Hadelich is one of the great violinists of today and very much deserves an instrument like this. This beautiful violin is in excellent hands. I'm very happy for him!

Just last night, I had the great pleasure of hearing Augusitn play the Mendelssohn concerto with the Orchestra of St. Luke's at Carnegie Hall. The audience were simply enthralled, and gave the violinist a monumental standing ovation at the end.

Sehr geehrter Maestro Hadelich, Ich gratuliere Ihnen ganz herzlich, dass Sie diese wunderbare Instrument auf lange Zeit spielen dürfen. Henryk Szeryng war mir Mentor und Freund. Ich bin tief bewegt, dass seine geliebte Leduc nun wieder einen grossen Geiger gefunden hat, der sie auf höchster Ebene spielen wird. In Szeryngs Genfer Meinsterklassen in der 80er Jahren war folgendes immer ungeheuer beeindruckend. Sobald er in Genf ankam, gab Szeryng die Leduc immer dem hervorragenden örtlichen Geigenbauer Vidoudez zur jährlichen Generalüberholung und spielte dann zwei Wochen lang auf einer Vuillaume. Die arme Vuillaume war Szeryngs ungeheurer Tonkraft kaum gewachsen. Man hatte den Eindruck, sie werde gleich explodieren (etwa wenn er zeigte, wie man die grosse dreistimmige Durpassage in der Chaconne echt dreistimmig, also ohne jede Akkordbrechung, spielen kann). Dann endlich bekam er wieder seine Leduc. Der Unterschied war schockierend. Die Leduc nahm alles, was er ihr abforderte, mit grösster Leichtigkeit und vollkommener Mühelosigkeit auf und setzte es tonlich um. Es war fast so, als ob selbst ein Szeryng kaum 20 Prozent ihres tonlichen und farblichen Potentials mobilisieren konnte. Die Leduc schien ihm einen unendlichen und nicht auslotbaren gestalterischen Freiraum zu geben. So kam uns Studenten das jedenfalls vor. Ein unvergesslicher Eindruck! Wie empfinden Sie das? Feel privileged to have actually heard Henryk Szeryng showing us this instrument and playing it during an Australian tour while I worked for ABC Concerts many years ago!

Like Szeryng once said: the Leduc sounds not like a trumpet but more like human voice. Amazing instrument and i'm glad such a great musician gets to play with it.

Technically, the last time the Le Duc was heard in public was in 1994 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City celebrating Guarneri del Gesu's 250th anniversary. I was there. It was played and introduced for the first time as, "ex-Szeryng," by a Romanian, E. Sarbu. I am glad that it is, once again, being played (sans shoulder-rest; Bravo!).

Having heard him in Seattle play the Mendelssohn and being entirely enchanted, particularly with the second movement, I can hardly imagine how beautiful it will sound on this instrument. Maestro Hadelich has been a revelation to me over the past near-decade. This violin is truly in the very best of hands.

Augustin have toured in San Diego last 3 years or so. We have been lucky enough to have other greats as Joyce Yang, Hillary Hahn and Joshua Bell, but Hadelich remains my favorite. That Guarneri cannot be in better hands.

So Glad for you. Just as there are many levels to the humans with their skills, so there is a dizzying range of responsiveness and richness among fiddles. We are blessed in this time that so many gifted performers are able to share their artistry using these instruments. I played fiddle for six decades, and enjoyed my un-pedigreed fiddles immensely. Whatever their provenance, several had voices rich enough that in all the decades I never exhausted the exploration of their range. I hope you find this is true with your far greater mastery.

One of his first performances with the Leduc was the Paganini Concerto showcased in this video. Entire performance with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra will go down as one of the best recordings of this concerto. (And I believe he only had this instrument in his hands 3 or 4 months before this Jan 2020 performance....!!!!)

I still remember going to a couple of Henryk Szeryng concerts in Brisbane in the 1960s, when he played this violin - a sound to send shivers down your spine! It was on loan to him at the time, and he bought it in 1970. He also played his Stradivarius during the encores - a complete contrast in sound. Another wonderful Guarneri to listen to is the "Cannone", once owned by Paganini - I have a recording of Massimo Quarta playing Paganini's 6 Violin Concertos on this violin, and once you have heard these, any other version pales into insignificance!

I have personally heard him play on this violin in concert several times. The fact he is one of the greatest young violinists goes without saying. Speaking purely about the instrument, it becomes obvious fairly quickly that this is not a "normal" violin, even amongst the peers of other instruments by Stradivari and Del Gesu. The G and D strings are shockingly powerful in a way that is hard to describe. The opening of Brahms VC sounds almost like a foghorn. When he would play an open string on the G or D strings during an intense passage, I would almost laugh at how incredibly powerful, booming, and resonant the sound was. The unusually strong bass of this instrument can also be heard in recordings on youtube. A league of its own (both the player and the instrument).
