was an error with the connection between the lock and the Wi-Fi bridge at the time of the confirmed reservation. I’ve had that happen. What I do is have an automated message that says if they have issues entering the property, don’t hesitate to reach out to me. I always have a backup code that is always active so in case the lock loses connection with the Wi-Fi bridge, they still have an active code that I can give them if the original one doesn’t work. It is uncommon, so rarely do I have to deal with this circumstance, but having a plan makes it easier. What I’ve noticed is that sometimes guests unplug the Wi-Fi bridge to charge a device or something, and this causes the issue.

Another thing is to make sure you’re not just integrating with the smart lock, but ALSO with the keypad. You need to select both when integrating them.

@@TheRenoBros I noticed I had not enabled the keypad! That was my mistake. Thank you! I think this should start working now. After enabling the keypad is the code sent through that same automated message through the Airbnb app? Or do they get the code through a seperate email? Thanks for your replies, makes more sense
@TheRenoBros
@TheRenoBros Жыл бұрын
@@Rafaellasvegas The code gets sent through the same automated message, except you should see the code appear now. It does not get sent through an email, unless they have email notifications set up for every message they receive through the platform. For the guest that the code did not work for, you may have to set up one manually and send that.

@@TheRenoBros Thanks for those tips. I've set an emergency code, in case the code isn't sent. Thank you again!

this lock is compatible with Apple HomeKit? thank you!
@TheRenoBros
@TheRenoBros Жыл бұрын
Hi Gabriel, thanks for the question! Yes! The August smart locks are Apple HomeKit enabled. We’ve also done a video talking about Yale Smart Locks (owned by the same company as August), and they also have a line of Apple HomeKit enabled locks. Personally I prefer the look at feel of Yale locks over August. The keypad feels like a higher grade and looks more premium.

@@TheRenoBros thanks for answering. but, on this specific model, I couldn't find information anywhere. this specific model is really compatible with Apple HomeKit ?

Will you need to download the app if you are using just the lock pad?
@TheRenoBros
@TheRenoBros Жыл бұрын
As the owner, you need to download the app to set up your lock and keypad. Once it is set up, you’ll never use the app unless you need to create a new code or troubleshoot issues. Non-owner users do not need to download the app at all, unless they want to use the touchless features. Does that answer your question?

this lock has been a nightmare. After about a year the bridge started disconnecting from wifi. I went through troubleshooting with August support but no luck. they didn't have any fix fro it and it was not covered under warranty anymore. if you need a reliable lock i would not recommend it.

Hmm, two things to try. Definitely call your internet provider and ask if their having any issues in your area. Ours had an issue with the bridge recently, and I found out our internet provider was having issues. Also I know that with our place, we have a mesh network, and I found out the unit closest to the bridge was no longer connected and broadcasting the network. So I fixed that and it is now working again. I’ve also had a Wi-Fi bridge just completely die on me. I bought a new one for like $50

Although I have had a much better experience with Yale locks. Both brands owned by same company, so might not fix the bridge issue you’re having, but I like their locks a lot more now that I know about them!
